HEAD OF AAC IRAQI DIOCESE INSPECTS ARMENIAN CHURCH CONSTRUCTION IN N. IRAQ

PanARMENIAN.Net – Earlier this month His Eminence Archbishop Avak
Asadourian, Primate of the Armenian Diocese of Iraq, paid a pastoral
visit to the autonomous region of Kurdistan in Northern Iraq, mainly to
inspect the work of a new church which is being built in the village
of Havresk (Hye Verejh) in the province of Duhok.

According to The Armenian Weekly, Archbishop Asadourian traveled to
the village of Havresk and met with the residents of the village in
the “Levon Pasha” hall. During the meeting the Primate listened to
the villagers and offered some solutions to their concerns.

His Eminence also visited the Armenian Communities of Erbil and Duhok
cities in a non-official capacity and delivered the sermon during
the Divine Liturgy celebrated in the St. Nersess Shenorhali Armenian
church in Duhok city.

Due to a state of insecurity, especially in Baghdad and Mosul cities
since 2003, the Armenian communities in Iraq have been experiencing
inner migration as is the case with other Christian denominations
and minorities. As a consequence, a number of Armenians relocated to
the Kurdish autonomous region of Iraq. Hence, the Armenian Diocese
of Iraq is faced with the obligation and Christian duty of building
new churches for the faithful.

The new house of worship is being built through a generous donation
by the Association of churches in Germany and Switzerland, with the
able coordination of CAPNI Foundation. The Diocese is appreciative
of this Christian act of extending a helping hand.

During his visit, His Eminence supervised the progress of the work
and offered details pertaining to arrangements specific to the
Mother church.

It is important to note that due to limited funding the church was
not built in an entirely Armenian architectural style. The church is
expected to be completed early next year.

His Eminence was accompanied by the parish priests of the churches
of Zakho and Duhok, Fr. Artoon Khalatian and Fr. Masis Shahinian
respectively. Also, accompanying Archbishop Asadourian were two parish
council members from Erbil.

Returning to Erbil, His Eminence presented his condolences to the
families and relatives of two recently departed Armenian men on
Saturday and Sunday August 6th and 7th in the community center.

ARF-D OFFICIAL COMMENTS ON WEST AMERICA CENTRAL COMMITTEE’S STATEMENT

The West American central committee of Armenian Revolutionary
Federation Dashnaktsutyun (ARF-D) issued a strongly worded statement.

In the statement the ARF-D refuses to take part in the dinner party
to be held in Los Angeles, California, U.S., on the occasion of the
20th anniversary of Armenia’s independence. A number of media outlets
asked the ARF-D press office for comments on the statement. The ARF-D
press office reported comments by Giro Manoyan, Head of the ARF-D
Hay Dat office.

The statement reflects the central committee’s stance. Armenia is
facing numerous problems. However, the 20th anniversary cements
“our common achievements,” says the comment.

“At such high-level functions, we have no right to be guided by
unformed relations and emotions. Following our principles, we must
take the chance to show our unity by means of such events.”

NAGORNO-KARABAKH CAN BE WORLD’S FIRST ‘SUN POWER’ COUNTRY, ARMENIAN SCIENTIST SAYS

At his meeting with journalists, Doctor of Technical Sciences Vahan
Amazaspyan, who is author of helioenergetics programs in Armenia,
said that Armenia “has no energy resources, has serious economic,
unemployment and migration problems. We are in a deep crisis.”

He pointed out the need for developing alternative energy as an
industry in Armenia to ease the crisis and enable Armenia to enter
the international market.

The Armenian government is rather indifferent to the alternative
energy development program. “They either ignore or fail to understand
our program,” he said.

The government allotted land under the program in Abovyan. However,
the incumbent minister of education and science decided to stop
the program.

“We plan to construct the first helio-system producing plant there and
we are negotiating with Belarus. One of my fellow workers has met with
Mikhail Gorbachev, who founded the Green Cross International NGO. He
has signed our letter and is willing to invest,” the scientist said.

He expects only legal and technical assistance from the Armenian
government. The building for the plant and $8 million investment are
available. “We will resolve the financial problems, we only want the
government to create favorable conditions, especially as it meets
national interests. Our population must have an alternative for
overcoming unfavorable situations,” Amazaspyan said.

He also said that the plant expected to be constructed in Spitak
will generate as much energy in 80 days as the Armenian nuclear-power
plant generates a day.

“Our top priority task is to make Nagorno-Karabakh the world’s first
‘sun power’ country,” Amazaspyan said.

TBILISI: Azerbaijan Optimistic About Possible Military Action In Kar

AZERBAIJAN OPTIMISTIC ABOUT POSSIBLE MILITARY ACTION IN KARABAKH

The Messenger
Aug 18, 2011
Georgia

Eldar Sadiroglu, head of the press service of Azerbaijan Defence
Ministry, has stated that in case of military confrontation in
Karabakh, Azerbaijan would succeed in a short period of time. These
comments from the Azeri side came soon after the statement of Armenian
minister of Defence Movses Akopian which said that if there was a
resumption of military actions Armenia would definitely win. The
Azeri spokesman stated that Armenia’s claim that they would win the
war was merely an Armenian attempt to calm their people and create
confidence in their position. In reality Armenian society is in a panic
because they are very scared by the increasing Azeri army potential,
particularly its new armaments.

80% Of Supermarkets In Armenia Are ‘Conventional Shops’

80% OF SUPERMARKETS IN ARMENIA ARE ‘CONVENTIONAL SHOPS’

Tert.am
18.08.11

A former Armenian Prime Minister Hrant Bagratyan has condemned a recent
decision by the Yerevan Municipality to dismantle kiosks in Yerevan.

Speaking at a news conference on Thursday, Bagratyan said that about
80 per cent of supermarkets in Yerevan do not meet the requirements
to be qualified as supermarkets.

“Today, 80 per cent of supermarkets opened in Yerevan work just as
conventional shops. There are no supermarkets there,” said Bagratyan.

In his words, it is the state that regulates the quality of
supermarkets and shops so that to keep balance and avoid the formation
of oligopolies.

“Once requirements are set against supermarkets, half of them will
close down,” he explained.

Further, Bagratyan said that whole sale trade is a tool at the hands
of the state to curb rising prices in retail. However, “when the
supermarkets win, become oligopolies, it again brings about inflation”.

“It is clearly regulated. There is no state that does not regulate
that figure between whole sale and retail trade,” explained Bagratyan.

When the state sees that the supermarkets are on the increase,
according to him, it toughens the requirements which lead to the
closing down of some of them and keeping a balance.

Azerbaijani Foreign Ministry is probing reports about article in the
Italian magazine EURASIA.Rivista di Studi Geopolitici.

The article reportedly contains untrue information about
Armenia-Azerbaijan Nagorno-Karabakh conflict.

The statement came from press officer of the Azerbaijani Foreign
Ministry Elman Abdullayev.

According to Armenian media, Italian magazine EURASIA.Rivista di Studi
Geopolitici has published an article claiming separatist regime in
Nagorno-Karabakh is legal and which also contains untrue information.

In an article titled “Nagorno-Karabakh crisis: Historical restoration
and perspectives”, author Giuliano Luongo misleads his readers
asserting that Nagorno-Karabakh was handed over to Azerbaijan by the
Soviet government and that a referendum on this area was held on the
basis of USSR legislation.

The article is one sided and reflects only the views of the Armenian
side on the conflict resolution.
