Vegetables With Arsenic And Honey With Mercury

VEGETABLES WITH ARSENIC AND HONEY WITH MERCURY

Vegetables with arsenic and honey with mercury – these are the results
of development of ore mining industry in Armenia.

“Almost all the regions with ore mining industry have experienced
penetration of heavy metals into food chains. As a result, the local
population in many regions is almost deprived of the opportunity to eat
uncontaminated products”, Armen Saghatelyan, Director of the Center for
Ecological-Noosphere Studies (CENS) of the National Academy of Sciences
of Armenia, told ArmInfo. He added that the thorough scientific surveys
have shown that the key risk factor is not the main ore elements but
the secondary elements, i.e. the admixtures, which are not taken into
account when preparing the feasibility studies of development of the
deposits. Saghatelyan brought the example of the mercury in Kajaran
deposit, which penetrated not only into the vegetables and fruits,
but also into the milk and honey.

Saghatelyan pointed out that very high cadmium contamination has
been revealed near Akhatala deposit, and in Alaverdi the agricultural
products are mostly contaminated with lead, which is an element of the
first class of hazard. “One more example is the Ararat gold recovery
plant. The tailing dump is not in a good state, and arsenic leakage
has repeatedly registered there. The outskirts are also contaminated
with arsenic”, the expert said.

As regards Yerevan, some part of the concentrates from Kajaran is
processed here, and, this results in pollution of the environment
with molybdenum and mercury. This does not concern only the air:
this year a hyperadmissible concentration has been revealed in the
mulberry that grows in the territory of the town. Moreover, the
samples have been taken in several parts of the town. Saghatelyan
stressed that the heavy metals are very dangerous: they accumulate in
the human organism and influence the heredity and reproduction. In
addition, people can eat food with big content of mercury or lead,
but the effect may be visible only in several years, in decades,
and even among the representatives of the next generations.

The metal pollution also affects the soil fertility. For instance, in
Kapan, where the soil of Syunik community is very much contaminated,
the farmers were complaining of the fact that the soil fertility
declined for several times. This is already a problem of food safety,
Saghatelyan said.

MINISTRY OF DIASPORA DOES NOT CONSIDER THERE IS MASS FLOW BY SYRIAN ARMENIANS

ARMENPRESS

YEREVAN

YEREVAN, JULY 27, ARMENPRESS: Armenia is ready to create necessary
conditions in the case mass flow observed by Syrian Armenians . At
the briefing with Armenpress, Ministry of Diaspora, Syrian Armenians
problems Coordinator Working Group head Firdus Zakaryan stated,
mostly Syrian Armenians come to Armenia by a limited time, aimed at
staying aloof from conflict zone.

“The majority have come to stay a couple of weeks: there is no sign
of mass immigration. The actions taking place currently in Aleppo
are followed that of Damascus, a city also habited by Armenians. The
situation in Damascus is peaceful, no danger threatening the life of
anybody” Zakaryan noted.

In the words of the interlocutor the actions of civil war at the moment
hosted in Aleppo would not last long. The launched incidents are not
directed against Armenians: there is no anti Armenian atmosphere by
Arabs. Yet we cannot guarantee that our compatriots may suffer during
the shillings.

“Reportedly the ones who wanted to come Armenia, have already got
tickets. “Armavia” had sold down the tickets for the flight up to
August 27, three not booked tickets have remained. So not everybody
wishes to return Armenia. They have lived their life in Syria, no
matter it is broken currently, they have their fortune, jobs there,
which they do not want just to quit” Zakaryna concluded.

Syrian Armenian problems Coordinator Working Group was created during
two months, which deals with the issues raised by Syrian Armenians
addressed to the Ministry of Diaspora.

According to the Syrian Human Rights Organization data 17 thousand
192 people died because of the Syrian 16 months ongoing clashes. The
Arab media reports that among the dead11 thousand 897 were peaceful
civilians, and 4348 were security officers. Among the victims there
were 7 Armenians, 2 of which were the Syrian Army militaries. The
Syrian riots make the Syrians leave the country appearing in other
countries as refugees. Recently the Armenian community representatives
also leave the country. The refugee status or asylum applications from
Syria are considered in an accelerated procedure, at least ten days.

On July 26, Armenian government introduced amendments to the earlier

Executive Body verified that Armenian nationality foreign citizens

ONU (Organisation des Nations unies)

26 juillet 2012 – Le Secretaire general Ban Ki-moon a, jeudi, rendu

l’ex-Yougoslavie : Slovenie, Croatie, Montenegro, Serbie, Kosovo,

Azerbaijan Has No Serious Counter-Arguments Against The NKR Democrat

AZERBAIJAN HAS NO SERIOUS COUNTER-ARGUMENTS AGAINST THE NKR DEMOCRATIC ELECTIONS: AZERI POLITICIAN

ARMENPRESS
25 July, 2012
YEREVAN

Yerevan, July 25, ARMENPRESS: Azerbaijan has no serious
counter-arguments against the NKR democratic elections. As “Armenpress”
reports the political interpreter Rauf Mirkadirov has written about
this in the Azerbaijani “Zerkalo” newspaper.

To his word, the Parliamentary elections of Armenia and the
democratic presidential elections of NKR are going to be used against
Azerbaijan for exerting pressure, which does not have any serious
counter-arguments in this dispute.

The author notes that in the recent Armenian Parliamentary elections
the ruling Republican party and its ally “Legal State” party received
less than 50% of the voters in the proportional system. If not the
deputies elected by the plurality system the Armenia’s ruling party
could not make a majority in the Parliament. At the moment 40% of the
Armenian Parliament deputies are the opposition representatives. In
the NKR presidential elections the opposition candidate received the
1/3rd part of the voters.

“What do we see in Azerbaijan? In the Azerbaijani Milli Mejlis only
10 MPs represent not an opposition but the so called parliamentary
minority. It is even less than the 10% of the Parliament. But it is
not all. The majority of the deputies representing the parliamentary
minority jointly vote with the ruling majority. Thus, the deputies of
the Parliament, which can be at least characterized as an opposition,
are not more than 3%.

As for the upcoming presidential elections in Azerbaijan, the
“Independent-pro-government” sociological surveys services have
already announced that the ruling party’s candidate, the current
president of the state Ilham Aliyev will get “a bit less than 100%”
of the voters. Such things never happen in democratic states”,
outlined the Azeri political interpreter.

What Russian Speaker’s Visit Indicated

WHAT RUSSIAN SPEAKER’S VISIT INDICATED
Naira Hayrumyan

Story from Lragir.am News:

Published: 13:57:54 – 25/07/2012

Apparently, Armenia has diversified its foreign relations and is
likely to cooperate with Russia on security and with Europe on
political and economic issues.

Meeting with the Russian Duma Speaker Sergey Narishkin who called to
join the Eurasian Union and sign the CIS Free Trade Area agreement
in autumn but Serzh Sargsyan did not reply “yes”. It is notable that
Serzh Sargsyan focused on two aspects. He said strong relations with
Russia are the cornerstone of security of Armenia. It means Russia
prefers bilateral relations with Russia without joining the proposed
unions. Besides, Serzh Sargsyan shows that such cooperation is possible
only on security.

In official information on Narishkin’s meetings there is no word on
CSTO, CIS, FTA and Eurasian Union. And it is not a surprise because
on the same day in Brussels Edward Nalbandyan negotiated accelerated
integration with the EU and the Armenian reforms donor conference.

In Yerevan Sergey Narishkin made interesting statements. He said the
European Union would like to unite its hi-tech and financial potential
with the natural wealth and scientific potential of the the Eurasian
space. He thinks a unified space stretching from Lisbon to Vladivostok
will result.

It means Armenia faces a choice between the EU’s technological
and financial potential and the reserves of raw materials of the
Eurasian Union.

It is also notable that Narishkin confessed the CSTO is a military
alliance created to ensure Eurasian integration. “Eurasian integration
takes place under changeable international circumstances, the principle
of indivisible and equal security is not observed. Our countries
undergo the use of double standard, export of color revolutions,
discriminatory lists, the danger of terrorism and drug trafficking
persists. In response to present-day challenges and threats military
and political cooperation in the framework of the CSTO must be
strengthened on both bilateral and multi-lateral basis,” he stated.
