AC Milan sack Filippo Inzaghi

AC Milan have confirmed the dismissal of coach Filippo Inzaghi halfway through his two-year contract with the Italian outfit, Goal.com reports.

The former youth-team coach only took charge of the senior squad last summer, succeeding Clarence Seedorf at the helm.

However, after a disappointing 2014-15 campaign, which saw Milan fail to qualify for Europe after finishing in 10th in Serie A, the Rossoneri decided to part company with the World Cup winner.

“AC Milan announces that it has sacked the coach of the first-team squad, Filippo Inzaghi, who has been thanked for the work done,” read a short statement released on the club’s official website.

Milan owner Silvio Berlusconi had already been publicly pursuing a new coach, having done his utmost to try to persuade former boss Carlo Ancelotti to return to San Siro after his Real Madrid exit.

However, with Ancelotti having opted to take a break from the game to recover from scheduled back surgery, the Rossoneri are now set to hire Sinisa Mihajlovic, who stepped down as Sampdoria coach at the end of last season.

In a statement, he said he was “tremendously proud of the Twitter team”.

Twitter said that its board had formed a committee to undertake the task of finding a successor.

Gephardt and his lobbying firm have taken $8 million from Turkish government

As a member of Congress, Dick Gephardt often spoke passionately about the need for the United States to recognize as genocide the mass deaths of as many as 1.5 million Armenians under the Turkish government that began one century ago.

But as a lobbyist for Turkey since leaving Congress in 2005, Gephardt, a Democrat, has taken the opposite side. His behind-the-scenes work has been cited as a factor in the annual failure of Congress to recognize the Armenian genocide, according to .

Justice Department records show that Gephardt’s lobbying firm has been paid more than $8 million since 2008 to fight the declaration and represent Turkey on other contentious issues, including repatriation of Christian holy sites seized over the last century in that Muslim nation.

Now, in the 100th-anniversary year of what Armenians refer to as Meds Yeghern — “great calamity” — two Armenian-American groups are pressuring Gephardt’s lobbying firm to drop Turkey as a client, and for companies to drop Gephardt as their lobbyist.

Gephardt, who declined to respond to repeated interview requests, has ignored the Armenian groups’ letters. Three companies have ended contracts with the Gephardt Group since the two Armenian-American groups launched a letter-writing campaign in January, although none publicly tied the decision to the letters.

Critics of the former congressman from St. Louis say he is just another example of the revolving door between electoral office and the lucrative lobbying business, where policy positions seem to change based on who’s paying the bill.

In 1998, speaking to frequent applause from the Armenian National Committee of America in a Capitol Hill event, Gephardt called for Congress to “solemnly remember the genocide which occurred many years ago, but which so deeply affected so many families and people in Armenia. We must always keep that fact, those real facts, in our mind.”

But after going to work for Turkey in 2007, he told the Post-Dispatch that he was working toward a reconciliation that would avoid a genocide declaration, to “get all the facts on the table and let the chips fall where they may.”

In January, as the 100th anniversary of Meds Yeghern approached, two Armenian-American groups began pressuring Gephardt and his clients.“The American corporate community must have a zero-tolerance policy against any action that either covers up past genocides or in any way contributes to future atrocities,” declared a Jan. 28 letter to the former congressman signed by leaders of the groups, the Armenian National Committee of America and the Armenian Assembly of America.“To that end, as a courtesy, we would like to inform you that we have reached out to all of your clients … to educate them about your lobbying on behalf of the Turkish government.”

The groups sent letters to roughly 200 clients who had hired either Gephardt or other lobbying firms that represented Turkey, saying the companies had a “troubling relationship” with genocide deniers.

The results of the letter campaign are unclear.

Spokesmen for Google, Boeing and of St. Louis-area companies Ameren, Anheuser-Busch and Peabody either refused to comment or said they had no record of receiving the letter.

But Frederick D. Palmer, Peabody’s senior vice president for government relations, wrote back to the Armenian-American groups saying his company would not drop lobbyists just because they represented Turkey.

“The events you describe are tragic indeed, but there is no basis to punish Turkey today, an ally for more than 60 years along with being a democratic and free market example that is rare in the region,” Palmer wrote.

The exactly a month after the letter was sent. Mary Grady, managing director of media and public relations for the airport, declined to say why.

Mike Zampa, communications director for the to expire in January but described it as a normal change.

The Human Rights Campaign also canceled its $10,000 monthly contract, but Fred Sainz, the rights organization’s director of communications, said it had “nothing to do with the Armenia letter.”

A lobbyist left the Gephardt Group, Sainz said, “and we followed him to his new firm.”

Defense Army fulfills its tasks with dignity: Artsakh President

Dear compatriots,

Dear veterans of the Great Patriotic and Artsakh Liberation Wars,

Respected generals, officers and soldiers of the Defense Army,

On behalf of the republic’s authorities and myself personally I cordially congratulate you on the 70th anniversary of the Victory, the Day of the Nagorno Karabakh Republic Defense Army and the Liberation of Shushi.

70 years ago the Artsakh people also had a worthy contribution in forging the glorious victory against the Nazism, one of the greatest evils in the human history. Our compatriots were distinguished by their heroism and courage, endurance and dedication both in the battlefield and the rear. Tens of thousands of Artsakh people went to the war, half of them did not return. Eternal honor and glory to all our martyrs! Their memory will always remain bright in the history of our people.

We are deeply grateful to our brave fathers and grandfathers for their heroic path, for the lessons of patriotism and selflessness taught to us. These lessons were studied well by further generations that forged victories decades after the Great Patriotic during in the Artsakh Liberation War. Together with Mother Armenia and our world-spread sisters and brothers we defended the freedom and independence of Artsakh, peace and tranquility of our native people, liberated the ancient fortress of Shushi and laid solid foundations for new victories.

In the hearth of this struggle the Nagorno Karabakh Republic Defense Army, the pride and glory of the whole Armenian nation and the main guarantor of our security, was born. The army continues to fulfill the tasks set before it with dignity, giving a worthy counter stroke to the enemy’s encroachments and keeping impregnable the Fatherland’s borders.

Due to our people’s freedom-loving spirit and strong will we registered great successes and achievements during the years of independence. Only in this way, united and consolidated, we are able to solve the issues we are facing, bring to life various programs and achieve the realization of national goals.

Dear compatriots,

I once again congratulate all of us on this glorious Triple Holiday and wish peaceful, prosperous and victorious path to our heroic people and Motherland.

Turkish Opposition Discontented With US President’s Address And Turk

TURKISH OPPOSITION DISCONTENTED WITH US PRESIDENT’S ADDRESS AND TURKISH PRIME MINISTER’S RESPONSE TO IT

ArmInfo. Deniz Baykal, the leader of the main opposition Republican
People’s Party, or CHP, criticized Erdogan for contradicting the
Foreign Ministry. "Turkey voices one reaction in solidarity. Mr. Prime
Minister should advocate for his country, not for what Obama said,"
Baykal told reporters Sunday.

After B. Obama’s address that again avoided the word Genocide,
Erdogan declared that the address demonstrated delicate attitude of
the White House Administration to that issue. However, Foreign Minister
Ahmet Davutoglu said the speech was "unacceptable." "Turkish-American
relations need to be free from such reservations," the minister said.

"If we are going to share pain for humanitarian reasons, then we
would expect respect for our own pain as well."

Namik Tan, Turkey’s ambassador to Washington, was also unhappy. "We
will not accept whatever Obama says because it is only a political
statement without any scientific base," Tan told Turkish demonstrators
meeting outside the embassy on Sunday. "We reject any imposition but
are ready to establish a joint historical committee to investigate
what happened," he said. To recall, despite his pre-election promise
to call the incident of 1915 Genocide, Barack Obama again used the
Armenian equivalent of the legal term "Genocide" – ‘"Meds Yeghern".

Richard Giragosian: Armenia Plays Chess, Whereas Turkey Makes A Show

RICHARD GIRAGOSIAN: ARMENIA PLAYS CHESS, WHEREAS TURKEY MAKES A SHOW

"Armenia plays chess, whereas Turkey makes a show," Director of
the Armenian Center for National and International Studies Richard
Giragosian told a press conference today.

"In chess there is a winner, and we may win. In theatre there is no
winner. It’s either good entertainment or bad. And we are playing
chess well," he said.

According to Giragosian, Armenia has had two strategic victories in
the Armenian-Turkish process. "One is relations between Azerbaijan
and Turkey. The concept of one nation two states is dead. The second
strategic victory is regarding Nagorno Karabakh, where even the
Americans and Russians tell Turkey "no." Karabakh is no more directly
linked to the Armenian-Turkish relations," he sated.

"The best option for Armenia is to demonstrate political dexterity
and ratify the protocols now, which would increase the pressures on
Turkey. To me it’s good politics," Richard Giragosian said.

"Sargsyan-Erdogan meeting in Washington was the first step, not
the last one. We can expect Sargsyan-Erdogan second meeting in late
May or early June in Moscow," Richard Giragosian said and explained
the meeting could become possible due to Russian President Dmitry
Medvedev’s upcoming visit to Turkey in May.

He is convinced that Russia continues to play an active role in
Armenia-Turkey process. "The interesting thing is, however, that both
Russia and the US agree that the Nagorno-Karabakh can no longer be
a precondition," the analyst said.

U.S. President Barack Obama is unlikely to utter the word ‘genocide’
on April 24, ACNIS Director said.

"I do not need the U.S President or the Congress to tell me what I
know without them. I do not expect the Parliament of Sweden or of any
other country to recognize the Genocide I know about. It is much more
important that Turkey admit the Genocide," Giragosian stated.

ARTAK SHAKARYAN: TURKEY SEEKS A CONVENIENT LEADER FOR ARMENIAN COMMUNITY

/PanARMENIAN.Net/ Turkish Prime Minster needed to restore his image
after the shameful interview to BBC, an Armenian expert said.

"The meeting with head of the Armenian community Bedros Sirinoglu was
a PR action, which, by the way, arouse discontent of the community,"
Artak Shakaryan told a news conference in Yerevan.

"The events of 1915 generated a conflict between our nations, which
had lived in peace before. We should forget this conflict and look
into the future. The Armenian President is of a similar opinion,"
TRT quoted Sirinoglu as saying on March 26.

"Turkey seeks a convenient leader for Armenian community, which already
feels hostage to the government. Ankara wants to secure itself against
appearance of a new Hrant Dink," Mr. Shakaryan noted

Asked by a PanARMENIAN.Net reporter to comment on the forthcoming
election of co-Patriarch of Constantinople, the expert said that
