Islamic NATO As A New Step Towards Ottoman Empire Revival

ISLAMIC NATO AS A NEW STEP TOWARDS OTTOMAN EMPIRE REVIVAL
Karine Ter-Sahakian

PanARMENIAN.Net
July 28, 2012

The new organization first targets the Arab world, which Turkey is
eager to attract under the “democracy protection” cover.

Turkey is trying to become a more active player in the Near East,
voicing ideas which then appear to be alarming, if not dangerous.

Complete failure of the foreign policy pushes Ankara to seeking new
ways of implementing the “neo-Osmanism”. This, first of all, assumes
the endorsement of caliphate and restoration of the following title:

PanARMENIAN.Net – “Sultan (given name) Khan, Sovereign of the House
of Osman, Sultan of Sultans, Khan of Khans, Commander of the Faithful
and Successor of the Prophet of the Lord of the Universe, Protector of
the Holy Cities of Mecca, Medina and Jerusalem”, et cetera, et cetera.

This was not just a detailed listing of the sultan titles. Huge army
that conquered vast territories in 400 years including Mecca and
Medina, now under rule of Al Saudi dynasty, was of major importance
for the Ottoman Empire. Establishment of a new caliphate needs an
army as well – united Islamic forces, if possible.

Mustafa Kamalak, chairman of the Turkish Saadet (“Felicity”) Party
voiced this idea in Morocco last week. Saadet is the hardliner wing of
the former Turkish Refah (“Welfare”) Party, the moderate Eurocentric
wing of which is now Turkey’s ruling Justice and Development Party
(AKP). Kamalak declared that “Islamic NATO” and Islamic peacekeeping
forces need to be established urgently.

“Today’s events in Islamic countries again proved that the former
Turkish PM Necmettin Erbakan was right in his urge to create Islamic
peacekeeping forces. We heartily welcome the awakening in Islamic
states and pray for their success. Still, the Western states are trying
to benefit from it. We must first push forward unity and integrity,
rather than our conflicts,” Kamalak noted.

Former prime minister of Turkey Necmettin Erbakan is known as
author of the “universal caliphate” concept. Ideologically,
caliphate bases on Islam, while its martial aspect relies on the
independent military-political bloc. Erbakan named this bloc the
“Islamic peacekeeping forces” and its supporters – the “Islamic
NATO”. The North-Atlantic Alliance is facing hard times now; meanwhile,
Turkey is increasingly gaining weight entitling it to come up with
such statements. No doubt, Azerbaijan will be the first to join the
Islamic NATO in case it does emerge. Baku will definitely attempt to
thus settle its issues; otherwise, it will lose the second Karabakh
war as well if it relies on its own resources.

It should be noted that the “Islamic NATO” first of all targets the
Arab world, which Turkey is eager to attract under the “democracy
protection” cover. This “democracy” was quite apparent in Libya,
Tunisia and Egypt; tragically, Syria is following the same path.

The “Islamic NATO” will definitely never lack funding: Saudi Arabia
and Qatar will gladly undertake the financing of this formation,
despite certain theological discrepancy between Sunnis of the Gulf
monarchies and Turkey.

However, these obstacles can be overcome: monarchies, particularly
Saudi Arabia dominated by Wahhabi branch of Islam will hardly insist
on the Sunnism they practice.

The new structure will also try to move away from the West and just
ignore Iran. The West may also welcome the new bloc hoping it will
help settle the Syrian and Iranian issues. In a word, everybody will
be happy.

Just one minor note: is the Arab world willing to see Turkey take the
lead of their united forces? The history hints the answer is negative.

The thing is that the ideas Ankara is coming with every now and then
may once become a reality. So, one has to rely on Saudi Arabia and
Qatar in this. Formal support to Erdogan with his sultanic aspirations
is one thing, while tolerating, so to say, such a leader of the Islamic
world is quite another. Saudi Arabia’s kingdom rightfully believes
this to be its prerogative and is not going to step down as yet,
“as yet” being the key phrase here…

Azerbaijan

Azerbaijan has expressed a protest to Tanzania, Azerbaijani Foreign
Ministry spokesman Elman Abdullayev said.

“The Azerbaijani Embassy in Egypt, also accredited to Tanzania sent
a note to this country’s Foreign Ministry,” Abdullayev said.

According to Abdullayev, the note reflects a protest in connection
with indication of Nagorno-Karabakh as a separate country on the
website of Tanzanian Foreign Ministry.

“Azerbaijan demanded from Tanzania rapid removal of this information
from its Foreign Ministry’s website,” Abdullayev said.

The conflict between the two South Caucasus countries began in 1988
when Armenia made territorial claims against Azerbaijan. Armenian
armed forces have occupied 20 per cent of Azerbaijan since 1992,
including the Nagorno-Karabakh region and seven surrounding districts.

Azerbaijan and Armenia signed a ceasefire agreement in 1994. The
co-chairs of the OSCE Minsk Group – Russia, France and the U.S. –
are currently holding peace negotiations.

Armenia has not yet implemented the U.N. Security Council’s four
resolutions on the liberation of the Nagorno-Karabakh and the
surrounding regions.

BAKU: Azerbaijan Pledges "Relevant Action" Over Flights Above Armeni

AZERBAIJAN PLEDGES “RELEVANT ACTION” OVER FLIGHTS ABOVE ARMENIAN-HELD AREAS

Turan news agency
Azerbaijan
July 24 2012

Baku, 24 July: Armenia’s attempts to start unilateral operation of the
airport in Xocali in Nagornyy Karabakh will be assessed as a violation
of Azerbaijan’s airspace, the Azerbaijani State Civil Aviation
Department has said in a comment on statements made in Armenia about
their readiness to launch round-trip flights from Xankandi to Yerevan.

No foreign airplanes can fly over Azerbaijan’s territory without
Azerbaijan’s permission. If such a flight takes place, it will be
assessed as a border violation and relevant action will be taken,
the Azerbaijani State Civil Aviation Department reported.

Last week [OSCE] Minsk Group co-chairs [who mediate a peaceful solution
to Karabakh territorial dispute between Armenia and Azerbaijan]
issued a statement that the operation of the airport does not
affect the status of Karabakh, and urged the sides to refrain from
violence. However, by today’s statement Baku made it clear that the
call by the co-chairs is not appropriate and that a violation of its
air borders will be prevented.

Commenting on possible scenarios, military experts have noted that
civil flights from Armenia to Karabakh will inevitably go through
Lacuna and Kalbacar (Azerbaijani districts outside Karabakh). Further,
aircraft will have to make a circle above Asgaran, and will inevitably
fly over Agdam District (another occupied district outside Karabakh).

Therefore, there are sufficient legal grounds to make those flights
impossible.

As to military means, Azerbaijan has more than enough air defence
systems to destroy these planes or to prevent flights. This also
applies to air-to-land missiles of various classes and modifications,
as well as electronic interference that can incapacitate or seriously
disrupt the electronic communications of aircraft. Thus, the flights
can be extremely dangerous for people on [the planes], even for Serzh
Sargsyan who promised to fly on the first flight.

Armenian Physicists Make A Contribution To Higgs Boson Discovery!

ARMENIAN PHYSICISTS MAKE A CONTRIBUTION TO HIGGS BOSON DISCOVERY!

arminfo
Thursday, July 26, 17:16

Galleries Boson of Higgs

Groups of Armenian physicists from the Yerevan Physics Institute
(YerPhI) (currently the A.I.Alikhanyan National Science Laboratory
(Yerevan Physics Institute) Foundation) have also participated in the
work over possible Higgs boson discovery, Director of the Foundation,
Professor Ashot Chilingaryan, corresponding fellow of the Armenian
National Academy of Sciences, head of the group of the Armenian
scientists in the Compact Muon Solenoid (CMS) experiment Albert
Sirunyan, Doctor of Physical and Mathematical Sciences, participant
in the ATLAS experiment (A Toroidal LHC ApparatuS) Hrachya Hakobyan
say in their interview with ArmInfo.

Chilingaryan says that the Higgs boson discovery, which was announced
on 4 July 2012, was the key goal of the experiments at the Large
Hadron Collider (LHC) of the Conseil Europeen pour la Recherche
Nucleaire (CERN) in Switzerland. He points out that the groups
of YerPhI scientists have been participating in the creation of
the LHC detectors since the early 1990s. It was the CMS and ATLAS
experiments, in which the Armenian physicists participated, that gave
the experimental confirmation of the new particle believed to be the
long-sought Higgs boson. Chilingaryan says that alongside with the
experienced physicists, who have been taking part in the experiments
for 20 years, young scientists are also co-authors of the Higgs boson
discovery and many other interesting results. “Though the lists of the
co- authors contain dozens of thousands of surnames, each Armenian
scientist and young specialist, who took part in the experiments,
made his own contribution to the generation of the results. This is
proved by the young scientists’ theses on the basis of LHC materials,
which are annually defended at YerPhI”, he says.

He says that two years ago the Government of Armenia started allocating
funds for the groups of Armenian scientists to participate in the
experiments and not to depend on the grants provided by foreign or
international organizations. “The general success of the work over
the search of the Higgs boson has proved that the funds allocated by
the Government of Armenia were not wasted”, Chilingaryan says.

Albert Sirunyan says that according to the agreement signed with
the Government of Armenia, since 1994 the Armenian physicists and
engineers have had the opportunity to participate in the scientific
experiments conducted on the CERN accelerators. Since 1995 the
Armenian scientists started taking part in the creation of equipment
for the LHC. He points out that the time when the Armenian physicists
started creating equipment for the detectors coincided with the hard
times for Armenia, when the electric power was released for several
hours a day, and trifling sums were spent on the science. However,
the Armenian physicists managed to find different ways of financing,
particularly, grants, and to take part in creation of these powerful
detectors, with each of them costing up to 500 mln CHF.

Hrachya Hakobyan says that since 1993 Armenia has been participating
in the LHC project as an author of technical equipment, components,
and detectors. “Actually, not a single country of the region takes such
part in the LHC, and among the CIS countries only Russia, Ukraine and
Belarus take part in the project. As a result, the Armenian physicists
participated in all the phases of creation and establishment of the
LHC, including tool engineering, experimental works, study of the
parameters of detectors and equipment before their final assembling,
checkout and launch”, he says. The scientist adds that the Armenian
physicists control all this equipment, keeping the relevant watch. In
addition, they remotely (from Yerevan) watch the quality of dimensions
for data processing, using grid computing.

As regards the benefit Armenia gained from its participation in the
LHC creation operations and the Higgs boson discovery experiments,
Albert Sirunyan singles out two aspects. First and foremost, this is
an exclusive opportunity for training of young specialists at CERN, and
the state support program contributed to this. He stresses that Armenia
has strong traditions in high-energy physics: there was an electron
accelerator at YerPhI, the Armenian physicists have always been in the
foreground in the sphere of studying the electromagnetic interaction
of high energies. Today these traditions continue despite the fact
that there is no opportunity now to use the outdated accelerator of
YerPhI. On the other hand, the technological capacities of foreign
high-energy physics centers are widely applied, including those of
not only CERN, but also the Jefferson Lab in the USA, the Deutsches
Elektronen-Synchrotron in Germany. Sirunyan says that thanks to the
participation in these centers’ projects, YerPhI’s image remains
high and the possibilities for development of high-energy physics in
Armenia are maintained.

He also stresses that the participation in the LHC construction allowed
bringing new technologies to Armenia. For instance, a new technology of
production of special ceramic bases for the LHC detectors was applied
at Mars Plant. A tender was announced for production of these bases
with participation of companies from several countries, and Mars won
the tender. As a result, 5 thsd ceramic bases were produced at this
plant and delivered to CERN for making detectors at the LHC.

The head of the Armenian team of scientists in the CMS experiment says
that in 2013 YerPhI is going to organize a scientific conference in
Armenia (supposedly in Nor Amberd international conference center,
on the slopes of Mount Aragats). The conference will cover the new
results of the CERN experiments on the Higgs boson discovery.

RUSSIA TO KEEP NAVAL BASE IN SYRIA’S TARTUS

PanARMENIAN.Net
July 26, 2012 – 13:31 AMT

PanARMENIAN.Net – Russia will keep its naval base in the Syrian port
of Tartus, Navy chief Vice Admiral Viktor Chirkov said on Thursday,
July 26, according to RIA Novosti.

“The Russian Navy’s supply center in the Syrian port of Tartus will
be preserved. We need it to provide maintenance and technical support
to Russian warships during anti-piracy missions in the Gulf of Aden,”
Chirkov said during an online broadcast, adding that the Mediterranean
was the Black Sea Fleet’s strategic operational area.

The navy commander also said that several Russian warships are
currently holding drills in the Mediterranean, but will not enter
Tartus.

In late June, Moscow dismissed media reports that a large Russian
amphibious ship carrying weapons and troops was en route to
violence-hit Syria.
