YEREVAN, MAY 9, NOYAN TAPAN. RA President Robert Kocharian sent a
message on the occasion of Day of Victory and Peace. The message read:

"Dear compatriots,

I warmly congratulate you on the occasion of Day of Victory and Peace.

Many Armenians had a considerable contribution in the victory in the
Great Patriotic War. The end of World War II and establishment of
peace had a decisive significance for Armenia creating new, wider
opportunities for prosperity and all-round development of our country.

Victory Day received a new meaning by liberation of Shoushi on May
9, 1992.

This dual holiday symbolizes the resolution and will of our people
to protect its dignity, security and right of free development.

We know the price of victories and peace. We see their bear fruits,
as well.

So, we are loyal to the principle of peaceful settlement of Nagorno
Karabakh problem. It should be based on the irreversible fact of
existence of Nagorno Karabakh Republic.

I congratulate you on the occasion of this great May holiday and 15th
anniversary of Shoushi liberation. I wish all of us peace, which will
give a possibility to promote a wider activity for the sake of the
homeland and to be worthy of our historic victories.

According to the report provided to Noyan Tapan from RA President’s
Press Office, by R. Kocharian’s decrees, on the occasion of 15th
anniversary of Shoushi liberation, 1760 servicemen and freedom-fighters
were awarded Combat Service Medal.
