YEREVAN, JULY 1, ARMENPRESS. The meeting of the Special Representatives of Armenia and Turkey dealing with the Armenia-Turkey normalization process launched in Vienna, the Armenian Foreign Ministry said.

The last meeting of the special envoys took place on May 3. They reaffirmed the declared goal of achieving full normalization between their respective countries through this process. They reiterated their agreement to continue the process without preconditions.

YEREVAN, JULY 1, ARMENPRESS. Prime Minister of Armenia Nikol Pashinyan received the Federal Minister of Economic Cooperation and Development of the Federal Republic of Germany Svenja Schulze and the delegation headed by her, ARMENPRESS was informed from the Office of the Prime Minister.

The Prime Minister emphasized the high level of political dialogue between Armenia and Germany, attaching importance to the visit of the German governmental delegation to our country. “Germany is Armenia’s largest trade and economic partner among the EU countries, and we also highly appreciate Germany’s support for Armenia’s democratic agenda, exchange of experience. We are interested in the continuation and expansion of our effective cooperation,” Nikol Pashinyan said.

The Federal Minister of the Federal Republic of Germany thanked for the reception and emphasized that close relations have been established between the two countries, including within the framework of the EU Eastern Partnership initiative. Svenja Schulze expressed the readiness of the German government to continue and develop the mutually beneficial partnership and joint projects with Armenia.

The Prime Minister emphasized that Armenia is committed to continuing the democratic path and attached importance to the Eastern Partnership initiative, within the framework of which Armenia has made progress in a number of criteria. Nikol Pashinyan presented the Government’s reforms in education, justice, police and a number of other areas.

The interlocutors noted that Armenia and Germany have the potential to develop relations in different directions and the will to advance this agenda. Issues of deepening cooperation in agriculture, food security, renewable energy, education, tourism, environmental protection and other areas of mutual interest were discussed. The sides emphasized the initiatives promoting women’s economic and social involvement.

The Prime Minister informed that since January, 2022 Armenia has recorded a high index of economic activity, and the investment environment of our country, continuously improving conditions can be interesting for German business, to which the Federal Minister of Economic Cooperation and Development of Germany gave a positive response. The Prime Minister also expressed satisfaction with the cooperation of Armenia with the German Agency for International Cooperation (GIZ) and the Reconstruction Credit Institute  (KfW).

YEREVAN, JULY 1, ARMENPRESS. German Federal Minister of Economic Cooperation and Development Svenja Schulze considers German investments in Armenia as possible if a number of legal prerequisites are met, many of which the government of Armenia is committed to today. Germany intends and will be happy to assist in creating these prerequisites, Schulze said in a joint press conference with Minister of Economy of Armenia Vahan Kerobyan, answering the question of ARMENPRESS about what investment opportunities she sees in Armenia for German businessman and if Armenia has a favorable environment for German investments.

The German Minister considered the presence of high-quality specialists to be a very important prerequisite. “Secondly, the legal prerequisites to which the Armenian government is committed to today, the fight against corruption, reforms of the justice system, stable democracy, are the guarantees under which German investments are possible. The German side intends and will be happy to support the Armenian government to create these prerequisites,” said Schulze.

The German official is in Armenia on a two-day visit. As part of the visit, on July 1, she had a meeting with Prime Minister of Armenia Nikol Pashinyan, Minister of Economy Vahan Kerobyan.

YEREVAN, JULY 1, ARMENPRESS. Special representatives of the process of normalization of relations between Armenia and Turkey, Ruben Rubinyan, Deputy Speaker of the National Assembly of Armenia, and Ambassador Serdar Kılıç held the fourth meeting in Vienna on July 1.

As ARMENPRESS was informed from MFA Armenia, the sides agreed to enable the crossing of the land border between Armenia and Turkey by third-country citizens visiting Armenia and Turkey respectively at the earliest date possible and decided to initiate the necessary process to that end.

They also agreed on commencing direct air cargo trade between Armenia and Turkey at the earliest possible date and decided to initiate the necessary process to that effect.

Furthermore, they discussed other possible concrete steps that can be undertaken towards achieving the ultimate goal of full normalization between their respective countries.

Finally, they reemphasized their agreement to continue the normalization process without preconditions.

YEREVAN, JULY 1, ARMENPRESS. Prime Minister of Armenia Nikol Pashinyan attended the ceremonial session dedicated to the establishment day of the State Protection Service of the National Security Service, ARMENPRESS was informed from the Office of the Prime Minister.

Chief of Staff of the Prime Minister Arayik Harutyunyan, Director of the National Security Service Armen Abazyan, Head of the State Protection Service Sargis Hovhannisyan and other officials were also present at the event.

The Prime Minister congratulated the representatives of the State Protection Service on the occasion of the holiday and noted that the State Protection Service performs special functions that are extremely important for the normal functioning of the state.

“I must emphasize that we have survived and are still surviving a rather difficult period, and during this period the State Protection Service properly fulfilled its task and performed its function. This deserves appreciation. However, like any public administration body, starting from ministries, departments, we should never be satisfied with the quality of our work and should try to improve it every day, especially since work is a phenomenon that always has room for improvement”, the Prime Minister said.

According to Nikol Pashinyan, the State Protection Service is entering a new stage of institutional development. The Prime Minister reminded that according to the Government’s Action Plan and the adopted political decision, the State Protection Service will function as a body under the Prime Minister in the near future, following the legislative changes. In this regard, Nikol Pashinyan emphasized the development of the institutional capacities of the State Protection Service.

“I am talking about increasing the quality of the personnel’s work and technical equipment. In this direction, of course, we must be consistent and solve the the tasks set before us.

Once again I want to thank all of you for the work done, the service and wish all of us success in solving the tasks set before us, because indeed our Motherland is going through very difficult times, and the overcoming of these difficult times must be carried out at a proper level, so that as a result of all this we have a safe, developing, developed country, where every citizen of the Republic of Armenia will feel confident and will look to the future with more confident eyes and feelings”, the Prime Minister said.

Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan awarded a group of employees of the State Protection Service of the National Security Service of Armenia with the Medal for Combat Service, the Prime Minister’s Commemorative Medal and the Prime Minister’s Letter of Appreciation for their dedication and bravery while performing their duties.

NSS director Armen Abazyan also presented awards to the head of the State Protection Service Sargis Hovhannisyan and a group of representatives of the Service.

They agreed to enable the crossing of the land border between Armenia and Turkey by third-country citizens visiting Armenia and Turkey respectively at the earliest date possible and decided to initiate the necessary process to that end.

They also agreed on commencing direct air cargo trade between Armenia and Turkey at the earliest possible date and decided to initiate the necessary process to that effect.

Furthermore, they discussed other possible concrete steps that can be undertaken towards achieving the ultimate goal of full normalization between their respective countries.

The Special Representatives previously held three meetings in Moscow and Vienna.

On Thursday, Rubinyan told reporters that Yerevan did not see much progress in the negotiation process with Ankara.

“Since the beginning of the process, Armenia has been very constructive, Armenia has the political will, and the success of this process depends on the political will of Turkey. As you can see, up to this point there has not been much progress,” he said, adding that certain announcements by Turkey’s leaders did not bode well for the progress of the talks.

Henrikh Mkhitaryan Signs Contract with Inter Milan

Football Club Internazionale Milano, commonly referred to as Inter, has officially signed André Onana, Henrikh Mkhitaryan, Kristjan Asslani, and Romelu Lukaku, according to Italian journalist Fabrizio Romano.

After both Onana and Mkhitaryan joined on a free transfer, the pundit explained that the next signing will be Raoul Bellanova from Cagliari.

While Inter and Serie A are yet to confirm the signing, the major digital football platform Transfermarkt lists ex-Roma midfielder Henrikh Mkhitaryan as a player for Inter. The contract is set to expire on June 30, 2024.

It is reported that the salary he agreed with Inter will be worth an initial $3.4M per season, net, plus performance-related bonuses. With add-ons, his salary should reach $4.3M per year.

Memorial Peace Garden in La Verne, Calif. Named After Dr. Garbis Der-Yeghiayan

The Rotary Club of La Verne officially unveiled the Dr. Garbis Der-Yeghiayan Memorial Peace Garden at Mils Park in La Verne, California on Saturday, June 11. The memorial’s focal point comprises of a peace pole with the words “May peace prevail on earth” written in four languages, each one a language spoken by the late Dr. Garbis Der-Yeghiayan. 

Former and present city mayors, past and present Rotary International District Governors and local Rotary chapter presidents, local government officials, law enforcement and La Verne Fire Fighters, alumni of the American Armenian International College, past and present Mashdots College students, family, and friends graced the dedication event.

The ceremony began with Angela Amirian, a Mashdots College alumna, playing “Amazing Grace” and the traditional Armenian song “Kilikia” on the violin. La Verne Rotarian and Master of Ceremonies, Debbie Deacy, welcomed the guests and Rev. Dr. Johnny Der-Yeghiayan, son of the late Dr. Garbis Der-Yeghiayan, opened the event with a prayer. 

Dr. Garbis Der-Yeghiayan’s eldest son, James Der-Yeghiayan, followed with speaking about the life of his father. Sharon Johnson-May, President of the Rotary Club of La Verne, then described the impetus for and journey to build a memorial in Dr. Der-Yeghiayan’s honor. La Verne City Mayor Tim Hepburn described a man whose life pursuing peace impacted both his local community and the world.

Rev. Dr. Johnny Der-Yeghiayan thanked all of the donors for the generous donations made to complete the main construction of the memorial, and Angela Der-Yeghiayan, wife of Dr. Garbis Der-Yeghiayan, followed with heartfelt words of gratitude and meaning of the memorial to her family.  The event then concluded with a ribbon cutting ceremony where singer Lisa Sheasby, President Elect of the Rotary Club of Upland, sang “Amazing Grace” and “The Lord’s Prayer,” while Angela Der-Yeghiayan and Sharon Johnson-May cut the ribbon, surrounded by key figures in the creation of the memorial.

The memorial’s construction is approximately 90 percent funded, but additional funds are being raised to help complete the project. As the La Verne Rotary President Sharon Johnson-May explained, the hope is that the memorial will last over one hundred years.
