ARMENIAN PRESIDENT, FOREIGN DIPLOMATS SATISFIED WITH ELECTION PROCESS

Yerevan, 4 May: Armenian President Robert Kocharyan yesterday [3 May]
met the heads of the diplomatic missions of the OSCE member states
represented in Armenia.
The presidential press service reported that the forthcoming
parliamentary election [on 12 May] and the electoral process were
the key issues discussed in the meeting. Kocharyan said that Armenia
has reached a crucial point – the election process has entered the
final stage. He reiterated the Armenian government’s determination to
conduct the election in line with international standards. He said
that the pre-election period goes quite calmly and in a civilized
manner, and pointed to the importance of the role of authorities
and political forces. Kocharyan asked the diplomats to express their
views and observations regarding the electoral process.
The diplomats said that the elections are a crucial step in Armenia’s
way to democratic development. They believe that a serious progress is
already seen in Armenia in terms of holding free and fair elections,
which is reflected in the observation mission’s reports.
They said that all the participants of the process have opportunities
to meet voters, present their viewpoints and use TV air time.
