AZERBAIJANI TV CHANNEL PUTS ARMENIA IN UNFAVORABLE LIGHT

Tert.am got a video with the reader referring to daily
Armenian-language news by an Azeri TV channel broadcasting
anti-Armenian propaganda.

The reader says that, but for Russia, Armenia would not be on the
map now.

The video deals with emigration from Armenia.

Although Armenia considers Turkey its enemy, thousands of Armenians are
fleeing there to earn their living, the reader says in fluent Armenian.

The video shows Armenian churches and Echmiadzin.

“But for Russia, Armenia might serve an example of a failure country
like Kyrgyzstan or Moldova,” the reader says.

Le plus long :Tatev en Arménie

L’Arménie a inauguré en 2010 le téléphérique le plus long du monde,
qui enjambe sur une longueur de 5,7 kilomètres les gorges du Vorotan
jusqu’au monastère médiéval de Tatev, dans le sud du pays.
L’aménagement du téléphérique a coûté 13 millions d’euros, financés en
majeure partie par des fonds privés. Un trajet aller se fait en onze
minutes. À son point culminant au-dessus de la gorge, le téléphérique
se situe à une altitude de 320 mètres. Il comprend deux cabines
pouvant transporter chacune 25 passagers.

Armenian president to visit Lebanon

President of Armenia Serzh Sargsyan will leave for the Republic of
Lebanon on an official visit on November 26.

The press service of the president informed News.am that Serzh
Sargsyan will hold meetings with President of Lebanon Michel Suleiman,
Speaker of the Lebanese parliament Nabih Berri and Prime Minister
Niajib Mikati.

President Sargsyan will also meet representatives of the Armenian
community in Lebanon..

Monte Melkonian: “Reality is Often Bitter”

Here are some excerpts of letters written by Monte Melkonian to his wife Seta.

In light of current issues in Armenia and Diaspora once again I ponder
about Monte’s timeless thoughts. Here are just a few…(S.M.)

`I wrote that I was very eager to talk with you in depth about our
people’s situation today. I said there were very many bitter and sad
realities we had to understand. Yes, hokis, reality is often bitter
but nevertheless it is reality we have to look it straight into the
face, live through it, and someday change it. Until we change it we
have to do many things we’d prefer not doing; we have to be
responsible and politically realistic. When we’re together I’ll
explain as best I can, and I’m sure you’ll understand. The fact is
that an enormous amount of people do very bad things- things that are
against our people’s true interests- without even knowing it. Many of
them are even convinced they’re doing something good and necessary.
This is the case not only with Tashnaks, but also with most Ramgavars
and Henchaks. That’s how it is that some of the nicest and most
patriotic people have led our Diaspora into this terrible situation
over 70 years. Without political clear mindedness the people with the
best intentions can do a lot of harm. In one of your letters years and
years ago you remarked that I was a very demanding (Õ – Õ½Õ¿Õ¡ÕºÕ¡Õ°Õ¡Õ¶Õ»)
person. Yes, at least in the patriotic issues I am because I take our
people, our homeland and our future very, very seriously. No one has
the right to not be a demanding person.

¦our Diaspora is in a terribly bad situation. Worse than we think at
first sight. Despite all this we must find a way to push forward. We
must create a hard working positive trend that will overcome the
difficulties one-by-one. It will be very hard, but we must do it.

My dear, while writing all of this, another subject has come to my
mind: that of emotions and serious work. You know I am really very
full of emotions- love for you, our people, our homeland, our family,
for all of mankind, for nature, for knowledge; and hatred for the
enemies of all the above. Believe me, my emotions are very intense.
But at the same time I realize, that to do anything constructive and
good I must control my emotions. This is not at all easy, and I don’t
always succeed. (In the special case of my love for you I don’t even
want to `control’ it [¦.] But you’re a very special case) However, as
far as possible I do try to control things since I know it is
absolutely necessary in any serious work. Sometimes it’s like torture
but we have to do it anyway. I have seen many Armenians (and not
Armenians) blinded by emotions which have led them into irrational
actions. We must learn to be intelligent, thinking logical human
beings. We must learn to control our emotions and if possible find
ways to use these emotions to reinforce our work, instead of
misguiding or confusing us. We must do this because we must take
ourselves seriously. Seta, you and I have an enormous amount to give
to each other. We also have a lot to give to our people (perhaps even
to other peoples) [¦.] Our life will be one big difficult, wonderful
whole. We must create.

TURQUIE
Les Arméniens vont construire une école à Istanbul

La communauté arménienne en Turquie a reçu l’autorisation de
construire sa première école dans le quartier de Bakirkoy à Istanbul
qui devrait être achevée dans deux ans.

La communauté construira l’école avec son propre financement en plus
de l’aide de la municipalité de Bakirkoy. L’école, qui devrait coûter
4,5 milliards de Lires Turques, sera construite sur 1750 mètres carrés
de terrain. La fondation de l’école a prise cette décision le 18
novembre.

S’exprimant dans le quotidien tuc Hürriyet, le président du conseil
exécutif de la fondation de l’Eglise Surp Asdvazsazsin de Bakirkoy
Mesut Ozdemir a dit qu’ils ont eu le plaisir d’obtenir l’autorisation
appropriée après 10 années de tentatives.

« Pendant la période du gouvernement du parti Justice et Développement
(AKP) beaucoup de pas ont été pris pour nous appuyer. Maintenant nous
pouvons construire une école » a dit M.Ozdemir.

Istanbul a une population arménienne forte de 50000 membres avec 12
écoles arméniennes. M.Ozdemir a dit qu’une autre école était
nécessaire. « Nous y avons reçu quelques critiques ; cependant, le
btiment actuel de l’école a 166 ans et il est petit. Nous avons 400
élèves et nous voulons qu’ils reçoivent une éducation moderne dans un
btiment qui respecte les standards d’aujourd’hui. Plus important,
puisque le btiment de l’école est historique, on interdit strictement
la restauration. Donc nous ne pouvions pas y construire de salles de
classe complémentaires. Par conséquent, nous avions besoin d’un
nouveau btiment ».

Bien que le tire de propriété ou va se construire la nouvelle école
ait appartenu à la communauté arménienne, il a été employé par la
municipalité pendant des années. « Nous ne pouvions pas revendiquer le
terrain car il était employé par la municipalité comme secteur vert
mais maintenant ils nous l’ont rendu » a dit M.Ozdemir ajoutant que le
nouveau btiment serait achevé dans deux ans et servirait comme
nouveau btiment de l’École Dadyan.

Quelques projets ont été développés pour préserver le vieux btiment aussi.

L’École Dadyan a été construite selon l’ordre du Sultan Selim III
pendant la période Ottomane. Nubar Manavyan, qui travaille sur le
projet a dit « Nous avons développé un plan prenant la structure du
btiment historique en considération. Ce sera une école moderne
occupant plus de 1750 mètres carrés de terrain. Elle aura 16 salles de
classe, un jardin d’enfants, une salle de sports, une bibliothèque et
un hall de conférence avec la capacité de recevoir 220 personnes, qui
répondra aux exigences du nouveau système éducatif ».

Reconnaissance
G. Minassian et V. Andréassian honorés par la Société de Géographie

Samedi 24 novembre, à la Société de Géographie, Françoise
Ardillier-Carras, Vice-présidente de la Société de Géographie et
arménophile ( NAM : n°188) qui a consacré de nombreux ouvrages à
l’Arménie avec Olivier Balabanian, dont le dernier s’intitule
l’Arménie Russe (NAM : n° 185), a remis dans le cadre du Grand
amphithétre, le Prix Charles Grad 2012 (créé en 1892) de la Société
de géographie à Vazken Andréassian et Jean Margat pour leur
remarquable ouvrage « Rivières et rivaux, les frontières de l’eau »
(éditions Quae), un livre qui avait déjà obtenu le prestigieux Prix
Ptolémée de la Société de Géographie 2012, décerné le 12 octobre au
Festival international de géographie de St Dié les Vosges.

Vazken Andréassian et Jean Margat analysent les frontières physiques
et humaines qui délimitent l’inégale répartition des eaux sur terre.
D’où vient l’eau des rivières ? Par où passe la frontière fluviale ?
Comment inventorier les ressources en eau ? Des rivalités
emblématiques liées à l’eau sont présentées pour des fleuves
transfrontaliers comme le Tigre et l’Euphrate, le Nil, le Jourdain, le
Rhin, le Colorado, l’Indus…

Sont dévoilées les raisons qui rendent les conflits liés au partage de
l’eau des rivières si complexes. Enfin, les auteurs examinent les
raisons d’espérer, et de désespérer, au sujet de l’eau et des conflits
qui pourraient concerner son partage équitable dans le futur.

En outre, le sociologue et politologue Gaïdz Minassian, désormais
membre de la Société de Géographie, a été honoré par le Prix Marie
Joséphine Juglar (créé en 1912) pour son ouvrage « Zone Grise : Quand
les Etats perdent le contrôle » paru aux éditions Autrement.

Qu’elles portent les germes de la guerre, ou qu’elles revendiquent la
légalité et la légitimité, les zones grises semblent annoncer le
chaos. Pourtant elles interrogent aussi, à juste titre, notre
conception de l’Etat, les critères de l’autorité légitime et le
système international tel qu’il est organisé. Les Etats seraient-ils
responsables de leur prolifération ? Autant de problématiques abordées
dans ce livre qui, pour la première fois, croise une réflexion
approfondie sur la notion même de zone grise et des analyses de cas
concrets et contemporains, depuis la zone contemporains, depuis la
zone contrôlée par les FARC en Colombie jusqu’à nos banlieues
françaises.

COMMUNAUTE-VALENCE (DRÔME)
Cérémonie à l’Eglise Saint Sahag de Valence à la mémoire des victimes
du génocide arménien

Dans le cadre de la semaine de conférences, spectacles et cérémonies
dédiées au 20e anniversaire de la Consécration de l’Eglise arménienne
Saint Sahag de Valence, une manifestation s’est déroulée samedi 24
novembre à 16 heures dans la cour de l’Eglise devant le khatchkar
(croix de pierre arménienne). Une cérémonie dédiée aux victimes du
génocide arménien de 1915. De nombreux élèves de l’école arménienne
ainsi que des élus et personnalités étaient présents. Parmi eux Henri
Siranyan, le président de l’association cultuelle de l’Eglise
arménienne Saint Sahag. De nombreuses personnalités du monde
associatif telles que Georges Eretzian, Sonia Sarkissian, Georges
Rastklan assistaient également à la cérémonie. A noter la présence de
Pierre Charignon, Vicaire Général du Diocèse de l’Eglise catholique de
Valence. En compagnie du Père Antranig Maldjian, Mgr Daron Geregian
ont procédé aux prières à la mémoire des victimes du génocide
arménien. Mgr Daron Geregian a ensuite rappelé l’importance de cette
mémoire du génocide et remercié les organisateurs d’avoir intégrer
dans leur programme cette célébration qui se termina par le dépôt de
gerbes.

ARAM I HAS LEFT FOR CAIRO TO CONGRATULATE NEW POPE OF THE COPTIC CHURCH

YEREVAN, NOVERMBER 23, ARMENPRESS. His Holiness Catholicos Aram I of
the Holy See of Cilicia has left for Cairo to congratulate personally
the newly elected Pope of the Coptic Church Tawadros II. The Catholicos
was accompanied by the Primate of the Armenian Diocese of Tehran
Archbishop Sebouh Sarkissian, Archbishop Nareg Alemezian (Inter
Church Relations Department) and Archimandrite Mesrop Sargisyan. The
Catholicosate of the Holy See of Cilicia informed “Armenpress”
that Aram I greeted Tawadros II and emphasized the age-old fraternal
relations of the Coptic and Armenian Churches and the necessity of a
new impulse for the present close cooperation between the two churches.

Pope Tawadros II supported the suggestions of His Holiness and referred
to the contributions and merits of Aram I. More than 50 archbishops and
civilians partook in the solemn dinner of the Pope and His Holiness. At
the course of the dinner Aram I discussed current situation in Egypt
with the Patriarch. At the same day His Holiness Catholicos Aram I
of the Holy See of Cilicia returned to Antelias.

“PERHAPS, IT IS THE ONLY TOWN, WHERE THERE ARE NO JOBS,” CITIZENS OF SPITAK ARE RESENTFUL (VIDEO)

Talking about creating jobs in the Republic of Armenia at the opening
ceremony of the 22nd scientific session on the subject Increasing
National Economic Competitiveness that took

place in the State University of Economics, Prime Minister Tigran
Sargsyan stated that there was a psychological situation – able-bodied
members of needy families were not willing to work, although they
could earn 100-120 thousand AMD instead of 30-50-thousand-AMD social
benefit. “We should overcome this psychological complex, in order
that a man provides for his family with his work.”

So does it turn out that there are jobs in the country, but there are
no workers? Is it the real picture, particularly in regions? A small
survey conducted by among the residents of the town
of Spitak showed that the majority of them either don’t have a job,
or are paid very little, or are compelled to look for a job abroad.

A middle-aged resident of Spitak explained that the reason for
the current situation was the fact that there was no factory. The
residents of Spitak say the following to the Prime Minister: “Let
the Prime Minister find us a job. Let him say where, in order that
people know. Otherwise, it is empty talk.”

Another resident of Spitak resented that “there is no youth in town,
there are only old people, and they idle about the whole day. Perhaps,
it is the only town, where there are no jobs.”

A woman said in despair that when she applied for a job, she was told
that “there is no job that suits your age.”

Many youths that talked to us don’t even think about looking for a job.

ARMENIAN CONSUL MEETS ADJARA’S PRESIDENT

Armenian Consul General to Adjara Aram Grigoryan has met the country’s
new president, Archil Khabadze.

According to a press release by Armenia’s Foreign Ministry, issues
of mutual interest were discussed at the meeting. The diplomat
congratulated the Adjaran leader on his appointment, expressing hope
that the mutually beneficial cooperation between the autonomous
republic and the Armenian Consulate General will continue during
his tenure.

The Adjaran president briefed Grigoryan on their new programs and
the plans for completing the projects under way.

The sides further addressed the construction of the
Batumi-Khulo-Akhaltskhe-Bavra highway which is of key importance to
Armenia. Khabadze said that his country’s leadership is committed to
complete the project.

The roadway is expected to cut in half Georgia’s traffic communication
with Armenia, enabling tourists to more frequently visit the Adjarian
resorts.

The Armenian diplomat and the Adjaran leader also addressed a broad
framework of issues related to the local Armenians. Khabadze emphasized
the importance of the community’s role in different spheres of the
country’s life.

At the end, the sides considered possibilities of deepening cooperation
between the sister cities and towns of Adjaria and Armenia’s Lori
region.
