KIEV. – “You gave me the opportunity to look in a new way into the
‘oil-genocide’ phrase,” Cossacks representative in Ukraine Oleg
Vasilyuk stated after watching the documentary film entitled “Ordinary
Genocide: Maragha, 10 April 1992.”

He noted that if an Armenian Genocide Day were to be observed in
Ukraine, this would honor the memory of the brotherly Armenian people
who have experienced a terrible tragedy.

“I am convinced everyone will join our petition to Ukraine’s
authorities, whereby we ask to by law recognize April 24 as Armenian
Genocide Commemoration Day,” Vasilyuk said, Analitika.at.ua informs.

To note, a roundtable discussion on the Armenian Genocide was convened
in Kiev on April 13, during which the aforementioned documentary
was screened.

The event’s discussants also adopted a petition, addressed to Ukrainian
President Viktor Yanukovych and Supreme Rada (parliament) Chairman
Volodymyr Lytvyn, whereby it is asked that April 24 be recognized as
Armenian Genocide Commemoration Day.

YERKIR: ARMENIA’S PM TIGRAN SARGSYAN IS BEHIND ASHOTYAN-ZOLYAN CONFLICT

The daily Yerkir writes that though Armenia’s Minister of Education and
Science Armen Ashotyan relieved Suren Zolyan, rector of the Yerevan
State Linguistic University, of his duties the latter is not going
to leave his office.

The paper says he advised Ashotyan to attentively read the laws,
according to which the rector of the linguistic university is being
elected by the university and the election results are confirmed by
a relevant decision of the Armenian government.

According to the newspaper, in reality it is not the outcome of
Ashotyan-Zolyan conflict but the reasons of the conflict go rather
deep. According to the paper’s sources, behind the conflict stands
Armenia’s Prime Minister Tigran Sargsyan. As it is known Tigran
Sargsyan is chairman of the Administration Board of Khachatur Abovian
Pedagogical University and has serious programs connected with Brusov
Linguistic University. The prime minister wants to unite these
two universities in future and turn Brusov in not so prestigious
establishment functioning under subordination of the Pedagogical
University.

Religious Freedom In Azerbaijan Highly Restricted

RELIGIOUS FREEDOM IN AZERBAIJAN HIGHLY RESTRICTED

Wednesday, April 18th, 2012

OSLO-“Freedom of religion or belief and related human rights such as
the freedom of expression and of assembly remain highly restricted,”
says a report published by Forum 18, a Web and email initiative,
which provides original reporting and analysis on violations of the
freedom of thought, conscience and belief of all people, whatever their
religious affiliation, in an objective, truthful and timely manner.

Among issues documented in Forum 18’s religious freedom survey are:
state attempts to counter discussion of violations with claims of
inter-religious harmony and religious tolerance; officials behaving
as if the rule of law places no limitations on their actions;
unfair trials lacking due legal process; steadily increasing “legal”
restrictions on and punishments for exercising freedom of religion or
belief, often prepared in secret, forming a labyrinth of restrictive
state controls; “legal” denials of international human rights standards
Azerbaijan has agreed to implement; a highly restrictive censorship
regime; enforced closures of places people meet for worship; a ban on
praying outside mosques; jailing of prisoners of conscience exercising
the right to conscientious objection to military service; arbitrary
deportations of foreign citizens exercising the right to freedom of
religion or belief; and severe denials of human rights in Nakhichevan.

“Azerbaijan is likely to remain a place where fundamental human rights
are violated with impunity, and the state tries to make exercising
human rights conditional upon state permission,” says the report.

Forum 18, named after Article 18 of the Universal Declaration Human
Rights is a Norwegian-Danish non-profit charitable initiative

In his presentation government ministers on Monday, Azerbaijan’s
President Ilham Aliyev said that the Armenian lobby was to blamed for
the international community’s criticism of Baku’s abysmal policy on
human rights and continuous abuses.

Azerbaijan has signed an agreement with Israeli company Rafael to
purchase anti-tank missiles Spike-SR and Spike-LR, and with the
company Elbit Systems to purchase 120 mm mortars of Cardom type.

Information about the orders of Azerbaijan and their delivery has
not been provided, APA reported.

Azerbaijan adopted anti-tank missiles Spike in 2010.

Spike-SR is a short range version Spike, minimum range is 200 m while
the maximum range is 800 m and is intended for infantry use. The
reusable Command & launch unit (CLU), battery, tripod and the thermal

New Homes: Apple Of Discord

NEW HOMES: APPLE OF DISCORD

Not only the delay of the distribution of homes, but also the decision
of belonging cause a real headache for homeless families with more
than one child that suffered from the earthquake. There are serious
discrepancies for several families.

The Petrosyan family in Gyumri is facing an issue. The Petrosyans’
three children started their own families after the earthquake,
but the order is that the number of rooms in the homes provided to
homeless families is equivalent to the number of people whom they lost
during the earthquake, if the number of members of the families hasn’t
gone down. In such cases, the number of rooms also decreases. This
year their three families consisting of 11 members will be granted a
4-bedroom apartment. Some of them, including Rima and Suren Petrosyan
and their four children have decided to live in a shack and won’t be
homeless anymore.

LEVON TER-PETROSYAN: BY DELIVERING OF THE ELECTORAL BRIBES 5-10 THSD DRAMS THE ARMENIAN AUTHORITIES HAVE BEEN SPOILING THE PEOPLE IN BIGGER SCALES

By delivering of the electoral bribes 5-10 thsd drams the Armenian
authorities have been spoiling the people in bigger scales. Starting
with the president and ending with ministers and heads of regional
administrations – all of them are thieves and robbers, the leader
of the opposition Armenian National Congress, the first president of
Armenia, Levon Ter-Petrosyan, said at today’s meeting with voters of
Ararat region.

“Just for this reason the West does not let power change in Armenia,
as it needs weak power in Armenia, so that to be easily guided
and bribed. What power would agree to create a joint commission of
historians to clear out if the Armenian genocide was implemented or
not? I should also add that Serzh Sargsyan gave them such a promise
in 2007…Before the election Serzh Sargsyan also promised to agree
on settlement of the Karabakh conflict according to the Madrid
principles. Despite external pressure, you know very well what this
document, which I imposed veto on in 1996, is”, – Ter-Petrosyan said.
