Corent AM Company Envisages To Provide Services With Use Of Mimax Te

CORENT AM COMPANY ENVISAGES TO PROVIDE SERVICES WITH USE OF MiMAX TECHNOLOGY ALL OVER ARMENIA STARTING FROM 2008

Noyan Tapan
Feb 08 2007

YEREVAN, FEBRUARY 8, NOYAN TAPAN. It is envisaged that by late 2008
Cornet AM provider company owned by the Russian-British company
Callnet will be able to provide broadband wireless Internet services
all over Armenia. Director General of Cornet CJSC Boris Demirkhanian
said this during a talk with NT correspondent. According to him,
Armenia is the first post-Soviet country to introduce and operate a
network with the use of WiMAX technology. He noted that Cornet AM
started the pilot program on formation of a WiMAX network in June
2006 when the first base station was installed in Yerevan, which
actually created the opportunity to ensure wireless Internet access
in Yerevan. In the words of B. Demirkhanian, Cornet AM currently
provides this service to 70 users.

The reason for such a small number of users is that the cost price of
connecting to the network makes about 1,000 USD. The user’s terminal
device makes up large part of this sum. The director general said that
the current number of users has been ensured thanks to crediting 60%
of the connection cost.

However, B. Demirkhanian hopes that further investments of Cornet
will contribute to an increase in the number of users. "In 2007, it
is envisaged to install 10 base broadcasting stations in Yerevan,
which will allow to secure user connection with cheaper equipment
without any negatice impact on quality."

According to forecasts of Cornet AM’s director general, the WiMAX
access connection price is expected not to exceed 100 thousand drams
in 2008, which will result in a decline of connection devices’ prices,
while the number of users will grow up to 10 thousand. He explained
such expectations by the current number of 100 thousand Internet users
in Armenia, some of whom, in case of improving Internet access thanks
to WiMAX, will prefer this service.

L’Extremisme Turc Ne Doit Pas Gagner La Suisse

L’EXTREMISME TURC NE DOIT PAS GAGNER LA SUISSE

Le Temps, Suisse
7 fevrier 2007

Armenia Is No More A Transitional Country

ARMENIA IS NO MORE A TRANSITIONAL COUNTRY

Today the agreement about the construction of the railway
Kars-Akhalqalaq-Tbilisi-Baku will be signed in Tbilisi with the
participation of Georgian President Michael Sahakashvili, Turkish
Prime Minister Reel Tanya Erdogan and Azeri President Ilham Aliev.

Official Yerevan treats the construction of the railway bypassing
Armenia negatively. Economist Edward Aghajanov considers it negative
too.

– It is really too bad. Factually, we are left out of all the regional
projects. It is really very dangerous, as if we want to be integrated
into the world, we must first be integrated into our own region.

– The US Congress has prohibited the Government the financially assist
the construction of this railway.

But that did not hinder the construction. Why do you think the USA
did not hinder it?

– The USA could not hinder the construction as it is the business
of sovereign countries. That is, Turkey, Georgia and Azerbaijan are
independent countries which have decided to construct a railway. It
is ridiculous to think that the USA could hinder them.

– How will the construction of the railway affect the economy of
Armenia?

– It will naturally harm our economy. The opening of the railway
Kars-Gyumri would be a serious impetus to the development of our
economy as Armenia would become a transitional country for everyone,
even for Russia.

With the construction of this one, Kars-Gyumri won’t be interesting for
anyway. Factually, we are deprived of the chance to be a transitional
country.

– It this another act of blockade against Armenia?

– It is not blockading. It is our final outcasting from the regional
projects. That is the most dangerous thing. It is noteworthy that
it’s the policy of Azerbaijan.

– Now what shall Armenia do?

– Armenia must have an active policy, and not a passive one. Factually,
we answered challenges instead of being active and diplomatically
aggressive. That it why this situation was created.

THERE WILL BE MORE WOMEN DEPUTIES AT NEW NATIONAL ASSEMBLY THAN AT PREVIOUS ONE, HERMINE NAGHDALIAN FORECASTS

Noyan Tapan
Feb 08 2007

YEREVAN, FEBRUARY 8, NOYAN TAPAN. Today rather many women are
involved in the public sector of Armenia, while their number is
much less in the political sphere. RA National Assembly RPA faction
member Hermine Naghdalian expressed such an opinion at the February
8 press conference. In her words, women themselves should struggle
for becoming a participant to political processes and should do this
"first of all by creating a political biography." And increasing
the number of women artificially in parties’ electoral rolls, which
is envisaged by the amended Electoral Code, in H.Naghdalian’s words,
will give no result. At the same time she said that from one election
to another the Republican Party more and more often nominates women’s
candidatures. As H.Naghdalian forecast, the number of women deputies
will increase at NA after the May 12 elections. She also said that she
will run for the parliamentary elections by RPA’s list. Touching upon
holding the elections freely and fairly, H.Naghdalian assured that for
holding really democratic elections RPA "will do its best." The MP also
advised to do the same to everybody, both to politicians and to press.

M. BRYZA: ARMENIAN AND AZERI FOREIGN MINISTERS SHOULD NOT MEET SO OFTEN

PanARMENIAN.Net
08.02.2007 14:13 GMT+04:00

/PanARMENIAN.Net/ A meeting between Azeri and Armenian foreign
ministers may take place at the end of February or beginning of
March. It depends on their schedule, stated OSCE MG Co-Chair Matthew
Bryza. "And generally, they should not meet so often. Main thing is
spirit of good during talks. I think it exists.

Every time when the sides meet, we see progress. When the ministers
met in Moscow and exchanged views, they a little approached in their
stances on general principals. It means, that there exists progress
and it is impossible to reach more progress without such meetings,"
he stressed. Asked that the society cannot get enough information
about negotiations, the American diplomat stated, "Concrete talks
are carried out, but we should not speak about it publicly, since it
will lead to politicization of the negotiations. I think, you should
trust your ministers."

Alongside Matthew Bryza underlined he does not agree with statements
that parliamentary elections in Armenia in 2007 and presidential
elections in Armenia and Azerbaijan in 2008 will impede the solution
of the Nagorno Karabakh conflict. "I do not agree with that.

I think elections are complex elements of this procedure. But from
the other side, talks continue even now. May be the president will
not meet till parliamentary elections in Armenia, but the ministers
continue the talks," he underscored, ‘Trend’ reports.

On The Train To Saigon

ON THE TRAIN TO SAIGON
By Tony Henderson Environment Editor, The Journal

THE JOURNAL (Newcastle, UK)
February 7, 2007 Wednesday
Edition 1

>>From Wearside to Warsaw – that’s the first leg in a rail trip which
will take three travellers from Sunderland to Saigon in Vietnam.

The journey is from Monkwearmouth Station Museum to Saigon – now Ho
Chi Minh City – the furthest city that can be reached from Sunderland
by train.

Tyne and Wear Museums educational worker Jennie Beale, 31, from Albany
in Washington, is travelling with film crew Jon Pegler and Kate Harvest
on the 9,300-mile train journey, the story of which will be the first
exhibition at the Grade II-star listed Monkwearmouth museum when it
reopens in the summer after a £1m refit.

The travellers stopped in Cologne in Germany where they took a taxi
to their hostel.

Jennie says: "At 3am four rowdy Moroccan boys, who we found out
later had been partying in Cologne after exams, rolled into the dorm
and woke us all up with their drunken antics. Not much sleep for us
intrepid travellers."

After a halt in Berlin, it was on to Poland.

"In the Stadium market in Warsaw we bought our breakfast of kebab
fingers from a small green hut, and the owners told us they were not
Polish, but Armenian.

"The market was full of official and unofficial traders, working
every day in the cold, snowy conditions, with flapping blue canvases
on their scanty stalls.

"The run down stadium where the market was sited, was actually made
from the rubble of Warsaw after the Second World War.

"Many stall holders were Russian and Armenian, making the best living
they could in Poland. It looked like a very tough life.

"The Palace of Culture and Science stands in the centre of Warsaw,
a grand building inspired by the Empire State Building in New York. It
stands at 231 metres tall, the tallest building in Poland.

Originally commissioned by Stalin as a `gift from the Soviet people,
now it is a centre for culture and has cinemas, conference facilities
and a winter ice skating rink.

"Met Olga, who works as a tourist guide in Warsaw. She studied in
Sunderland for six months in 1994, under Professor Derek Blair from
Sunderland University’s Environmental Science department. Olga treated
us to coffee and cakes and we chatted about Poland.

"A striking fact is that 85% of Warsaw was destroyed in the Second
World War, and many of the buildings have been reconstructed to their
original design, a process which continues to this day.

"The beautiful Old Town with the Royal Castle was completed in 1984."
