US Will Some Day Recognize Armenian Genocide

US WILL SOME DAY RECOGNIZE ARMENIAN GENOCIDE

20:16 * 21.04.15

Secretary of the Armenian Revolutionary Federation Dashnaktsutyun
(ARF-D) Aghvan Vardanyan is sure that a real resolution of the
Armenian Cause can be expected after all the major nations of the
world recognize the Armenian Genocide.

“You know that the issue is being discussed. Numerous organizations,
including the ARF-D, formed a group of renowned jurists working to get
a legal solution for the package. It is a matter of time, and I am sure
that the moment all the major nations recognize the Armenian Genocide
we will have the issue dealt with legally,” Mr Vardanyan told Tert.am.

As regards the possibility of Armenian-Turkish reconciliation, he
said that no Armenian-Turkish relations actually exist.

“Armenian-Turkish relations – what was envisaged by the protocols-
failed because of Turkey. Turkey is obviously setting preconditions
to Armenia, but we must follow our national aims, and the strength
of our positions depends on us.”

Respect for a person, organization or nation depends on his or its
self-respect.

As regard US President Barack Obama’s statement, Mr Vardanyan noted
that the US will some day recognize the Armenian Genocide.

“We have nothing to demand from anyone. The United States is a
state that declared panhuman values, and I think it will join the
discussions. But the moment it happens is their problem. The United
States is seeking to be the first in any matter, and I would not like
it to be the last in recognizing the panhuman values in question.”

HDP Vows To Be ‘Sultan’s Nightmare’ In Turkey Elections, Promises To

HDP VOWS TO BE ‘SULTAN’S NIGHTMARE’ IN TURKEY ELECTIONS, PROMISES TO OPEN ARMENIA BORDER

Turkey’s opposition Peoples’ Democratic Party (HDP) has announced its
election manifesto for the June 7 parliamentary elections, promising
freedoms in many areas, particularly targeting women and youth,
theHurriyet Daily News reports.

HDP co-chairs Selahattin DemirtaÃ…~_ and Figen Yuksekdag made promises
in several areas, including the economy, foreign policy, freedoms
and rights, the environment and green energy.

“The election manifesto that we present is the nightmare of the sultan
and the dream of all the peoples of Turkey,” HDP co-chair Yuksekdag
said in an apparent reference to President Recep Tayyip Erdogan,
who presents the upcoming polls as a referendum to switch from the
current parliamentary system to a presidential one.

DemirtaÃ…~_ said the HDP will distribute cards to all people between
the ages of 15 and 25 which will give them 200 Turkish Liras annually
for transportation and communication. This card will also allow free
entrance to all museums across the country.

The HDP vowed to lower the voting age to 16 and the age of candidates
for parliamentary seats to 18.

The party also pledged to establish a Women Ministry, which would
replace the current Family and Social Policies Ministry. The party
will open local kindergartens, which will be free of charge and provide
education in the students’ mother tongue, according to the manifesto.

The party said the new constitution will be centered on women and
added International Women’s Day on March 8 will be declared as
official holiday.

The minimum wage will be increased to 1,800 Turkish Liras while the
minimum retirement pension will also be increased to 1,800 liras,
according to the party’s election manifesto.

Speaking on foreign politics, DemirtaÃ…~_ said the border between Turkey
and Armenia will be opened unconditionally and the embargo on Armenia
will be lifted. “We will support the solution of the Nagorno-Karabakh
issue between Armenia and Azerbaijan,” he said.

On the issue of compulsory religion classes in schools, Yuksekdag
said they will remove the religion classes from the curriculum. The
compulsory religion classes have been widely criticized by the Alevi
community in Turkey for undermining their identity and beliefs.

Richard Hovhannisian: Obama’s Annual Statement On Armenian Genocide

RICHARD HOVHANNISIAN: OBAMA’S ANNUAL STATEMENT ON ARMENIAN GENOCIDE TO BE VERY MUCH DIFFERENT FROM PREVIOUS ONES

by Nana Martirosyan

Tuesday, April 21, 15:37

American historian of Armenian descent, professor at Californian
University Richard Hovhannisian has told journalists that Obama’s
annual statement on the Armenian Genocide is going to be very much
different from the previous ones.

According to the professor, Obama has been using the term “Mets
Yeghern” instead of “genocide” for many years. “The problem is that the
American society does not perceive “Mets Yeghern” as a grave crime,
but as a horrible tragedy. The Armenian side is to make every effort
to make the American society realize the gravity of the issue”, he
said. The expert believes that Obama will take it upon himself and
utter the word “genocide” despite the pressure State Department and
Pentagon put.

The professor has said he takes a dim view of future candidates
for presidency who say they will recognize the Armenian Genocide
if elected. “Obama has promised the same, the Armenian community
constantly reminds him about that. Still there has been no result yet”,
he said.

To note, the four-volume-work “Republic of Armenia” by Richard
Hovhannisian was presented on April 21. The professor spent 25 years
working on the books.

Cent Ans De Solitude Pour Les Armeniens

The Austrian Parliament’s lower chamber has adopted a declaration
condemning the Armenian Genocide committed in the Ottoman Empire 100
years ago.

The measure received backing by all the six groups represented in
the National Council, diepresse.com reports

The website refers to Austria’s historical responsibility for the
tragic events, noting that the Ottoman Empire was the Austria-Hungary’s
ally during World War I.

The National Council, which is often described as the lower house of
Austria’s legislature, is said to practically enjoy more power than
the Federal Council, the second chamber.

Armenian Genocide Resolution Submitted To Serbian Parliament

ARMENIAN GENOCIDE RESOLUTION SUBMITTED TO SERBIAN PARLIAMENT

21:47, 20 Apr 2015
Siranush Ghazanchyan

MPs of the opposition New Party (NS) submitted to the Serbian
parliament Monday a draft resolution on the recognition and
condemnation of genocide perpetrated by the Ottoman Empire against
the Armenian people in the period from 1915 to 1922, according to
Tanjug Exactly.

According to the website of that party, the draft resolution also calls
on other countries, including Turkey, and international organizations
to recognize and condemn the genocide against the Armenian people
and in that way help prevent such crimes from happening in the future.

New Party is calling on the Serbian government and citizens to observe
April 24 as a day of remembrance of the victims of the Armenian
Genocide, stressing that the day will mark one hundred years since
the beginning of the Armenian Genocide, recognized and condemned by
more than 20 countries.

The party said that the deliberate and systematic extermination of the
Armenian population in the Ottoman Empire, a persecution on a truly
horrifying scale, had been one of the most serious crimes against
humanity ever made, and it was therefore a moral obligation of all to
honor the victims by recognizing and strongly condemning the genocide.

Serb MP: For Decades Little Had Been Known About Armenian Genocide

SERB MP: FOR DECADES LITTLE HAD BEEN KNOWN ABOUT ARMENIAN GENOCIDE

23:33, 20.04.2015
Region:World News, Armenia
Theme: Politics, Analytics

Serbia’s Parliament ruling coalition MP Aleksandar Cotric wrote an
article on Armenian Genocide in the Serbian newspaperVecernje Novosti.

The article reads, in part:

“In the course of the crimes perpetrated in 1915-23, about two
million Armenians were kicked out of their houses. Hundred thousands
of innocent men, women and children were killed. According to the
Armenian sources, the number of the victims even reached 1.5 million.

This way the presence of Armenians was eliminated from the land where
they used to live over 2.5 thousand years.

The global forum “Against the Crime of Genocide” will be held in
Yerevan. I’m invited to represent the Serbian Skupshtina and speak
on the topic of parliamentarians against the crime of Genocide.

Serb people also fell victim to the genocide perpetrated by the
Ustashe on the territory of the Independent State of Croatia in
1941-45. Hundreds of thousands Serbs were killed on the territory
which was controlled by the Ustashe regime. To everyone’s shame,
post-war authorities of communist Yugoslavia neither recognized that
genocide nor informed the names of the victims.

The Ottoman Empire leadership (ally of Germany and Austria-Hungary)
perpetrated the great crime against the Armenians by the death march
through the Syrian Desert, where many people died from thirst and
exhaustion. Turks also committed a Genocide over the cultural heritage
of Armenian people: according to the Armenian sources, 66 cities,
25 thousand villages, 2350 thousand Christian churches and about 1500
schools had been destroyed.

Because of the systematic suppression of the facts about the deaths of
the Armenians, for decades little had been known about the Armenian
Genocide. This allowed Adolf Hitler to state in 1939, before the
beginning of Jews’ and Polacks’ exterminations: “Who, after all,
speaks today of the annihilation of the Armenians?”

I think the 100th anniversary of the terrible crime against the
Armenians is also a chance of normalizing the diplomatic relations
of Armenia and Turkey, opening of the border and building a bridge
for the new relations between the Armenians and Turks.”
