ISKANDER MISSILES TO BE FIRED AT RUSSIA’S KAVKAZ-2012 MILITARY DRILLS

PanARMENIAN.Net – The Kavkaz-2012 military exercises, which will take
place in southern Russia in September, will involve the live firing of
Iskander ballistic missile complexes, the deputy chief of the General
Staff of the Russian Armed Forces, Colonel General Alexander Postnikov,
said on Tuesday, August 7, according to RIA Novosti.

“Some elements of high-accuracy weapons operated by the Ground Forces
will be involved, including Iskander missile complexes,” Postnikov
told journalists.

Sea- and air-launched cruise missiles, as well as anti-ship complexes
will also be fired during the drills, which will take place on
September 17-23 and involve some 8,000 Russian troops.

The live firing of high-accuracy weapons is aimed at testing the
efficiency of their fire-control systems, Postnikov said.

He assured that the military will put all the necessary security
arrangements in place ahead of the drills.

“We understand the conditions in which the exercises will take place,
and preventive security measures will certainly be taken. We have
all the capabilities to ensure this,” he added.

TURKISH LAWYER KILLED IN MILITARY OPERATIONS IN ALEPPO

Groups of militants in Aleppo attempted to take one of the government
buildings in a district were the Armenian community is large. The
government troops stopped the attempt. The operation, which lasted
about 2 hours, ended when the authority resorted to air force and
drove the militants back. Fortunately, Armenians didn’t sustain
losses. Presently, it’s already comparatively calmer and the shots
have stopped.

At the same time, the Turkish media inform that Turkish lawyer Osman
Karahan was killed in the battles in Aleppo. Karahan, once the advocate
of al-Qaeda members, left for Syria months ago and became a member
of military groupings.

Baghdad has numerously stated that there are many Turkish, Afghan
and Arab militants among the militants, who fight against the Syrian
army as mercenaries. Lately, an interview with the member of the
opposition Free Syrian Army Twaiba Kanafan was published on BBC,
where Twaiba tells how the militants are trained in Turkey.

Yesterday, Damascus stated a Turkish general, who commanded rebel
forces, was arrested in Aleppo. Ankara disconfirms that information,
but our Syrian sources are sure the general was arrested.

ARMENIAN CHESS PLAYERS AT WORLD JUNIOR CHAMPIONSHIPS

Armenian chess players succeeded in the fifth round of World Junior
Championships.

Samvel Ter-Sahakyan, Karen H. Grigoryan and Vahe Baghdasaryan beat
Wei Yi, Oliver Mihok and Anton Podolsky respectively.

Samvel Ter-Sahakyan shares 1-3 places with Yu Yangyi and Alexander
Ipatov with 4.5 points.

Karen H. Grigoryan is in ninth place with 4 points and Vahe
Baghdasaryan is 50th with 3 points.

Losing to Lisa Schut, Shushanna Sargsyan is 35th with 2 points.

EUROPEAN INVESTMENT BANK TO PROVIDE AROUND 37 MILLION EURO LOAN TO ARMENIA

YEREVAN, AUGUST 7, ARMENPRESS: Minister of Finance of Armenia Vache
Gabrielyan and the head of Eastern policy and Central Asia division
of European Investment Bank Heinz Olbers on August 7 in the ministry
of Finance of Armenia signed loan agreements. Armenpress reports that
the Vache Gabrielyan mentioned that the aim of water program is to
implement reconstruction and modernization of water objects in Tavush,
Lori, Shirak, Gegharkunik, Kotayk, Syunik and Vayotz Dzor regions
of Armenia which must correspond to international standards. “More
than 300 000 people ill be provided with cleaner water” mentioned
the minister.

In the framework of “Modernization of “Bagratashen”, “Bavra” and
“Gogavan” checkpoints of the state border of the Republic of Armenia”
program is planned to establish modern infrastructure of checkpoints.

“For business world and trade will be created favorable conditions,
the border security will be improved” mentioned Vache Gabrielyan.

European Bank for Reconstruction and Development, European Investment
Bank support the implementation of the program. European Union also
supports the program.

In the words of the head of Eastern policy and Central Asia division of
European Investment Bank Heinz Olbers the water program is considered
as a priority for the activity of European Investment Bank in the
region which will implement economic and social development and
the the program of modernization of border checkpoints will improve
the movement of the people. Heinz Olbers also expressed hope that in
future the cooperation between Armenia and the bank will be continued
in future.

SYRIAN MINISTER OF INFORMATION CONSIDERED FORMER PRIME MINISTER TO ESCAPE THE RESPONSIBILITY

Yerevan, August 6,ARMENPRESS: Syria is a commercial country and the
escape of individuals, even high-ranked officials from the country
cannot influence on the state works. Syrian Minister of Information
Omran al Zohbi stated about this.

As “Armenpress” reports citing the Syrian SANA agency, Omran al Zohbi
denied the information on the escape of the government’s several
members in the interview with media adding that 99% of the information
is published for special purposes. Such medias aim to increase tension
in Syria.

The Minister noted that former Prime Minister never expressed
dissatisfaction with the country’s politics. He considered the escape
of Hijab Riad as an escape from responsibility for the unsuccessful
state activities. In the end he added that Hijab’s escape cannot have
any affects on the state, and 23 million Syrians hope to see a worthy
person to stand in the position.

Earlier, information was received that several members of the
government escaped with the former Prime Minister.

MKHITARYAN IS THE BEST SCORER OF UKRAINIAN FOOTBALL CHAMPIONSHIP

team Henrikh Mkhitaryan scored two goals in the 4th round of Ukrainian
championship and is the best scorere of the championship. Armenpress
reports that “Shaktar” scored 4 goals in the match against “Volyn”.

After this match Armenian midfielder made the number of his goals in
this season to 5.

After the match Mkhitaryan gave a little interview to the official
website of “Shaktar”: Armenpress presents the interview fully:

– You always say that for you the team is in the first place. But at
the same time you have already scored five goals in four games…

– When losing or winning, it always regards the whole team! These
three points were very important for us. The most important thing is
for us to continue in the same direction without straying from the
path. If all goes well, we will be one hundred percent ready for the
Champions League. Hopefully, things will pan out well in these games.

– Did you expect such a resistance by Volyn?

– They played very well, changing the style of play. They did
everything to switch from defence using passes. But I think we
were better.

– Previously, Volyn had been playing with high commitment. Was their
determination not as high today?

– No, their determination, as always, was at the highest level. But
we were very seriously preparing for the game. Mister said that if
we didn’t score and if we were relaxed, they might punish us. We
remember well the difficult matches played in the past year, so we
were relaxed neither after the first, nor the second, nor the third
goal, and tried to score even more goals.

towards Yerevan Komitas State Conservatory, jazz-vocal department
alumni Ani Christi not only due to her attractive name but her creative
activity. The singer participated in numerous competitions and received
various awards at the world’s most prestigious concert halls. In 2008
she cooperated with Oscar prize winner , composer Rahman. Ani Christi
has been living in the United States, Los Angeles since 2010.

Despite the fact that the singer is not always seen in the screens,
her hits still are listened to. Armenpress had an interview with Ani
Christi on her creative activities.

– Rumors are circulated about your upcoming concert, when are you
going to come forth in Homeland?

-There are no clear programs; I cannot tell anything this moment.

There are projects launched in US, which are about to end. To be frank,
I must say I missed a lot of my audience, its due to their love that
we become popular.

– You have cooperated with many famous singers in the course of your
creative life. You have had joint video with Constantine Orbelian:
in future who would you like to cooperate with?

-Thanks to God, I was successful in this respect, I had chance to
sing, work with not only Armenian but world famous musicians. In June
4, I was lucky to come up in a concert hall almost always hosting
world renowned musicians. Armenian songs were performed in House Of
Blues-known club , anchored with rock music elements. There I receive
invitation by trumpet specialist Jacob Armen, which was very binding.

THE CLASHES IN ARMENIAN POPULATED DISTRICTS OF ALEPPO ARE NOT DIRECTED AGAINST ARMENIANS

YEREVAN, AUGUST 7, ARMENPRESS: The shootings on August 6-7which took
place near districts of Aleppo which are mostly populated by Armenians
are not directed against Armenians. Armenpress was informed about this
from the press secretary of national primacy of Aleppo Jirayr Reisyan.

“This morning I woke up from the sounds of shootings which are very
close to Armenian populated districts. The clashes and shootings which
are continued at this moment take place in the centre of the city
where live many Armenians but they can not be named Armenian districts”
highlighted Reisyan. He had a difficulty to mention whether the panic
has increased among Syrian Armenians or not as they can not come out
of the houses.

“Only after this tension we can talk with Armenians. Though these
attacks are not directed against Armenians but clashes can be
difficult for Armenians too” mentioned Reisyan. He said that there
is not any direct damage to Armenian institutions and churches. He
also rejected the rumors about the fact that Saint Gevorg Armenian
Church had stopped operating.

According to Syrian centre of Human Rights Defense Organization the
ongoing clashes have resulted in the death of over 19000 people. By
the info of Arab mass media more than 12000 were peaceful civilians,
while more than 5000 were security officers. Among the victims there
were 7 Armenians, 2 of which were the Syrian Army militaries. Because
of lasting disturbances in Syria a number of people are leaving the
country, getting refugee status in other countries. Recently Syrian
Armenian Community representatives are also quitting the state. The
applications submitted from Syria by our compatriots are being
envisaged by accelerated procedure, at least within ten days.

Legrand a deja execute dans sa patrie historique : en 2006 il a donne

Zhou Lulu Wins Women’s +75kg Weightlifting Olympic Gold

Zhou Lulu of China won the women’s +75kg weightlifting gold medal at
the London Olympic Games on Sunday

Chinese lifter Zhou Lulu proved herself the strongest woman on earth
by lifting a total of 333kg in the +75kg division, breaking her own
total world record of 328kg to win gold at London Olympics on Sunday.

The competition for the gold medal was intense between Zhou and
Russian lifter Tatiana Kashirina. Both lifters opened with record
smashing weight, as Zhou successfully lifted 142kg and Kashirina
managed 144 in their first attempts, putting the previous 140kg snatch
Olympic record, set by South Korean Jang Mi-Ran in 2008, into history
book.

Zhou later asked for 146kg on the bar and managed to get three white
lights in the third attempt. However, Kashirina, the current snatch
world record holder, broke her own 148kg record twice by hoisting
149kg and 151kg.

In clean and jerk, Zhou managed to jerk 181kg and 187kg, 6kg more than
Kashirina’s attempts and put pressure on the Russian to take a risk.
Kashirina jerked 175kg and 181kg but failed at 187kg in her third
attempt and handed the gold medal to Zhou.

Setting the new total record of 333kg, Zhou went for 190kg in the
final attempt but was unable to lift the mark even higher.

“Today I’m not very happy with my snatches, but I have confidance in
clean and jerk because I jerked 190kg during training. I’m glad the
gold medal in this category is back to China again.” Zhou said.

Kashirina won silver with a total of 332kg. She said she’s pleased
with the results.

“I put a lot of energy into the snatch. With 151kg I beat my own world
record of 148kg. In the clean and jerk the legs are very important,
and in this my legs let me down.”

Armenia lifter Hripsime Khurshudyan won the bronze medal with 294kg in
total. She became the first woman representing Armenia to win a medal
at the Olympics in any sport.

South Korean Jang Mi-Ran, the defending Olympic champion, finished
fourth with 289kg in total. “I was very happy to participate in the
Olympics and I also feel a bit relieved the competition is over. I
hope that people’s support for weightlifting will be constant.” Jang
said.
