Social media crackdown: Saudi Arabia may end Twitter anonymity

Social media crackdown: Saudi Arabia may end Twitter anonymity

16:09 – 30.03.13

The Saudi Arabian communications regulator plans to link national
Twitter bloggers to personal social media user IDs, local media has
reported.

There are no technical or legal restrictions to the move, but
Twitter’s official approval is needed, The RT reports.
The Saudi Arabian Communications and Information Technology Commission
(CITC) studies ways to uncover social media users’ real identities,
according to a Friday report in daily newspaper Arab News Country’s
Twitter microbloggers are top-priority candidates to get tokenized.

This could easily be accomplished by monitoring users who access
Twitter from mobile phones, by requiring them to register an ID when
they add money to their phone accounts.

Ankara: Hizmet Movement To Address Armenian Issue

HIZMET MOVEMENT TO ADDRESS ARMENIAN ISSUE

Today’s Zaman, Turkey
March 29 2013

The impression I got while speaking with friends who are also members
of the Hizmet/Gulen movement and living in Chicago, where I have been
invited for the opening ceremony of a new cultural center established
by Turkish American Society of Chicago (TASC) on March 24, is that it
seems the Hizmet movement is the only Turkish civilian movement which
would positively contribute to the normalization of Turkish-Armenian
relations in the US, where the Armenian diaspora is considerably
strong.

The Armenian and Kurdish issues serve as a test for not only new
Turkish politics, which aim to shape Turkey’s future, but also the
Gulen movement.

During the last decade, the efforts of the Gulen movement to solve
the Kurdish issue have positively contributed to the solution process.

The Abant Platform, which has since its establishment in 1998 tackled
pressing issues facing Turkey, has held meetings in Diyarbakır
and Arbil, and brought the many different groups, academics and
intellectuals holding different opinions about the Kurdish issue
together. The reality that Kurds and Turks follow the same religion
and share a common history reinforced the movement’s efforts.

I believe that any assessment of the progress that we have made toward
the settlement of the Kurdish issue will be flawed if done without
considering the contributions of the Hizmet movement to the settlement
of the Kurdish issue. The contribution of the Hizmet movement, which
has strong ties with both Turks and Kurds, for the recognition of the
Kurdish identity by the state and the establishment of a new vision
toward the Kurdish issue cannot be compared to that of any another
civil society movement.

The Gulen movement is now preparing to contribute positively to another
issue much more complicated than the Kurdish issue: the Armenian issue.

Unfortunately, the official relations between Turks and Armenians
have been unable to reach the desired level.

There has been no major change in the Armenian diaspora’s attitude
towards the 1915 incidents.

Moreover, the official Turkish thesis about 1915 incidents is still
being protected. And this prevent us from confronting our history.

We will probably witness the Hizmet movement, which has already become
a global civil society movement, contribute to the solution of the
Armenian issue and the establishment of dialogue between the two sides.

I believe the efforts of the Hizmet movement in many countries, and
especially in the US, will be mentioned frequently while discussing
the confrontation with the incidents of 1915 in 2015.

This will be an important and new development.

Just as we managed to normalize the extremist reactions concerning
the Kurdish issue with the help of civil movements, the same can be
applied to the Armenian issue. If a movement which has originated from
Anatolia and spread to the entire world initiates a process for the
settlement of the Armenian issue, we can be optimistic and hopeful
about the solution.

The new TASC cultural center reflects the American society’s cultural
and religious diversity.

The Niagara Foundation has a special place in the Hizmet movement’s
works.

The Niagara Foundation organizes forums which are open to the public
and attended by distinguished speakers to shed light on agenda items
in the US.

During the last 10 year, the foundation has also invited thousands
of people to Turkey and paved the way for the formation of a cultural
and social tie between the two societies.

The picture that we witnessed during the opening ceremony of the
cultural center was a reflection of this meaningful fusion of the
cultures. Among the participants of the ceremony were distinguish
politicians, state bureaucrats, and representatives of various
religions and beliefs.

It can also be said that young academics who are also members of
the Hizmet movement will assume important positions in US media and
academic circles and obtain a certain representative power in the
future. I believe this is the general direction of the events. This
is a great advantage for Turkey.

The Hizmet movement has strong relations with the US society. If they
can use their strong relations with the US society to form a basis
for dialogue with the Armenian diaspora in the US and outside the US,
we can make very important progress in confronting the Armenian issue.

However, we have to show that we are ready to share their pain.

Robert Zildjian Dies: Musical Cymbal King Passes Away At 89

ROBERT ZILDJIAN DIES: MUSICAL CYMBAL KING PASSES AWAY AT 89

The Inquisitr
March 29 2013

Boston, MA – Robert Zildjian, cymbal mastermind and founder of musical
cymbal manufacturer Sabian Inc., has died. He was 89 years old. Sabian
announced Zildjian’s death on its website Thursday.

Robert Zildjian’s name will be recognizable to drummers and many rock
‘n’ roll fans. As a member of the Zildjian family, his surname is
etched on musical cymbals across the globe, as is that of Sabian,
the rival cymbal manufacturer he founded after a family feud in 1981.

Zildjian was born in Boston, Massachusetts in 1923, the son of Armenian
immigrant Avedis Zildjian. The family imported their knowledge of
cymbal making to the States, and swiftly set up a US arm of their
business. The business proved a profitable venture, with the rock ‘n’
roll era resulting in a staggering demand for its percussion products.

The Zildjian business was passed on to future generations of family
members, but when a dispute 0e0ru00pted between Robert and his brother,
Armand, Robert opted to leave Zildjian and create his own company.

Sabian Inc. was founded in New Brunswick, Canada in 1981. The companies
continue to be rivals, and both are among the world’s most popular
cymbal brands. Users of Sabian cymbals include Chad Smith of the
Red Hot Chili Peppers (who paid a Twitter tribute to Zildjian –
see below), Neil Peart of Rush, and drumming legend Mike Portnoy,
formerly of progressive metal giants Dream Theater.

If you’ve ever enjoyed the excitement and drama of live drums up
close, chances are you should be raising a glass to the acumen and
vision of Robert Zildjian. RIP, Robert.

Armenia’s National Carrier Goes Under

ARMENIA’S NATIONAL CARRIER GOES UNDER

The Associated Press
March 29 2013

YEREVAN, Armenia (AP) – Armenia’s national airline, Armavia, has
declared the start of bankruptcy proceedings.

The carrier said in Friday’s statement that it will halt flights
next week. Armavia currently has 14 aircraft conducting more than
100 flights a week to 20 countries.

Russia’s civil aviation authority said Armavia has an outstanding
debt of $1.4 million to Moscow’s Vnukovo airport and smaller debts
to two other airports in southern Russia.

Armavia’s owner, Mikhail Bagdasarov, announced his intention to sell
the company last year, but has failed to find a buyer. Bagdasarov
attributed Armavia’s troubles to the global economic downturn and
losses from using a new Russian-made Sukhoi superjet.

The landlocked ex-Soviet nation’s economy has been hobbled by the
longstanding closure of its borders with Azerbaijan and Turkey over
the conflict Nagorno-Karabakh.

VTB FILED USD 22 MILLION LAWSUIT AGAINST MIKHAIL BAGDASAROV

20:04, 29 March, 2013

YEREVAN, MARCH 29, ARMENPRESS: Debt of Armavia airlines to Russia for
provision of air navigation services reaches USD 288,000. As reports
Armenpress, this was reported by Gazeta.ru.

Russia’s civil aviation authority said Armavia has an outstanding
debt of $1.4 million to Moscow’s Vnukovo airport and smaller debts
to two other airports in southern Russia, Sochi and Krasnodar.

Armavia has also some debts to Russian banks, especially VTB. That was
the loan for the purchase of Russian-made Sukhoi superjet. Now VTB
tries to return the sum of money and filed USD 22 million lawsuit
against head of “Armavia” and “Mika Limited” companies Mikhail
Bagdasarov.

Armavia’s owner, Mikhail Bagdasarov, announced his intention to sell
the company last year, but has failed to find a buyer.

Armenia’s national air carrier “Armavia” air company made a decision
to suspend the flights starting from April 1, 2013. The air company
informed Armenpress that during the last three years the owner of
the company implemented funds from other enterprises belonging to him
aimed at the development of the Air Company. The situation became very
complicated and hence, a decision was made to suspend all the flights
and start the bankruptcy procedure. “Armavia” Air Company expresses
its gratitude to the whole its passengers, whom they worked with for
12 years.

Ani Lorak: I’ll Try To Give Concert In Yerevan Soon

ANI LORAK: I’LL TRY TO GIVE CONCERT IN YEREVAN SOON

MARCH 29, 19:26

By Marina Adulyan

The famous Ukrainian singer Ani Lorak always attracts hearts of the
audience with her charming appearance and fascinating voice. Men
adore her, women simply admire.

Ani Lorak appeared to be a person brimming with happiness. In an
interview with NEWS.am STYLE she revealed the secrets of her beautiful
figure, success and happiness.

What did you want to be when you were a child?

My mom told me the music in my life has been present since the day
I was born. I did not start uttering words but singing. Since four,
I knew I would be a singer. I was born in Kitsman, in the same house
where Vladimir Ivasyuk, famous Ukrainian composer, author of the song
“Chervona Ruta”, was born. Probably it was a sign that my dream will
come true.

My first audience was my neighbors. They did not understand why the
girl was singing on the street. They applauded, gave me candies. I
liked it when they were listening to me. I was ready to sing and
dance, just to win the attention of the audience. I liked to attract
attention since my childhood, and now I feel happy every time going on
stage and getting pleasure from the fact that my dream has come true.

Do you remember the time when you became popular?

Popularity did not come from heaven. It came gradually, it was
the result of my work. I remember the first token of glory after
the contest “Morning Star”, where I was named a new face of the
year. Then we released the album, shot a video and started tours. We
continued working. I received the Grand Prix of “Big Apple Music –
96” in New York then it was the second place at Eurovision 2008 where
I also received “Artistic Award Eurovision Song Contest.” Then, I was
named the People’s Artist of Ukraine by the president. Popularity is
not coming at once. It comes to those who work a lot and move toward
their goal.

What helped you to be successful?

In order to be successful, you have to be very persistent.

Fortunately, I realized this at an early age because I had to rely
only on myself. One day I came across the book “The Life of Beethoven:
A Struggle Against Fate” which said that a dash of talent is enough
but you need an ocean of persistence. This simple idea has become
my motto. There are many talented people, but only a few achieve
success – those who are not offended and do not give in before the
difficulties. If you have a dream, you can not retreat.

Who would you like to do a duet with?

It would be interesting to work with artists such as Ricky Martin
and Robbie Williams. I like the style of Beyonce, Adele and Jennifer
Lopez. I admire the talent of Whitney Houston. The last concert of
Madonna was fascinating. I also like the philosophy of Celine Dion.

She is a kind of person ready to help people. I would like to meet
her some day.

What is your favorite book and what book would you recommend reading?

I like reading and would recommend a series of books by Robin Sharma
“The Monk Who Sold His Ferrari”, “Leadership Wisdom From The Monk
Who Sold His Ferrari (Paperback)”, “The Saint The Surfer And The
CEO” and others. His philosophy is close to me and the books are
very instructive.

What clothes do you like wearing off stage? Do you have jeans and
T-shirts?

I’m a person wearing jeans, a white T-shirt, heels and minimum of
makeup. I am wearing the clothes in which I feel comfortable. The
main thing is to wear clothes in which I am who I am. But on stage I
am Shady Lady, a diva – always bright and eye-catching, with perfect
makeup and high heels.

You have a daughter. How do you manage to combine a career and being
a mom?

I honestly do not know how. This is sort of a secret to me. It is easy
necessary to combine, because I can not imagine my life without stage
and without my family. These are two small balls that are trying to
balance. If you get stuck on one ball, you lose the other. Constant
work and no rest – you must always be in balance. My zodiac sign is
Libra. For me it is important to have balance in everything.

Therefore, on one scale I have a family and the stage on the other. I
do suffer when I am far from the stage for a long time. This year I
will mark the 20th anniversary of my career on stage. First time I
appeared on stage during a festival in the town of Chernovtsi in 1993.

Since I was four, I had a clear understanding of my mission – to sing
and give people positive emotions.

What do you think can make a woman beautiful?

Love. Because you can wear a beautiful dress, have a nice makeup,
but if your eyes are not shining with love and interest, love for
others, it is unlikely that a woman will attract attention and will
be interesting. I strongly believe that true beauty is love. The
most beautiful woman is the one who lives in love, is able to give
and receive love.

Ani, do you have any beauty secrets? Can you share them?

I almost never eat bread. I can just eat a piece of rye bread if
I really want to. I do not eat much sweets. And the most important
is doing exercises every day, which I advise my friends. You can do
exercise lying on the bed when you just woke up. It is important not
to be lazy. There can be no excuses! I do it every day. Skip? No way!

Then I will respect myself. The most interesting is that it really
works. You feel how your body wakes up.

How do you like to dress your daughter?

Oh, I have cards of all children’s stores! We can not buy a single pair
of shoes, we just buy the entire collection. My daughter simply does
not have time to put on more than a half of the purchased clothes. So
I understand that shopping is more fun for mom, than for Sofia. But
when I see a beautiful silk dress, I can not resist! It is good that
there is someone to inherit my outfits. Some designer pieces, the
gifts of godparents, are so beautiful that you can hang them on the
wall as a piece of art. I think it is not that important for a child
at an early age to have shoes from Dior or a jacket from Versace. It
is nice to get such presents but I, personally, would not buy designer
clothes for kids.

Do you consider yourself a happy person? What is necessary to make
Ani Lorak happy?

I am a happy person. I thank God for what I have. To be happy you
need determination. Sometimes, people do not have a sense of gratitude
for what they already have. We often do not appreciate what we have,
do not understand that it is a gift to see the sun every day. All
this is happiness! When we realize that we can be happy, we will
feel the taste of happiness. Melody of happiness is always within us,
you only need to learn how to hear it.

Do you know anything about Yerevan? Are you planning to give concerts
here?

I know Armenians are very hospitable people, and Yerevan is a beautiful
city with wide avenues, green squares and parks. We will try to come
to your city with a great concert program in the near future, and of
course to learn more about the culture of your city.
