/PanARMENIAN.Net/ "Many times in Paris, Key West, Rambouillet I saw
the closeness of attaining peace over the Nagorno Karabakh conflict
and today OSCE MG proposals seem fair, weighed and reasonable. I told
this to Armenian and Azeri Presidents Kocharian and Aliyev," French
President Jacques Chirac stated in an interview to the Hayastani
Hanrapetutyun (Republic of Armenia) newspaper. "I would like to see
Yerevan and Baku displaying courage for attaining peace," he added. "I
was involved in the solution of the Karabakh issue myself, as I am
aware with the suffering caused by the conflict and as peace is the
only way to build a democratic and prospering future," Chirac said. In
his words, economic dynamism, geostrategic location of Armenia will
be fully useful only provided that borders are open and relations
are settled with neighbors. "Today G8 countries and the international
community are ready to become guarantees of a peace accord over the
Karabakh issue. This apt moment should not be missed," the French
President added.

Strasbourg, 27 September: Turkish MPs from [ruling] Justice and

which was approved by the European Parliament today and said the
evaluation report is better than the report prepared by Foreign
Affairs Commission.

AKP Deputy Chairman Saban Disli, Council of Europe Parliamentary
Assembly (PACE) Turkish delegation leader Murat Mercan and Turkish
Parliament EU Adjustment Commission Chairman Yasar Yakis spoke at a
joint press conference after EP’s decision, on Wednesday.

AKP Deputy Chairman Disli said that they met representatives of EP
in Brussels and Strasbourg prior to EP’s decision. "We relayed them
the message that, it wouldn’t be beneficial to anyone to accept the
report prepared by Foreign Affairs Commission," Disli added.

Disli mentioned that they succeeded on their attempts and the lawmakers
dropped their demand that Turkey must acknowledge the so-called
Armenian genocide before it can join the European Union. He also
expressed his gladness on the refusal of French lawmakers proposal
for Turkey’s privileged partnership to the EU.

Saban Disli said that the report is not worse than the prior reports
and he added "however, there are parts of the report that bothers us.

We expect them to act fairly especially on the Cyprus issue. We hope
them to take a decision that rewards Turkish Cypriots"

Disli stated that for the first time EP documents mentioned that
Turkey’s economy is going well.

Meanwhile, Council of Europe Parliamentary Assembly (PACE) Turkish
delegation leader Murat Mercan said that the claims on Turkey’s reform
period has slowed down are not true. "It is in our hands to change
this misunderstanding" he added.

European Parliament vote on the issue of Turkey’s recognition of the
Armenian Genocide, RA Foreign Minister Vartan Oskanian said in Yerevan
today. In his words, the withdrawal of the precondition does not
reflect the general tendency on the issue among the EU member states.

"The decision of the European Parliament is a serious political
document. It’s important not only for Turkey but also for any
other state. As a matter of fact Turkey is obliged to acknowledge
the Armenian Genocide and open the Armenian-Turkish border. The

Extinguish Acts Of Hatred That Can Ignite Genocide

EXTINGUISH ACTS OF HATRED THAT CAN IGNITE GENOCIDE

Rochester Democrat and Chronicle, NY
Sept 26 2006

Tatyana Seyko Chiley
Guest essayist

(September 26, 2006) – Genocide is "the deliberate and systematic
extermination of a national or racial group." When I read this
definition, it sends chills down my back.

A well-known genocide is the Holocaust: the mass murder of Jews during
the 1940s. Throughout world history, and up to the present day, many
genocides have occurred. And it seems as if every time a genocide ends,
people say, "Never again."

Yet here we are today, in 2006, with too many people ignoring the
Darfur genocide. However, it cannot be ignored no matter how hard the
world tries. Once a genocide begins, the scars are deeply rooted in
a people and nation.

It takes just a single person to start a genocide, but it also takes
a large group of believers to get the process going. If nations
continue to ignore the warning signs, most definitely a genocide
will start rapidly unwinding. In a short time, hundreds are dead,
then thousands and then millions. Genocides occur mainly because of
the four-letter word: hate. One group thinks it is superior, so it
plans carefully to exterminate that target.

Small acts of persecution, abuse and hate can rapidly spin out of
control. How? Simple. No one stands up for the truth. Thousands watch
on the sidelines, thinking, "It’s not my fight," or "I’ll get hurt
if I try to intercede." I believe it’s worth it to suffer for others
rather than to idly watch them suffer.

Genocides first start very small and quietly. Witnesses and even
victims think that a mass murder will not occur from such a small
event. Large, powerful nations hope the genocide disappears on its
own. Why don’t people show interest when millions are killed? Aren’t
a thousand innocent lives slaughtered enough to gain attention? The
only way for a genocide to subside is if it is stopped or if the
extermination is completed.

Don’t let small acts of hatred mushroom. If you see someone putting
down someone or someone’s belief, step in.

We, as the new generation, cannot let history repeat itself. Don’t let
the Armenian genocide, Holocaust, Cambodian genocide, Bosnian genocide,
Rwandan genocide or Darfur genocide go unnoticed or be repeated. If
one person can send hate around the world, then one soul can also
send love around the world and back! Little things matter.
