EDGAR HOVHANNISYAN, “IT IS ARMENIA’S DIPLOMATIC SUCCESS THAT DRAFT RESOLUTION ON NAGORNO KARABAKH PUT FORTH BY AZERBAIJAN AT UN GENERAL ASSEMBLY HAS NOT BEEN DISCUSSED”

YEREVAN

YEREVAN, SEPETMBER 10, ARMENPRESS: It is Armenia’s diplomatic success
that the draft resolution on Nagorno Karabakh put forth by Azerbaijan
has not been discussed at the UN General Assembly, Candidate of
Historical Sciences Edgar Hovhannisyan said today at a meeting with
journalists, referring to the withdrawal of the Azerbaijani draft
resolution from voting.

According to him, such a decision of Azerbaijan has two reasons –
first, the Armenian diplomacy has carried out distinct works not to
let the issue enter into the session of the General Assembly and
second, big powers do not wish the NK issue to come out from the
frameworks of the OSCE Minsk group. Member of a public council
subordinated to the Armenian Defense Ministry, military expert Davit
Jamalyan noted that even if the draft resolution was adopted, it would
not have a legal power and would not present a risk, besides that, the
big powers would not vote for it.

“Azerbaijan tries to include the concept of “occupied territories” in
the circles of the international community: Armenia must carry out
serious works and be consistent in circulation of right terms
connected with that issue,” Mr. Jamalyan noted. Referring to the
diversion operations implemented by Azerbaijan, the military expert
considered their turning into extensive war operations less possible.

“But we must be rational and always ready; there is always a risk of
war. Nobody can defend our borders better than we, we must strengthen
our fighting capacity even more,” Mr. Jamalyan said.
