PRESIDENTS OF AZERBAIJAN AND ARMENIA TO MEET IN WARSAW
2005-05-14 18:03

The following round of negotiations over peaceful settlement of the
Daqliq Qarabaq conflict will take place on May 15th in Warsaw between
heads of states of the conflicting sides. Presidents of Azerbaijan
and Armenia Ilham Aliyev and Robert Kocharian will meet within the
summit of the heads of states of the Council of Europe member states.
This will be Ilham Aliyev’s fourth meeting with his Armenian
counterpart. In his interview with ANS chief of foreign relations
department of Presidential Administration Novruz Mammadov said that
principles forwarded by official Baku regarding settlement process
remains unchanged and the conflict must be settled within
Azerbaijan’s territorial integrity. Negotiations goes on the base of
this principle. But I can’t give information regarding the issues to
be discussed during the Presidents’ meeting. After all negotiations
ongoing and it means there is an opportunity to achieve breakthrough.
According to Novruz Mammadov certain issues will be clarified in
Warsaw meeting and clear idea will be formed of Armenia’s position.
Armenian sides breaches ceasefire regularly recently and finds
excuses to avoid attending talks. We want peaceful settlement to the
conflict and expect Armenian side to take steps. Intention of
Armenian leadership and future steps will be clear during the meeting
of the presidents. Mr. Mammadov informed that Ilham Aliyev will meet
heads of states of other European states within the summit and Daqliq
Qarabaq issue will be priority. We know that CE has named Armenia as
an aggressor, recognised occupation of Daqliq Qarabaq territory of
Azerbaijan and the regime here as separatist. I think that the
resolution adopted by the CE is of great importance. Azerbaijani
leadership will try to get support of the CE.
