Armenia’s Deputy Agriculture Minister Robert Makaryan

Armenia’s Deputy Agriculture Minister Robert Makaryan announced at a
press conference on Thursday that the fruit and vegetable processing
companies are willing to purchase all produce in the republic this
year.

The official said that the group set up at the ministry in April to
make projections regarding the expected procurement and help remove
possible obstacles also provided farmers and processing companies
with guidelines regarding procurement activity.

“As of September 2, 24 fruit-and-vegetable and grapes processing
companies have concluded about 8,400 contracts with farmers, of
which 7,900 regarding grapes, and the rest in relation to fruits and
vegetables,” said the deputy minister, adding that the process of
signing contracts is continuing.

2010 proved a disastrous for Armenia’s agricultural sector because of
unfavorable weather conditions and independent specialists estimate
that as a result of the wrong agricultural policy the agricultural
sector recorded a 14.5-percent decline.

Makaryan cited data provided by fruit-vegetable processing companies
according to which the demand for fruit and vegetables purchases this
year makes 65,700 tons of vegetables and 21,000 tons of fruits.

According to the results for late 2010, processing companies had
purchased about 30,000 tons of vegetables and 3,600 tons of fruits.

The amount of grapes purchased by such companies made 134,000 tons.

The deputy minister also presented the statistics of procurements
so far.

“As of September 7, 23,800 tons of vegetables have been purchased by
processing companies, of which 21,500 tons of tomato, and the rest
are cucumber, eggplant, etc.; the companies also have purchased 5,700
tons of fruit, of which 2,450 tons of apricot, the rest are cherry,
sweet cherry, plum, etc.,” said the deputy minister.

Presenting export data as of September 7, the official said that 9,574
tons of fruits and vegetables have been exported, mostly to Russia,
Georgia and Ukraine. A small amount of greens have also been exported
to the United Arab Emirates. During the identical period of 2010 the
amount of total fruit and vegetable exports stood at 7,352 tons.

ARMENIA UNDERTAKES STEPS FOR THE REGULATION OF BALANCE AND BUDGET DEFICIT

Armenia is undertaking steps for the regulation of balance and
budget deficit, Finance Minister Vache Gabrielyan told a news
conference today. According to him, the mentioned steps have found
their reflection in the assessments of world rating organizations
and particularly “Fitch”. “Fiscal deficit increased essentially in
Armenia in 2009 when taking debt commitments we have smoothened the
consequences of the economic crisis”, the minister said, adding that
during this period the budget deficit reached 7.5% of GDP.

“We are moving with the program approved by the International Monetary
Fund and are regularly reducing the budget deficit”, the minister said.

Particularly, from 7.5% the budget deficit reduced to 5%, this year
it will become 3.9-4%, next year 3.-3.1%. “It means that we are
stably managing the fiscal crack of the budget and in this respect
we received positive assessment”, Gabrielyan said.

Security Council Arthur Baghdasaryan received the newly appointed
head of “The South Caucasus. Political dialogue” project of Konrad
Adenauer fund Canan Atilgan. Konrad Adenauer fund is a German political
fund which supports the development of democracy, legal state and
social-market economy and has more than 70 offices in the world.

Arthur Baghdasaryan underlined the necessity of giving new impetus
to the cooperation between Armenia and German fund. The perspectives
of establishment of Caucasus-Europe international political club
were discussed.

Mrs. Atilgan noted that she was ready to promote the development of
the cooperation and to take concrete steps for the beginning of the
mentioned project which was envisaged to carry out with the support
of the fund.

YOUTH PILGRIMAGE DEDICATED TO THE 20TH ANNIVERSARY OF ARMENIA’S INDEPENDENCE

Ahead of the 20th anniversary of Armenia’s independence, the Holy
See of St Etchmiadzin is organizing a youth pilgrimage September
17. Press service of the Holy See reported that the young people will
gather on Yerevan’s Liberty Square and head towards the St Gregory the
Illuminator Cathedral to meet with the Catholicos of all Armenians,
Karekin II.

A blessing ceremony at the cathedral will be followed by a concert.

The reconstruction works of the Yerevan State Circus will soon launch.

Chief architect of Yerevan Narek Sargsyan said reconstruction of
the square of “Sassuntsi Davit” station is also intended. The chief
architect told reporters that open tender for Garegin Nzhdeh’s monument
is announced.

Mantashov’s monument will be placed near the former “Children’s
World” on Abovian street. The monument to Fridtjof Nansen was
entrusted to sculptor Garegin Davtyan. The monument will be placed
on Moskovyan-Abovyan crossroad in early November.

The jury of the art council of the City Hall will decide who will
make Karen Demirtchyan monument.

Narek Sargsyan said in early October the opening ceremony of Charles
Aznavour house-museum will take place. Hrant Matevosyan’s museum is
also expected to be built in Yerevan. Issue on constructing a building
for the State Pantomime Theatre is also in the agenda, the building
may be built on North Avenue.

MAXIMUM DEFINED CAPACITY OF SMALL HPPS IN ARMENIA TO INCREASE TO 30 MEGAWATT

YEREVAN, September 9. /ARKA/. Government of Armenia proposed to Public
Services Regulatory Commission (PSRC) to define the maximum capacity
of small HPPs to 30 megawatt.

“Till now the capacity of 10 megawatt was defined and now we can
stimulate maximum usage of hydro-potential”, said Armenian Energy and
Natural resource Minister Armen Movsisyan in the government meeting.

The government also approved the rehabilitation program of gas-chemical
sphere.

As of March 1, 2011 there were 101 small HPPs in Armenia processing
electricity. Their total defined power was about 129.47 megawatt and
projected processing of electricity – about 409.9 million kilowatt-hour
a year.

In the same period licenses for the construction were provided to 74
small HPPs, which total defined capacity was about 140.6 megawatt.

Sont rapportes les entretiens du President de fait du HK, Bako Sahakian
avec l’agence de presse armenienne Panorama.am et le quotidien russe
Nezavisimaya Gazeta dans lesquels il affirme que Stepanakert est pret a
mener des negociations directes avec Bakou, ce qui constitue l’unique
moyen de parvenir au règlement du conflit. ” Sans cette participation
le conflit ne saurait etre resolu et plus tôt le HK sera inclus aux
pourparlers, plus vite le conflit sera resolu “.

Et d’ajouter que les copresidents du Groupe de Minsk reconnaissent
implicitement cette necessite. M. Sahakian ajoute que la
non-reconnaissance internationale prive le HK des benefices
de l’assistance financière et humanitaire de la communaute
internationale. ” Il nous paraît etrange que le HK, Etat democratique,
soit prive de la possibilite de cooperer avec diverses structures
internationales, tandis qu’un pays non democratique comme l’Azerbaïdjan
ne voit aucun obstacle en la matière. Toutefois nous sommes convaincus
que la reconnaissance du HK est une question de temps, toutes les
bases historiques, politiques, juridiques ou morales etant d’ores
et deja acquises “. Haykakan Jamanak relève que le Ministère des
AE azerbaïdjanais a adresse une note de protestation a la redaction
de Nezavisimaya Gazeta pour avoir invite le ” President ” du HK et
presente cette entite comme un ” Etat independant “.

FEARLESS ARMENIA BELIEVE THEY CAN BREAK IRISH

ARMENIA, the surprise packets in Ireland’s Euro 2012 group, insist
there’s no reason why they can’t come to Dublin and win their final
qualifying game next month.

The Armenian side have recovered from a poor start to the campaign –
they lost their opening game at home to Ireland and then drew away
to Macedonia – to come storming back into contention. They’ve beaten
Slovakia and Andorra at home and away, the most recent win coming in
Tuesday’s 4-0 hammering in Zilina, a venue where Ireland could only
manage a 1-1 draw.

Should Armenia win their next game at home to Macedonia – and John
Toshack’s Macedonian side have lost four of their last five outings
(the only relief coming in Tuesday’s narrow home win over Andorra)
– then Armenia will come to Dublin for the final group game with a
real chance of making the play-offs at Ireland’s expense, if they
can get a win at Lansdowne Road.

“Why can’t we go to Ireland and get a win?” asks Armenia’s keeper
Roman Berezovski, who was in goal for them when Keith Fahey’s
78th-minute strike earned Ireland a win on the opening day of the
group 12 months ago.

“We have a young team with an attacking attitude, we have young lads
in the team who don’t know any fear.

“They don’t go out and play for a draw, they don’t know how to.

“So we will play Macedonia at home next month and then see if we can
go to Dublin and win,” added the keeper.

Ireland quite rightly boast about the team’s defensive record of
seven successive clean sheets, a new record for the national team,
but Armenia have shown admirable stinginess at the back as well, as
keeper Berezovski has conceded in just one of the last five qualifiers
– the 3-1 defeat by Russia. Their manager, Vardan Minasyan (pictured),
is very proud of his team as their run at the end of the campaign
has made Armenia genuine contenders for the play-offs.

He is aware that Armenia have a good away record in this campaign,
while Ireland have, in recent home qualifiers, failed to win against
teams like Russia, Slovakia, Bulgaria, Italy and Montenegro.

“We are in with a chance,” the manager says. “I know that our results
could have an effect on the other teams, our result against Ireland
could be of benefit to someone like Russia, depending on what happens
in the other games.

“But it all depends on us winning at home to Macedonia next month,
so we won’t think too far ahead.”

Goalscorer Yura Movsisyan said: “I’m not surprised by the win in
Slovakia; we believed in each other from the very beginning.”

Defenders Hrayr Mkoyan and Robert Arzumanyan miss the match will miss
the Macedonia match.

ARMENIAN SQUAD TO GET 3 MILLION EURO FOR REACHING EURO 2012

YEREVAN.- President of Armenia’s Football Federation Ruben Hayrapetyan
said that the Armenian squad will get 3 million euro if it reaches
the final tournament of EURO 2012.

“A year ago I promised the team will be paid a 3 million euro bonus if
it reaches the final tournament of EURO 2012,” he said in an interview
with public television.

Armenia has garnered 14 points after an impressive victory over
Slovakia. Armenia now remains only 3 points behind the group leader,
Russia. Ireland is in second place, with 15 points, and Armenia is
third in Group B.
