Bone Marrow Needed For Armenian American Mom

BONE MARROW NEEDED FOR ARMENIAN AMERICAN MOM

Published: Monday April 09, 2012

Would you help save a life?

Debbi Margosian Chapman’s family hopes you will and is offering
$10,000 to the person who is a bone marrow match for her to treat
her leukemia. Because Debbi, a mother of two in Belmont, Mass, is
Armenian, her doctors believe her best chances of finding a match is
with the Armenian community.

If you’re between 18-50 years old, you just need to give a quick swab
of your cheeks so you can be entered into the Armenian Bone Marrow
Donor Registry. If you are a match, in the majority of cases, your
stem cells will be harvested in a manner similar to giving blood-there
is no anesthesia or surgery.

The ABMDR is a non-governmental, non-profit organization whose mission
is to ensure that every ethnic Armenian struck with a life threatening
blood-related illness is able to find hope for long-term survival
through the identification of a genetically suitable bone marrow match.

On any given day, more than 6000 patients worldwide are searching
for a donor. Only 25-30% of patients stricken with leukemia and
other blood-related diseases can find a match within their family,
the other 70-75% of the patients depend on the stem cell donation of
a complete stranger to save their lives.

YEREVAN.- Armenian communists’ main goal is to build socialism,
head of the party Ruben Tovmasyan told Armenian News-NEWS.am.

The party refers to examples of the former Soviet Union, Communist
China and Latin American countries which are on their way to build
socialism.

As regards the election program which will be published in the next
few days, Tovmasyan said there must be a law allowing pensioners,
war and labor veterans to receive free medical treatment.

Communists also stand for strengthening of Armenian-Russian relations
in all fields as well as nationalization of strategically important
branches of economy.

“We will spare no effort to protect the alliance of the Russian and
Armenian armies to prevent NATO from entering Armenia,” he added.

Do They Speak Armenian?

DO THEY SPEAK ARMENIAN?

Story from Lragir.am News:

Published: 10:29:24 – 09/04/2012

According to the Armenian mass media, persons accused of high treason
and work for the Azerbaijani intelligence have been arrested.

It would be interesting to know whether the convicts speak Armenian,
well or badly. It is possible that they speak only Russian or
a dialect.

In general, were there people accused of high treason in the history
of independent Armenia who don’t speak Armenian or speak badly?

Destructive Construction? Residents of 32 Abovyan St. Concerned About
Damage to Building’s Foundations
Sona Avagyan

hetq 14:15, April 7, 2012

The facts that large cracks have appeared Õ«Õ¶ apartment
walls and that the State Urban Construction Inspectorate found a
number of building code violations, hasn’t stopped Ashot
Simonyan from digging away underneath the landmark building at 32
Abovyan Street in downtown Yerevan.

Workers were back at the site earlier today with picks and shovels,
prompting nervous residents upstairs, afraid that the
building’s foundations are being weakened, to call the
mayor’s hot line and other municipal agencies.

Unfortunately, no one from the city picked up the phone, given that
today is a non-work day. Hopefully, the building will stand upright
till Monday.

Building resident Sedrak Arakelyan told Hetq that a work blueprint is
affixed to the tarp surrounding the work site and it
doesn’t show the tree that now stands on the sidewalk.

Simonyan told this reporter that the tree will remain standing.

`It never even crossed my mind to touch that
tree,’ he said.

Simonyan also said that all ongoing construction is according to the
work permit he received.

Building residents, however, have consistently pointed to numerous
violations. A top concern of theirs is that the basement construction
is weakening the foundations of the 78 year-old structure. Cracks have
appeared in their walls and some doors no longer close properly.

Simonyan claims that the violations uncovered by the Inspectorate have
been taken care of.

He scoffed at the idea that serious problems have plagued the
construction work.

`Hey, it’s an old building. Those cracks
aren’t my doing. They examined those cracks and found no
structural damage.’

Simonyan failed to name which organization or agency had conducted the
examination.

The builder originally wanted to operate a cafe or restaurant in the
basement. After residents complained, Simonyan is now talking about
opening some kind of store.

BAKU: Russia arms Armenia but also key negotiator with Azerbaijan?

President of Jamestown Foundation: `Russia is the country that arms
Armenia but the same time it is the key negotiator with Azerbaijan’

[ 06 Apr 2012 14:34 ]
`You really need to have a balance to the negotiating process’

`Moscow using rumors war against Iran to position itself in the South Caucasus’

Baku. Victoria Dementieva – APA. `Moscow using a rumor war against
Iran to position itself in the South Caucasus. The US courage Israel
not to attack Iran and I believe that is not happen’, president of the
Jamestown Foundation Glen Howard told journalists, APA reports.

`But to whose advantages is the statement being done? Which country to
the north just talking about the threat of attack and moving forces
into the south? So this is a question we have to ask’, said Howard.

Howard said Nagorno Karabakh conflict created a problem for both
Azerbaijan and entire region. `Russia has been given the primary
position in this issue. It is the country that arms Armenia but the
same time it is the key negotiator with Azerbaijan. It does not make
sense. Our role is to keep in mind that you really need to have a
balance to the negotiating process. Russia is providing weapon to
Armenia and also to Azerbaijan. It is negotiator and the same time the
key arms provider. That is not creating a very stable situation’, said
Howard.

Arab Tawhid Party slams Erdogan
April 7, 2012

Arab Tawhid Party slammed Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip
Erdogan’s statement calling on Iran to act honestly and said the
premier was a `hypocrite,’ the National News Agency reported on
Saturday.

`Erdogan continues in the policy of hypocrisy which he adopted since
he began… to present himself as a defender of Palestine,’ the party
said in a statement.

It added that the Turkish premier wanted to `end the Palestinian cause
by [reaching an] agreement with Israel.’

`Lack of honesty [is a characteristic] of those who displaced 1.5
million Armenians and those who colonized most of the Muslim
[countries]. Lack of honesty [is a characteristic] of those who were
hosted by Syria once and then harbored murderers and provided them
with weapons to kill people.’

Erdogan on Thursday said Iran continued to lose prestige in the world
because of `a lack of honesty.”
