Armenian PM sends congratulatory letter to Canadian counterpart

YEREVAN, JULY 1, ARMENPRESS. Prime Minister of Armenia Nikol Pashinyan sent a congratulatory message to Prime Minister of Canada Justin Trudeau on the occasion of Canada Day, the Armenian PM’s Office said.

The message reads as follows,

“Honorable Mr. Prime Minister, dear Justin,

On behalf of the Government of the Republic of Armenia and on my personal behalf, I convey to you warm congratulations and best wishes on the occasion of Canada Day.

Armenia appreciates the development of relations with Canada and is determined to deepen them as much as possible. The efforts of the Government of Canada and personally your efforts to support the accomplishment of democracy in the Republic of Armenia, one of the brightest manifestations of which was the visit of Special Envoy to Europe Stéphane Dion to Yerevan, are greatly appreciated. The recommendations in the comprehensive report pusblished based on the results of that visit can serve as a roadmap for the effective development of relations between our countries.

Once again congratulating you and the friendly people of Canada on this holiday, I express my readiness to continue the close cooperation for the sake of peace, prosperity and friendship of the peoples of the two countries.

YEREVAN, JULY 1, ARMENPRESS. Extraordinary session launched in the Parliament of Armenia.

The session has been convened at the initiative of the ruling Civil Contract faction.

The draft decisions on removing Vice Speaker of Parliament Ishkhan Saghatelyan, representing the opposition Hayastan faction, from the position, as well as terminating the powers of the same faction MP Vahe Hakobyan as the chairman of the standing committee on economic affairs are on the agenda of the session.

German Federal Minister for Economic Cooperation visits Armenian Genocide Memorial in Yerevan

YEREVAN, JULY 1, ARMENPRESS. German Federal Minister for Economic Cooperation and Development Svenja Schulze and her delegation visited today the Armenian Genocide Memorial in Yerevan.

The German delegation was accompanied by Armenian Deputy Minister of Economy Armen Arzumanyan, German Ambassador to Armenia Victor Richter and Armenian Ambassador to Germany Viktor Yengibaryan.

Deputy Director of the Museum-Institute Edita Gzoyan welcomed the guests and introduced them on the history of the creation of the Memorial.

She also introduced the history of three cross-stones located in the territory of the Memorial, which are dedicated to the memory of Armenians killed during the ethnic cleansings carried out against the Armenian population in Azerbaijan in the end of the past century.

The German Minister laid a wreath at the Memorial and the delegation members laid flowers at the Eternal Flame, by paying a tribute to the memory of the victims with a moment of silence.

Parliament removes two opposition MPs from office

YEREVAN, JULY 1, ARMENPRESS. The Parliament of Armenia recalled opposition MP Ishkhan Saghatelyan from the post of Vice Speaker of Parliament, and terminated the powers of opposition lawmaker Vahe Hakobyan as Chairman of the Standing Committee on Economic Affairs.

The results were clear after a closed voting.

66 MPs participated in the voting, and all voted in favor of the draft decisions.

The opposition lawmakers did not participate in the voting.

The emergency session of the Parliament has been convened at the initiative of the ruling Civil Contract faction.

The explanation of the decision regarding Saghatelyan said that he has failed to fulfill the duties of the Vice Speaker of Parliament. 

As for Hakobyan, the decision says that he had numerous absences from the parliamentary activities.

YEREVAN, JULY 1, ARMENPRESS. Prime Minister of Armenia Nikol Pashinyan visited today the Office of the Prosecutor General for the special session dedicated to the 104th anniversary of the establishment of the Office and the Day of the Prosecutor’s Office Employee, the PM’s Office said.

The session was attended by incumbent Prosecutor General Artur Davtyan, the newly-elected Prosecutor General Anna Vardapetyan and representatives of the Office.

YEREVAN, JULY 1, ARMENPRESS. Arayik Harutyunyan, Chief of Staff at the Office of Prime Minister of Armenia, received Vice President of the Armenian International Medical Fund (AIMF), Doctor at the University of California Los Angeles, Akira Ishiyama, the government’s press service said.

Akira Ishiyama is in Armenia to carry out surgeries for free within the framework of cochlear implant joint project with AMIF President Salpy Akaragian.

Akira Ishiyama and Salpy Akaragian have been awarded with Gratitude Letters of the Prime Minister of Armenia for their great contribution to the development of healthcare and for their humanitarian activity.

Arayik Harutyunyan handed over the awards to the renowned doctor and Mrs. Akaragian. He expressed gratitude to Akira Ishiyama for regularly conducting surgeries for humanitarian purposes in Armenia.

Opposition MP Armen Gevorgyan quits as Chairman of Parliament’s Standing Committee on Regional and Eurasian Integration

YEREVAN, JULY 1, ARMENPRESS. Member of Parliament of Armenia from the opposition Hayastan faction Armen Gevorgyan has stepped down as Chairman of the Standing Committee on Regional and Eurasian Integration Affairs.

“Serving as Chairman of the parliamentary standing committee on regional and Eurasian integration affairs since 2021, I have always treated my work with great responsibility, have invested all my knowledge and experience and have always tried to ensure a productive working atmosphere in the committee. I did this specifically highlighting our country’s prospect of Eurasian development. However, the political developments in the country brought to a point that I am submitting my resignation from the position of the Chairman of the Committee. Today’s situation dedicates clear rules of political, public and human ethnics, which I cannot ignore and which do not allow me to continue serving as a Committee Chair”, he said in a statement.

The lawmaker, however, said that he will continue working and fulfilling the duties in all international platforms and structures “which are important for the state”.

EUR exchange rate up by 2.81 drams to 426.35 drams. Russian Ruble exchange rate down by 0.29 drams to 7.46 drams. GBP exchange rate down by 0.99 drams to 491.82 drams.

The Central Bank has set the following prices for precious metals.

Gold price up by 33.41 drams to 23831.58 drams. Silver price down by 6.85 drams to 267.76 drams. Platinum price stood at 16414.1 drams.

Opposition MP quits as Deputy Chair of Parliament’s Standing Committee on Foreign Affairs

YEREVAN, JULY 1, ARMENPRESS. Head of the opposition “I Have an Honor” faction of the Armenian Parliament Hayk Mamijanyan has made a decision to step down as Deputy Chairman of the Parliamentary Standing Committee on Foreign Affairs.

“I have been serving as Deputy Chair of the Parliament’s Standing Committee on Foreign Affairs for around a year. Considering the parliamentary diplomacy as a key tool to properly represent the interests of Armenia and Artsakh in international platforms, I have tried to use it as effectively as possible. Given the current political and moral crisis created by the political majority, I decided to step down from the post of the Deputy Chair of the Standing Committee on Foreign Affairs, by continuing to serve my knowledge and ties for the benefit of our homeland, including with the use of parliamentary and party diplomacy tools”, the lawmaker said in a statement on social media.
