ARMENIA AND AZERBAIJAN WILL HARDLY FOLLOW CLINTON’S CALLS – AMERICAN EXPERT

During the visit to the South Caucasus U.S. State Secretary Hillary
Clinton will hold several interesting debates, Senior Research Fellow
for Russian and Eurasian Studies and International Energy Policy
Ariel Cohen wrote in his article dedicated to Clinton’s visit.

According to the expert, the main theme on the agenda will be the
Karabakh conflict. Cohen calls the conflict a ‘gunpowder barrel’
which is ready to explode in the South Caucasus.

Cohen considers, however, that it is not likely that Azerbaijan and
Armenia will follow Clinton’s calls.

PHOTOS OF ARMENIAN-TURKISH BORDER TO BE EXHIBITED IN TURKEY

YEREVAN, JUNE 1, ARMENPRESS: On the joint initiative of Hrant Dink
Foundation, Free Press Unlimited and Youth Initiatives Center in
Gyumri, an exhibition of Armenian and Turkish photographers will open
July 1-30 in Galata, Istanbul.

The photo exhibition entitled “Behind Expectation… Stories from
Armenian Turkish Border” will present the Armenian-Turkish border,
Armenpress reports citing “Akos” newspaper published in Istanbul.

The implementation of the project has started still in 2011 summer,
when some Armenian and Turkish photographers decided to take photos
of the everyday life, expectations of people living in Kars and Gyumri
towns situated adjacent to the Armenian-Turkish border.

According to the authors of the project, their goal is to promote
activation of the Armenian-Turkish dialogue.

“We need to understand and to hear each other. People that are so
near and at the same time so far from each other…, ” said Turkish
photographer Volkan Doghar, who has been to Gyunri for some time
for photographing.

The parties added that the similar projects are very valuable and
expressed readiness to implement suchlike initiatives in future
as well.

PM TIGRAN SARGSYAN TO VISIT THE KINGDOM OF BELGIUM

The delegation headed by Prime Minister Tigran Sargsyan will visit
the Kingdom of Belgium June 3-4. PM Tigran Sargsyan will visit the
IBA molecular company, where an agreement of cooperation will be
signed with the Armenian Ministry of Economy.

Tigran Sargsyan will make a speech at the Center for European Policy
Studies (CEPS). Within the framework of the visit PM Tigran Sargsyan
is expected to meet with the President of the European People’s Party
Wilfred Martens and participate in the political consultations of
the EPP.

The delegation comprises the head of government staff David Sargsyan,
acting Minister of Economy Tigran Davtyan, acting Minister of Education
and Science Armen Ashotyan, Chairman of the National Assembly’s
Standing Committee on Foreign Relations Artak Zakaryan, Executive
Director of the Armenian Competitiveness Foundation Arman Khachatryan.

SWITZERLAND SECOND COUNTRY ON INVESTMENTS VOLUMES IN ARMENIA

YEREVAN. – The flow of investments in Armenia made $148.7 million from
January to March, which is increase by 13.9 percent, as compared to
the same period of last year, Armenian National Statistical Service
reports. According to the report, main investing countries in Armenian
economy include Russia, Switzerland and France.

Russia is the greatest investing country with $26.6 million for the
first quarter of this year. Majority of the investments amounting
to $22.8 million was in the field of telecommunications (two out of
three mobile operators in Armenia, including ArmenTel and VivaCell
operate based on the Russian capital).

As for Switzerland, the country occupies the second place on
investments for the first time. The Swiss RARE SA Company has invested
$20.5 million in constructing a plant of fresh and mineral drinking
waters in Artavaz village of Armenia’s Kotayk Region. The real owner
of the company is a Saudi sheikh.

38 CASES OF AIDS AND 73 OF HIV REGISTERED IN ARMENIA FOR JAN-APR 2012

The total of 38 cases of AIDS and 73 of HIV have been registered in
Armenia for Jan-Apr 2012.

So, the number of AIDS and HIV cases grew versus the same period of
2011 (38 against 34 and 73 against 69 respectively), Armenian National
Statistics Service reported.

“GOLDEN APRICOT” TO CELEBRATE ANDREY TARKOVSKIY’S ANNIVERSARY

The International film festival “Golden apricot” will celebrate the
80th anniversary of the prominent film maker Andrey Tarkovskiy,
director of the festival’s programmes, Mikhael Stamboltsyan, said at
today’s press-conference.

The films made by Tarkovskiy as well as the films about him will be
demonstrated during the festival.

The 85th anniversary of Frunze Dovlatyan and the 90th anniversary of
Yuri Erznkyan will be also celebrated over the festival. In
particular, films made by Erznkyan’s students will be involved in a
separate programme, including Harutyun Khachatryan’s “Kond” and Gagik
Harutyunyan’s “Yakhushta”.

IX International Film Festival “Golden Apricot” will be held on 8- 15
July in Yerevan.

THE COOPERATION BETWEEN YEREVAN AND EL-KUWAIT WILL BE DEEPENED

YEREVAN, JUNE 1, ARMENPRESS: Armenian ambassador in Kuwait Fadey
Charchoxlyan was hosted by the state governor of Kuwait capital
city El-Kuwait sheikh Ali Jaber al-Sabah. As the department of
media, information and public relation of MFA informed Armenpress,
the meeting was marked by the discussion regarding the promotion of
cooperation between the capitals of both countries and the prospects
for expansion. The Armenian ambassador offered to start working on
creating and deepening the relations with the Yerevan municipality,
mentioning , that the creation of legal base in this sphere and
the activation of mutual visits’ level may lead to the deepening of
cooperation between both capital cities.

For his part, Sheikh Ali Jaber al-Sabah said, that an invitation has
been sent to the Mayor of Yerevan on visiting Kuwait, which will lay
bases for a new level of cooperation between Yerevan municipality
and El-Kuwait provincial body.

At the end of the meeting, the state governor spoke about
Armenian-Kuwaiti community with a great praise, valuing the devotion
of Armenians and their willingness to share a common destiny with
the Kuwaiti people.

KIRO MANOYAN DOES NOT ANTICIPATE ANY PROGRESS IN THE NAGORNO-KARABAKH CONFLICT SETTLEMENT IN NEAR FUTURE

defeated if the war begins. This country is not ready for solving the
problem by the military means. Armenpress was informed about this
from the director of Armenian Cause and political affairs’ office

there won’t be any significant shifts in the peaceful settlement of
Nagorno- Karabakh conflict. What refers to the next steps of OSCE
Minsk Group, Manoyan mentioned that they would be mainly directed to
the neutralizing the threat of war.

EU REPRESENTATIVE URGES NOT TO CONNECT WITH EACH OTHER ARMENIAN-TURKISH RELATIONS AND NAGORNO-KARABAKH CONFLICT SETTLEMENT

YEREVAN, JUNE 1, ARMENPRESS: Connecting with each other the processes
of Nagorno-Karabakh conflict settlement and Armenian-Turkish relations
can be harmful for both processes. Armenpress reports that such
announcement made EU Special Representative on South Caucasus and
crisis in Georgia Phillip Lefort during the meeting with students on
June 1.

“The settlement of Armenian-Turkish relations can have very positive
influence for the whole region but it should not be connected with
Nagorno-Karabakh conflict” said Lefort.

EU special representative hoped that both problems would find their
solutions and stressed that EU was ready to help by investing measures
of building confidence.

POLICE COLONEL DETAINED

On June 1, deputy head of the Traffic Police department dealing with
registration of applications for driving license exam Colonel Arsen
Kyureghyan was caught while accepting a bribe. Kyureghyan asked AMD
150 thousand for issuing a driving license without the mandatory
exams. Criminal proceedings have been launched.
