EX-POLITICAL PRISONER HOLDS DAILY PROTESTS

Tert.am
24.12.10

Ex-political prisoner and member of the opposition Armenian National
Congress (ANC) has been holding protest outside the Justice Ministry’s
Department of Penitentiaries every day since last Monday.

“I call for stopping violence against political prisoners,
particularly, against Nikol Pashinyan,” he told Tert.am.

Asked whether anyone from the Department had met with him, he said
only two policemen from the police department of Shengavit district
had seen him and asked him to quit the area.

“I told them they didn’t have the right to tell me anything of the
kind,” Gaspari said.

He also added he had no written notice or letter to submit to the
Department. “I have nothing to hand to them. My demand is clearly
written on my poster – Keep your dirty hands off Nikol.”

Gaspari said he will continue his protest until the New Year’s
holidays.

Sasun Mikaelyan Underwent Medical Check-Up, Not Surgery

SASUN MIKAELYAN UNDERWENT MEDICAL CHECK-UP, NOT SURGERY

Tert.am
24.12.10

Political prisoner Sasun Mikaelyan currently serving his sentence
in the hospital for inmates has been reported to have undergone two
heart surgeries.

A statement issued by the Justice Ministry’s Penitentiary Department
said the information is wrong and aims to render Mikaelyan’s health
condition as extremely grave. It further says that the convict
underwent a stent procedure once while being in detention.

Thereafter, some post-surrgery check-ups were prescribed, the last
being conducted on December 22. Some media outlets misrepresented the
information by saying that Mikayelyan underwent the second surgery,
says the statement.

Schiff Regrets Failure Of House Leadership To Schedule Vote On Genoc

SCHIFF REGRETS FAILURE OF HOUSE LEADERSHIP TO SCHEDULE VOTE ON GENOCIDE BILL

by Asbarez
Thursday, December 23rd, 2010

WASHINGTON-Rep. Adam Schiff (D-CA) released a statement Thursday
commenting on the adjournment of the 11th Congress and its failure
to bring to a vote the Armenian Genocide Resolution, H.Res.252.

“For the past several weeks, several of my colleagues and I have
been engaged in a full-press effort to secure Floor consideration
and passage of H. Res. 252, the Armenian Genocide Resolution,” Schiff
said in the statement. “We believed that Turkey’s burgeoning alliance
with Iran, its support for Hamas, and its insincere promise to seek
reconciliation with modern Armenia would finally serve to offset
Turkey’s shameful campaign of denial.”

“I am deeply disappointed that the Congress has now recessed without
passing the resolution to honor the 1.5 million Armenian men, women
and children who were lost in the first genocide of the Twentieth
Century,” Schiff said. “I know that my feelings are insignificant
when compared to the continued pain of so many in our community.”

“To my many thousands of Armenian-American constituents and friends,
I pledge to you that I will continue to press for recognition of the
Armenian Genocide until the memory of those who perished from 1915-23
is formally and forever preserved in our national consciousness,”
he said.

a dit Sargsian. ” Et pendant la periode où ils veulent employer leurs
voitures ils devront signer un contrat avec une societe d’assurance
et acheter une police d’assurance “.

Kim Kardashian: Political Request From Kardashian Of Kobe

KIM KARDASHIAN: POLITICAL REQUEST FROM KARDASHIAN OF KOBE
by ThirdAge News Staff

Third Age

Dec 23 2010

AAA.Kim Kardashian has a request for Kobe Bryant for Christmas.

The reality tv star urged Bryant to opt out of a 2-year contract
with Turkish Airlines. Kobe wants to stay out of the politics, and he
reportedly told Kim that he’s signed it and will not be calling it off.

Now Kim is turning to her sister’s husband Lamar Odom, one of Kobe’s
teammate.

According to the report of News.am, about 2 weeks ago Kim Kardashian
launched a campaign on Twitter, urging everyone to call the House
Speaker Nancy Pelosi, demanding to include the resolution number 252,
recognizing 1915 incidents in Ottoman Empire as “Armenian genocide”.

In the early 20th century, the Turks killed 1.5 million Armenians as
part of what they call a period of civil unrest.

However, Kardashian and thousands of other Armenians feel the act
was genocide, and are pushing for it to be called that.

ANKARA: Gul Says Turkey Engaged In Iran Dispute, Karabakh, Iraq

GUL SAYS TURKEY ENGAGED IN IRAN DISPUTE, KARABAKH, IRAQ

Today’s Zaman
Dec 23 2010
Turkey

President Abdullah Gul said Turkey solves its problems, adding that
Turkey has pursued policies of peace in the region.

Gul said following the 11th Summit of Heads of State and Government of
the Economic Cooperation Organization (ECO) that Azerbaijani President
Ilham Aliyev informed the participating leaders on recent developments
about Nagorno-Karabakh dispute. All ECO member states attach great
importance to stability in the region. Stability and security, he said,
are of vital importance for infrastructure investments.

Therefore, Gul said occupation of Nagorno-Karabakh should end as soon
as possible for the development of the region.

Responding to a question about Iran’s nuclear program, Gul said,
Turkey has always pursued an active policy about the issue of Iran.

“We have always advocated that the issue should be resolved through
diplomatic ways,” he said.

“Turkey attaches great importance to stability, cooperation
and solidarity in the region. We also attach great importance to
normalizing our relations with Armenia to this end. We have already
taken some steps. We hope that our countries will resolve the issue
and pave the way for tranquility and stability in the region,”
Turkish president added.

Blue Dog ‘Disappointed’ Controversial Genocide Resolution Didn’t Com

BLUE DOG ‘DISAPPOINTED’ CONTROVERSIAL GENOCIDE RESOLUTION DIDN’T COME TO FLOOR
By Bridget Johnson

The Hill

Dec 23 2010

The 111th Congress adjourned Wednesday without bringing up the latest
incarnation of legislation that would have recognized the 1915 killings
of 1.5 million Armenians by the Ottoman Empire as genocide.

Lobbying groups were on alert over the weekend on reports that Speaker
Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) would bring the resolution to the floor in
the final days of the lame-duck session.

But lawmakers went home for the holidays without passing Rep. Adam
Schiff’s (D-Calif.) resolution, angering Armenian groups and leaving
Turkish groups breathing a sigh of relief.

“[Pelosi’s] decision to not move this legislation forward during her
four years as Speaker represents a failure of Congressional leadership
on human rights and, sadly, a setback to America’s standing in the
struggle to end the cycle of genocide,” Ken Hachikian, chairman of
the Armenian National Committee of America, said in a statement.

The Turkish Coalition of America praised the efforts of the
Congressional Turkish Caucus in keeping the resolution from coming
to the floor.

“Even the sponsors of the resolution realized that legislative
trickery and back room tactics is not how Congress should operate,”
said G. Lincoln McCurdy, TCA president, in a statement.

“We now know that a majority of Congress agrees with President Obama
about the importance of the US-Turkey relationship, and expect this
wisdom to carry over into the 112th Congress so that we can avoid yet
another needless round of bashing our ally Turkey at the expense of
our national interests.”

This Congress wasn’t the first time such a resolution tried to make
it through, but its passage in committee angered Turkey to the point
that it called its ambassador back to Ankara for a time.

Schiff’s resolution, which “calls upon the President to ensure
that the foreign policy of the United States reflects appropriate
understanding and sensitivity concerning issues related to human
rights, ethnic cleansing, and genocide documented in the United States
record relating to the Armenian Genocide,” passed the House Foreign
Affairs Committee on March 4 by a slim margin, 23-22.

A similar resolution was approved by the Foreign Affairs Committee in
2007. Just like this time around, the White House came out against
the resolution, fearing it would damage relations with Turkey, and
Pelosi did not bring the measure to the floor.

Schiff said that he and co-sponsors had launched a “full-press effort”
to get the resolution to the floor in the past weeks.

“We believed that Turkey’s burgeoning alliance with Iran, its support
for Hamas, and its insincere promise to seek reconciliation with modern
Armenia would finally serve to offset Turkey’s shameful campaign of
denial,” Schiff said in a statement.

The Blue Dog Democrat said he was “deeply disappointed” that Congress
recessed without taking up the measure.

“To my many thousands of Armenian-American constituents and friends,
I pledge to you that I will continue to press for recognition of the
Armenian Genocide until the memory of those who perished from 1915-23
is formally and forever preserved in our national consciousness,”
Schiff said.

Obama had promised early in his presidential campaign that he would
call the mass killings genocide if elected. Beginning early in his
term, though, Obama avoided use of the word genocide when asked about
his campaign promise during a press conference in Turkey.

In his Armenian Remembrance Day statements over the past two years,
Obama has avoided use of the word “genocide.”

Schiff’s resolution would have called upon Obama to “accurately
characterize the systematic and deliberate annihilation of 1,500,000
Armenians as genocide” in his annual message.

“Coming in the wake of President Obama’s string of broken promises to
recognize the Armenian Genocide, Speaker Pelosi’s refusal to schedule
a vote on the Armenian Genocide Resolution represents a major breach
of trust with Armenian American voters,” Hachikian said.

Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan sent Obama a letter
Monday asking him to prevent the vote, warning that it could damage
ties between the two countries.

“We cannot allow the resolution to hang over Turkish-U.S. ties like
a Sword of Damocles,” said Foreign Minister Ahmet Davutoglu, who
also urged Secretary of State Hillary Clinton on Friday to keep the
resolution from passing.
