Youth Pilgrimage to the Mother See of Holy Etchmiadzin

On Sunday, April 15, the administration and seminarians of the Gevorkian
Theological Seminary of Holy Etchmiadzin sponsored and organized a
pilgrimage for 220 students from eleven specialty schools, including
orphanages, Armenian Church Youth Centers and other institutions.

The young pilgrims first arrived at the Monastery of St. Hripsime in the
morning, where they participated in the Divine Liturgy celebrated by Rev.
Fr. Barouyr Avetisian.  Following church services, the young boys and girls
visited the other churches and monasteries in Vagharshapat, had lunch
together on the grounds of the Monastery of St. Gayane, and finally arrived
in the Mother See of Holy Etchmiadzin in the afternoon.

The older students were given a special tour of the Alex and Marie Manoogian
Treasury Museum on the grounds of the Mother See, where they viewed a wide
variety of exhibits including vestments, liturgical items and national and
ecclesiastical art.

At the end of the event-filled day, the young pilgrims were ushered into the
recital hall of the Seminary building, where they were treated to a concert
of folk music and songs performed by a youth choir.

“I should like to see any power of the world destroy this race, this small tribe of unimportant people, whose wars have all been fought and lost, whose structures have crumbled, literature is unread, music is unheard, and prayers are no more answered. Go ahead, destroy Armenia . See if you can do it. Send them into the desert without bread or water. Burn their homes and churches. Then see if they will not laugh, sing and pray again. For when two of them meet anywhere in the world, see if they will not create a New Armenia.” - WS
