The new book written by Catholicos Aram I

LA CRESCENTS-Western Prelate Archbishop Moushegh Mardirossian, the
Religious and Executive Councils announced that on the occasion of
the Pontifical Visit of His Holiness Aram I, Catholicos of the Great
House of Cilicia, to the Western United States, the Western Prelacy
also has published the latest book authored by His Holiness titled
“Taking the Church to the People.”

The book consists of three parts. In the first part, Catholicos
Aram I describes the nature of the church, its mission and its
institutional expressions, including the parish, the dioceses and the
wider Armenian community in Armenia and the Diaspora. While describing
the organization of each, His Holiness suggests ways in which they
should be renewed.

In the second part our Pontiff identifies the core issues that the
Armenian Church is currently facing. He starts with the Bible as
the foundation of Christian faith and its interpretation; he then
discusses the family, the school and Christian education. At the end
of this section, Aram I explains the meaning of the term “people of
God” and explains why Armenian women, youth and children, who have
been marginalized in the Church and all community organizations,
should participate in building their communities.

In the final part of the book, the Catholicos includes certain
pastoral letters and messages that he has previously addressed to
youth in order to prompt a meaningful dialogue with them.

The book is a basic reader for all Armenians who want to learn about
the Armenian Church and its faith, mission and organization. It is
an invitation to the people in Armenia and the Diaspora to equip
themselves with the legacy of the past and build Armenian communities
responsive to the challenges of globalization. Finally, it is a guide
to being the Church as the people of God both in Armenia and Diaspora.

Lettre Ouverte Au President De La Republique Francaise

LETTRE OUVERTE AU PRESIDENT DE LA REPUBLIQUE FRANCAISE
Jean Eckian

Erevan (Armenie) – Akhalkalak (Georgie)

Sarkozy Urged Turkey To Recognise Armenia ‘Genocide’

SARKOZY URGED TURKEY TO RECOGNISE ARMENIA ‘GENOCIDE’

Updated News

Canada

FRANCE – French President Nicolas Sarkozy on Thursday urged Turkey
to take responsibility for the 1915 massacre of Armenians, calling
its refusal to recognise the deaths as genocide as “unacceptable”.

Sarkozy’s comments, issued at the start of his first state visit to
Armenia, whose diaspora represents a large voting minority in France,
come months before a presidential election which he heads into with
approval ratings at a low.

“Turkey, which is a great country, would be honorable to revisit
its history like the other great countries in the world have done:
Germany, France,” Sarkozy said at the top of a two-day, three nation
swing through the Caucasus.

France has recognised mass killings of Armenians in the Ottoman empire
as genocide a decade ago, a bold step that pressure from Turkey has
prevented in countries with a large Armenian diaspora such as the
United States.

Turkey says those killed were the victims of war, and has downgraded
relations with nations that dared to disagree.

Sarkozy however left no room for ambiguity after visiting the National
Genocide Museum in Armenian capital to pay respect to the massacre
victims and plant a tree in the memorial garden.

“The genocide of Armenians is a historic reality that was recognised
by France. Collective denial is even worse than individual denial,” he
said at a joint appearance with Armenian counterpart Serge Sarkisyan.

“We are always stronger when we look our history in the face, and
denial is not acceptable.”

Asked whether France should adopt a law prosecuting anyone who denies
that the massacres were “genocide”, Sarkozy replied that “if Turkey
revisited its history, looked it in the face, with its shadows and
highlights, this recognition of the genocide would be sufficient.”

“But if Turkey will not do this, then without a doubt it would be
necessary to go further,” he said.

Sarkozy angered Turkey ahead of his election in 2007 by backing a
law aimed at prosecuting those who refused to recognise the event as
a genocide.

The French lower house of parliament later rejected the measure,
infuriating an Armenian diaspora of some 500,000 people.

Sarkozy has also indicated his ambition to bring Armenia and
neighbouring Azerbaijan forward in the stalled peace process over
the tiny Nagorny Karabakh region.

But just as the French leader urged the two rivals to “take the risk
of peace” in an interview on Wednesday, pro-Armenian authorities that
control Karabakh said a soldier was killed by Azerbaijani forces.

Baku responded Thursday with the accusation that two soldiers were
shot dead from the Armenian side.

Seventeen soldiers have now been reported killed this year along the
ceasefire line in Karabakh. Armenian separatists backed by Yerevan
seized the territory from Azerbaijan in a war in the 1990s that left
some 30,000 dead.

Despite years of talks since the 1994 ceasefire, the two sides have
still to sign a final peace deal.

Sarkozy was to dine with Sarkisyan later Thursday and continue his
tour of Caucasus states Azerbaijan and Georgia on Friday.

Armenian Soldier Killed Near Karabakh: Ministry

ARMENIAN SOLDIER KILLED NEAR KARABAKH: MINISTRY

Agence France Presse
October 5, 2011 Wednesday 5:03 PM GMT

Azerbaijani forces have killed an Armenian soldier on the front line
in Nagorny Karabakh, the pro-Armenian authorities that control the
disputed region said on Wednesday.

The Armenian soldier was hit in the head and killed while stationed
at his military outpost, the separatist Karabakh defence ministry
said in a statement.

“This shows that Azerbaijan not only holds in contempt the
international community’s calls for respect of the peace process,
but also puts the region’s fragile stability under threat,” the
statement said.

The soldier, whose identity was not revealed, was the 15th serviceman
to be killed this year amid continued tensions over the mountainous
region.

Ethnic Armenian separatists backed by Yerevan seized Nagorny Karabakh
from Azerbaijan in a conflict in the 1990s that left around 30,000
dead.

Azerbaijan has repeatedly threatened to use force to win back
Karabakh if internationally mediated peace negotiations do not
yield satisfactory results, while Yerevan has warned of large-scale
retaliation if Baku launches any military action.

NAGORNO-KARABAKH IS INDEPENDENT STATE AND THAT MUST BE ACKNOWLEDGED – CHARLES AZNAVOUR

PARIS. – Nagorno-Karabakh is as much an independent country as Armenia
or Azerbaijan and it must be acknowledged, said world-famous singer,
Armenian Ambassador to Switzerland Charles Aznavour in an exclusive
interview to Nouvelles d`Armenie.

“Did Karabakh belong to Azerbaijan whether before Stalin gave it to
them? Is Karabakh a part of Armenia? Obviously not,” said Aznavour,
adding this it is an integral part of the situation.

With regard to the Armenian-Turkish relations and the position of
France in this regard, Aznavour said that France would do nothing
for the Armenians.

“I do not believe that France will do anything for us. Turkey is too
important for France and we shouldn’t disregard this. France always
takes to the strong side but when the time comes to act, everything
changes. We have waited for 90 years. The Armenian question was
highlighted in books, various people got critical insights into it
but the issue remains unsolved. Do you wait for a miracle today,
when there are so many circumstances against it? You can be utopian
but you cannot afford to dream that much,” Aznavour said.

According to him, he himself never dreams and his whole life is a
proof for that.

“I’ve worked. I am not a politician. I have neither frame of mind,
nor specific art of speaking to express my beliefs. But I have the
courage to say what I think!” Charles Aznavour concluded.

YEREVAN. – Armenia’s Armed Forces on Wednesday took punitive actions
against Azerbaijani subdivisions and, as a result, two Azerbaijani
servicemen were killed.

Armenia’s Armed Forces launch punitive operations after each
provocation by Azerbaijani snipers, MOD Press Secretary Davit
Karapetyan told Armenian News-NEWS.am. “And if there are losses from
the Azerbaijani side as a result of those punitive operations, the
whole responsibility falls on Azerbaijan,” he noted.

According to Azerbaijani media, 20-year-old soldier Novruz Aliyev
and 22-year-old sergeant Suleyman Askerov were killed after a fire
exchange in the direction of Terter and Tovus regions.

“On the average, the adversary violates the ceasefire 40-50 times
each day. And it has considerably increased ceasefire violations in
the past week,” Davit Karapetyan stated.

As Armenian News-NEWS.am reported earlier, Karabakh Defense Army’s
24-year-old soldier Yuri Sargsyan was killed, on Wednesday at 5
p.m., at an eastern military unit of the Karabakh-Azerbaijani line
of contact. Sargsyan had received a severe wound to his head.

And at Armenia’s border also on the same day, conscripts Henrik
Khachatryan (born in 1992) and Khachatur Sukiasyan (born in 1992)
were injured by sniper shots at 12.50 p.m. at Chinari village of
Armenia’s Tavush Region. The Armenian side has launched an inquiry.

Davit Karapetyan also informed that the wounded soldiers are
transferred to Armenian capital Yerevan’s Central Hospital. They
are recovering.

“So I’ve a question for the Turks, if it’s not Genocide, if it’s not
annihilation of a nation, thenwhat is it? How have you called that
phenomenon?” in an interview with “Nouvelles d’Armenie” said renowned
French Armenian singer and Armenian Ambassador to Switzerland Charles
Aznavour. He has urged the Turks if they don’t want to recognize the
Armenian Genocide, they could at least accept that in 1915 Armenian
massacres happened.

“So this is what I say – before using the term Genocide, how do you
call it – massacre, massacre of Armenians? If you don’t want to use
the term Genocide, accept it is a massacre. I think we’ll have a long
road passed if we achieve it,” said Charles Aznavour.

According to him having stopped on the term of Genocide Armenia won’t
move on.

“Armenia is really endangered and everybody is concentrated on this
term. I cannot understand how Armenia can advance in such conditions.

Where are my critics? What do they do to help Armenia? When do they
send money to Armenia? Are they to teach me? I must teach them. In
US I talked with an Armenian lawyer who employs 300 lawyers. He was
thinking like the others, but when I explained my opinion, he said
I was right,” Aznavour told the paper.

MILITARY EXPERT: AZERBAIJAN FACES SERIOUS PROBLEMS IN INFORMATION WAR

“We’re convinced that Azerbaijan cannot and is unwilling to solve
problems in a civilized way. It’s doubtless that it’s been specially
organized. A planned firing planned and organized by the snipers.

Although Azerbaijan snipers don’t always differ from the professional
viewpoint,” said military expert Artsrun Hovhannisyan to Panorama.am
referring to the killing of a Defense Army soldier by Azerbaijani
sniper and injuring of another two Armenian soldiers again by the
Azeri snipers.

According to the expert, the perfect results performed by the Armenian
Army in Astrakhan trainings, shooting of Azeri UAV and the Armenian
military parade have deeply hurt Azerbaijan’s fake propaganda and
created serious problems for their information war. “There is a
political factor also – the French President arrives in Armenia,
Azerbaijan is putting forth efforts to boycott the Minsk Group
activities,” said the expert.

“They miscount that in the aftermath of the Armenian counterattack they
will have immense losses. Although they will not declare about it soon,
we’ll see it. We know quite well the Azeri methods,” said the expert.
