FROM REPORTERS TO REPORTERS SOON TO PUBLISH IN ARMENIA

Starting April 2006, The British Council has been implementing a
project focused on the role of mass media in reporting government
affairs. The project aims to raise the capacities of mass media in
reporting on government issues and to cooperation between government
structures and the media. The project is a joint effort of the British
government and Yerevan office of UNDP. The same program is implemented
in Azerbaijan and Georgia.

Last July, some thirty reporters from Armenia, Azerbaijan and Georgia
participated in 10-days trainings in London. During the training, the
reporters learned about the experience of British colleagues. Armenia
participated with 10 reporters.

Several meetings were held with public officials, mass media outlets
to discuss issues of cooperation. A network between Armenian,
Azerbaijani and Georgian reporters is established to discuss project
outcome and share concerns. The participants published a manual titled
`From reporters to reporters.’ It will be published in Armenian and
Russian languages.

“I should like to see any power of the world destroy this race, this small tribe of unimportant people, whose wars have all been fought and lost, whose structures have crumbled, literature is unread, music is unheard, and prayers are no more answered. Go ahead, destroy Armenia . See if you can do it. Send them into the desert without bread or water. Burn their homes and churches. Then see if they will not laugh, sing and pray again. For when two of them meet anywhere in the world, see if they will not create a New Armenia.” - WS
