Meet The Chef Of Armenian Delight

MEET THE CHEF OF ARMENIAN DELIGHT

Marple Newton Parch

Feb 11 2011

Armenian Delight2591 W Chester Pike, Broomall,

This week we found out more about the chef-owner of Armenian Delight,
Asdghig Kazanjian.

BROOMALL-This week we sat down with the delightful Asdghig Kazanjian
of Armenian Delight in Broomall and asked her a series of quick-fire
questions. Read below for her hilarious answers and to find out how
this “spoiled, lazy,” Israel-born Armenian woman went on to become
a talented chef and business owner.

Age: Too old…

Earliest Cooking Memory: I was one of the laziest girls growing
up-spoiled, everyone catered to me. I wouldn’t even get my own glass
of water. Everyone warned my soon-to-be-husband. But the minute I got
married (I was 19) I was entertaining guests at our home. I enjoyed
it. It must be natural. I don’t remember learning how to cook but
I guess I was watching my mom and learning. My mother cooked but I
never ate. I only ate cucumbers, fruit, tomatoes, cheese and banana
sandwiches. The simplest dish in Armenian cooking is pilaf. I never
tried it until I got married.

First Job in Industry: Opening Armenian Delight 33 years ago. My
original partner Helen suggested we open a business together after she
saw me cooking all the time. At the time, there wasn’t a store like
ours [specializing in Armenian and Middle Eastern foods]. So we rented
this space. Three years later, Helen didn’t want to be a part of the
business anymore so she left and I’ve been running it alone ever since.

Biggest Kitchen Disaster: We had a big order for baklava, in the
walnut mixture there is a lot of cinnamon and sugar. I accidentally
put in salt [instead of sugar]. The people came back and told me what
happened. I was so upset [at myself] and it never happened again.

Mistakes happen. Mistakes are allowed…repeated mistakes are bad. You
must learn from your mistakes.

Favorite Thing to Cook: Creating a new recipe. We make everything
here. I enjoy everything.

Advice to Home Cooks: Get your information from a good source. Don’t
go to TV chefs to learn about Armenian food, ask me. They don’t know
what they are talking about. Enjoy cooking.

Favorite Local Restaurant: Ale House in Newtown Square

Favorite Restaurant in the World: Beirut, Lebanon, has the best
restaurants in the world.

Guilty Pleasure: Cigarettes

Last Meal on Earth: Red wine and cigarettes while wearing a St. John
dress.

Artsakh former Foreign Minister Arman Melikyan made remarks in a
meeting with the reporters over Sumgayit events. According to him
Azerbaijan blames Armenian side for the Sumgayit events hiding the
real sinfuls.

“Sumgayit events happened many years ago, but people who saw and lived
those days, can never forget them. Armenia and Nagorno-Karabakh don’t
have a united targeted policy towards NK conflict and protection of
rights of Azerbaijani Armenian refugees,” A. Melikyan said.

A. Melikyan hailed the idea of making film series about Sumgayit
events, but added with regret that they are not a part of RA policy.

Artsakh former FM said that the rights of Azerbaijani Armenians are

ARMENIAN FM SAYS BAKU TRYING TO MAKE FUSS OVER KARABAKH INSTEAD OF ACTING

Azerbaijan is more interested in discussions over the Karabakh
conflict in other formats rather than progress in talks within the
OSCE Minks Group, Armenian Foreign Minister said on Friday commenting
on sub-committee on Karabakh in PACE.

“First of all opinion of the OSCE Minsk Group Co-Chairs should be
taken into account, as they are familiar with evolution of the peace
process and current situation,” Edward Nalbandian said at a joint press
conference with his Ukrainian counterpart Kostyantyn Gryshchenko held
in Yerevan.

Minister Nalbandian stressed Azerbaijan is trying to shift domestic
propaganda to the international arena. Baku wants to make a fuss over
the conflict instead of being engaged in its resolution, he added.

Commenting on a report of the International Crisis Group regarding
Karabakh conflict, he noted one should not pour oil on flames before
giving assessments and making forecasts.

“Authors of the report present it as an expert opinion. Different
experts may have various views on the same issue. However, opinions
not always correspond to reality,” Nalbandian stressed.

This January the subcommittee on Nagorno-Karabakh resumed its
activities at the CE Parliamentary Assembly (PACE). Jordi Xucla i
Costa was elected new chairman of PACE sub-committee on Karabakh
during meeting of the PACE bureau.

Illegal Drug Circulation In Armenia Has Doubled

ILLEGAL DRUG CIRCULATION IN ARMENIA HAS DOUBLED

Tert.am
11.02.11

Some 1524 cases of illegal drug circulation were registered in Armenia
last year which resulted in the confiscation of around 127 kg of
various drugs, the Deputy Prosecutor General Aram Tamazyan said at
an extended session at the Prosecutor General’s Office on Friday.

Tamazyan also said that the amount of drugs confiscated in 2009 was
around 57 kg.

According to him, the revelation of such cases, as well as the
effectiveness of the investigation of such cases was improved largely
due to the launching of the special department that deals with the
crimes of this type.

“Thanks to the personal initiative of the head of this department
and the timely measures taken on February 8, 2010, 7 kg of heroine
and 5 kg of opium, smuggled to Armenia from US and worth of $2m,
was revealed and confiscated,” Tamazyan said.

Further, he said that the prosecutors sent 47 criminal cases to the
court in 2010. Those cases involved 114 citizens, Tamazyan added.

He also said that the number of the drug users is increasing year
by year, adding that last year 21 women were charged with illegal
circulation of drugs.
