LARGE DEPOSIT OF NATURAL BUILDING STONE DISCOVERED IN KARABAKH

August 13, 2013 | 10:32

STEPANAKERT. – A new deposit of natural building stone has been
discovered in Nagorno-Karabakh, adviser to the president of the
Nagorno-Karabakh Republic on geology said.

Grigory Gabrielyants noted that Geological Service of NKR discovered
and explored deposits of marbleized limestone, tuff and dacite porphyry
over the last two years.

“Non-metallic mineral exploration is one of the target programs of
Karabakh government. We have to provide the republic with its own
construction base,” he told Armenian News-NEWS.am.

The field of marbleized limestone is estimated at millions of cubic
meters.

“Our state committee on reserves has not made an official estimate
of resources for exploration of non-metallic minerals. Therefore,
we have not yet issued the license. However, the private sector is
interested in this white stone. Due to its characteristics, it can
become competitive not only within the limits of Armenia and Artsakh,
but also on foreign markets,” Gabrielyants said.

1945-1983. La flotte française au secours des Arméniens 1909-1915.

Vers l’an 120 après J.-C., l’empereur romain Adrien envoie 16 000

Turkish wrestler faces FILA penalty for racist tweets

11 August 2013 /TODAY’S ZAMAN, İSTANBUL

Turkish wrestler and Olympic medalist Rıza Kayaalp was banned by the
International Federation of Associated Wrestling Styles (FILA) from
international competition for six months over racist tweets about
Armenians and Gezi Park protesters.

The Gezi Park protests began on May 27 as a peaceful sit-in in
İstanbul’s Gezi Park against a government plan to demolish the park to
make way for a replica of the Ottoman-era Topçu Barracks, part of a
larger-scale renovation project for Taksim square. Kayaalp tweeted
hateful messages about the protesters, which sparked outrage on social
media.

`You just leave the streets to Armenians, you f**ing looters’ and
`F**k you traitors’ were among his more controversial posts. In a less
coherent tweet, he said, `Shame on you left your square Armenians
Greek marauders God damnit activist dogs.’

Kayaalp’s comments drew strong great reactions from the protesters,
and in a statement on the issue he claimed the Twitter account did not
belong to him. The IOC and FİLA received many complaints about
Kayaalp’s tweets.

According to the daily Habertürk, FİLA made its decision on the case
three weeks ago and has now confirmed it to Kayaalp. The body ruled
that Kayaalp’s tweets were racist attacks on the Armenian people and
banned him from competition for six months.

Kayaalp will be ineligible to attend international competitions until
Jan. 11, 2014, ruling out the World Wrestling Championships set to
take place in Hungary from Sept. 16 to 22. The Turkish wrestler hasn’t
appealed the ruling so far.

European and World champion Kayaalp, who also won a bronze medal at
the Olympic Games in London last year, carried the Turkish flag in the
opening ceremony of the 2013 Mediterranean Games, held in Mersin,
Turkey, last June.

State Commission: If the Armenian soldier captured by the Azerbaijani
side wants to return to Armenia, he will be sent back

[ 10 August 2013 11:30 ]

Shahin Sayilov: `Officials of the International Committee of the Red
Cross will meet with the captive in the coming days’

Baku. Shahriyar Alizadeh – APA. The Armenian serviceman, who was
captured while trying to pass the part of the contact line controlled
by the Azerbaijani Army, has been taken to Baku.

Secretary of the State Commission for Prisoners of War, Missing
Persons, and Hostages Affairs Secretary Shahin Sayilov told APA that
the reason why Armenian servicemen passed the contact line is being
specified.

`He has no documents. He said his name is Gevorkovich Injigulyan. But
some websites write his name and surname incorrectly. At present, he
is held at the Defense Ministry in Baku’, noted Sayilov.

Sayilov mentioned that officials of the International Committee of the
Red Cross (ICRC) would meet with the captive in the coming days:
`Azerbaijani representation of the ICRC does not work due to Ramadan
holiday. Therefore, they have not met with the captive yet. Probably,
the issue of his return to Armenia will also be discussed. If he wants
to return to Armenia, he will be sent back. Everything will depend on
his desire. Committee officials take into account the desire of the
captive’.

On the night of August 7-8, two servicemen of Armenian armed units
passed the part of the contact line controlled by the Azerbaijani Army
in the direction of Aghdam frontline.

`Defense Ministry’ of the separatist regime, which has occupied
Azerbaijani territories, has confirmed the fact that Armenian soldier
passed the part of the contact line controlled by the Azerbaijani
Army.

Press service of the `Defense Ministry’ said that on the night of
August 7-8, at about 3 am, soldier Akop Gevorkovich Injigulyan, 22,
got lost and stepped onto the territory controlled by the Azerbaijani
Army.

Native leaders’ talk of genocide just fuels anger

Native leaders’ talk of genocide just fuels anger

by Susan Martinuk, Calgary Herald

Can a million dollars change how we view the course of Canadian
history? Apparently not, according to the Canadian Museum of Human
Rights. The Winnipeg museum has yet to open, but it has generated
considerable controversy by changing the proposed wording for a
proposed digital sign advertising a First Nations exhibit when the
museum opens in 2014 or later.

Initially, the sign referred to the exhibit as “Settler Colonial
Genocide.” It was recently decided that the volatile term “genocide”
would be removed as a violent descriptor of how Canada has treated its
First Nations people. After all, it really isn’t within the museum’s
mandate to make such determinations; particularly when there has been
no official recognition of such by any outside group or governing
body. This is a term used only by the First Nations themselves.

This change has greatly angered the Assembly of Manitoba Chiefs, who
had pledged $1 million to help the museum educate the public about
human rights and aboriginals in Canada.

According to a letter written to the museum by Grand Chief Murray
Clearsky, the assembly made the donation with the understanding that
“a true history of the treatment of First Nations people would be on
exhibit.” Of course, the implication is that the only “true history”
involves genocide. The other implication is that donated money should
be sufficient to influence the nature of exhibits.

Yes, there have been huge systemic failures in the government’s
dealing with aboriginals. The residential schools program, conducted
jointly with various churches, was a disaster. It was meant to
assimilate native children into a white society, yet seems to have
shown them the very worst of any kind of a society. There was physical
and sexual abuse, and recent news reports describe unethical
nutritional experiments. From the 1870s until the early 1990s, it is
estimated that 150,000 children went through the residential school
system and about 3,000 deaths occurred during that time.

The vast majority of these deaths were related to disease, not some
nefarious and deliberate attempts to extinguish young lives. Very
little was known about the transmission of disease, and the flu and TB
had perfect conditions to find multiple hosts in dormitory conditions.

Canada officially recognizes five genocides worldwide. The Holocaust
(six million deaths), the Holodomor (the deliberate starvation of
Ukrainians resulting in 3.5 million deaths), the Armenian genocide
(1.5 million deaths), Rwanda (800,000 deaths) and the Srebrenican
massacre in Bosnia (about 800,000 deaths).

Each of these is characterized by the deliberate, intentional and
planned death of one culture by another.

When I think of Canada’s natives and their history in residential
schools, I don’t see that. I see mistakes and ignorance, but no clear
intent to destroy aboriginals. Since then, there has been a
$1.9-billion settlement to help those harmed in the schools, a full
apology by Prime Minister Stephen Harper for “historic wrongs and
injustices” and hundreds of millions more for healing, restoration and
the public airing of grievances.

There has been a clear acknowledgment of wrongdoing but, as I wrote at
the time, words and money will never be enough, and it is always a
mistake to assume they will make a difference when someone has been
injured by another. If there is no forgiveness and the apology is not
accepted, the hurt just continues.

As a result, we have Clearsky clearly stating in his letter that
genocide is the proper term for “what has been done and is currently
being perpetrated on the First Nations through various means.” He also
mentions “ongoing attempts to assimilate and eradicate the original
peoples of this country.”

In other words, the genocide isn’t over. It is happening right now.

This attitude by native leaders continues to fuel the anger of
natives. They have tax exemptions, housing, education, health care
where benefits exceed those of non-aboriginal Canadians and special
access to any number of governmentfunded social programs. They also
receive money and benefits according to their various treaties.

It is an insult to the Jews and other genocide victims for Canadians
to give in to claims of genocide by aboriginals.

The museum is right to deny the desires of the chiefs to influence
perceptions of how they have been treated by Canada. Allow visitors to
study the facts and make their own determination as to whether
genocide or pandering is the appropriate term to describe Canada’s
treatment of its aboriginal people.

Mkhitaryan out of Dortmund opener

10 August 2013, 08:41

Borussia Dortmund will not have the services of big name new
acquisition Henrikh Mkhitaryan for their 2013-14 season opener on
Saturday at Augsburg due to an ankle issue, coach Juergen Klopp said
on Thursday.

“Micki cannot play,” said Klopp, who has not had the Armenian
international in training since Mkhitaryan injured his ankle about
three weeks ago.

Mkhitaryan, who arrived in Dortmund in the off-season for 25 million
euros (33.3 million dollars) from Shakhtar Donetsk, recently was able
to train individually, but remains out of team training.

Dortmund are also questioning if Ilkay Guendogan can play after the
German international left training Thursday with a back issue.

Should Guendogan not be able to go, Klopp could insert summer signee
Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang on the right wing and Marco Reus would move
into the middle. Australian Mitch Langerak meanwhile will definitely
fill in for suspended top keeper Roman Weidenfeller.

It appears more and more likely that Dortmund are done adding players
-after bringing in Mkhitaryan, Aubameyang and centre back Sokratis
during the summer.

“We are still keeping our eyes open, but the roster is strong enough
as well,” said Klopp, who has especially been impressed with the
club’s own youth players such as Marvin Duksch and Jonas Hofmann.

“At the moment today, all the guys we have added have left a fantastic
impression. Now we hope that everything stays like that and everybody
stays healthy and we will play a season which we can all look back on
very, very positively.”

ministry initiative to extend the methadone replacement therapy
program on to Gyumri, the second largest city in Armenia.

The HIV prevention measures being taken among Armenia’s prisoners
