Turkish authorities are afraid of facing the truth and recognizing
the Armenian Genocide, said Baroness Caroline Cox, Head of the
Armenian-British Parliamentary Friendship Group, in a press conference
at the Armenian National Assembly on Thursday.

She condemned Ankara for denying the Armenian Genocide and said that
recognition of that fact will prevent such terrible crimes against
mankind in future. She recalled the statement Adolf Hitler made when
attacking Poland: “Who remembers the Armenian Genocide?”

She said that time will not heal all sorrows of the Armenian people
until Turkey and the entire world community recognize and condemn the
Armenian Genocide. Baroness Cox said that she had repeatedly raised
the issue of recognition of the Armenian Genocide at the British
Parliament, but insufficient information on this fact creates obstacles
to its recognition.

For his part, House Representative John Wittingdale said that the
Holocaust is much spoken of today unlike the Armenian Genocide. John
Wittingdale said the numerous materials, photos and video records they
watched in the Armenian Genocide Museum-Institute shocked them. He
said they are going to inform their colleagues about what happened
in 1915 in order the British Parliament gets a full idea of the
Armenian Genocide.

The Georgian press was mostly objective in covering the Armenian
Genocide of 1914-18, say a group of Georgian young people, who studied
the Georgian archives for about a year and published the book titled
“The Armenian Genocide in Georgian periodicals of 1914-18.”

Georgian archives are rich in materials on the Armenian Genocide.

However, the periodicals kept in Georgian archives have not yet
been investigated.

The book covers the period from the beginning of 1914 to mid-1918. It
presents in the chronological order the key data from analytical and
other articles in the Georgian press.

Member of Georgia’s “Armenian Student Union” organization Edward
Sahakyan says: “In general the Georgian press presented information
about the Armenian Genocide rather objectively. However, some articles
were obviously financed by the Turkish side.”

“The people of Karabakh should have the opportunity to participate
in the negotiation process,” Chairwoman of the British-Armenian All
Party Parliamentary Group, Vice-Speaker of the House of Lords of the
United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland Caroline Cox
told reporters in Yerevan.

The delegation headed by Baroness Cox comprises members of both
chambers of the British Parliament.

Yesterday the delegation visited Nagorno Karabakh and met the leaders
of Artsakh. The Baroness praised the progress she saw in Karabakh.

“The Nagorno Karabakh issue is a serious one. I would not like to speak
on behalf of the people of Nagorno Karabakh, but they should have the
right to participate in the negotiation process. I see that Armenians
have the political will to move forward on the basis of principles,
but Azeris also need to cooperate,” Baroness Cox said.

Protest Calling On Obama To Recognize Genocide

PROTEST CALLING ON OBAMA TO RECOGNIZE GENOCIDE

Today Armenian Americans from throughout Southern California and across
the American and Armenian political spectrums will join together for
a public protest calling upon President Obama to honor his broken
campaign pledge to recognize the Armenian Genocide, reported the
Armenian National Committee of America (ANCA).

The demonstration, organized by the Armenian Genocide Community Task
Force, will be held outside the President’s first major fundraiser
in Southern California for the “Obama Victory Fund 2012.”

“California’s Armenian American community is eager to see President
Obama in Los Angeles,” stated ANCA Western Region Chairman Andrew
Kzirian, Esq. “With the President’s 2012 reelection effort now under
way, the Armenian American community will remind him of the profound
moral and serious geopolitical costs of his decision to break his
promise to clearly and unequivocally recognize the Armenian Genocide,”
added Kzirian. “In these days leading up to the President’s third April
24th commemoration of this crime, we ask nothing more than that he live
up to his own commitments to bring an end to his Administration’s
complicity in Turkey’s denials. There is no better way to begin
this process than for President Obama to visit the Armenian Genocide
Memorial in Montebello and pay tribute to the victims and survivors
of this still unpunished crime.”

In a series of letters and statements issued as Senator and candidate,
President Obama pledged clearly and unequivocally that he would end
U.S. complicity in Turkey’s genocide denial and properly recognize
this crime against humanity. In a January 18, 2008, statement, in the
days leading up to the Super Tuesday Primary in California, he stated
“As President, I will recognize the Armenian Genocide.”

“He must hear our community’s profound disappointment with his failure
to honor his campaign promise that as President, he would recognize
the Armenian Genocide and deliver justice to the Armenian people.

Being the largest Armenian community in the Diaspora, we must turn
out en masse to send our message loud and clear not only to him,
but to all of the national press that will be assembled there,”
the Task Force said in the call.

Who Is The Implied Witness?

WHO IS THE IMPLIED WITNESS?
NAIRA HAYRUMYAN

Story from Lragir.am News:

Published: 13:52:59 – 21/04/2011

Who is the witness to March 1 events Serge Sargsyan recommends to
interrogate? In a consultation with the law enforcement bodies Serge
Sargsyan actually instructed to launch a new investigation, adding
that the witnesses must be interrogated who earlier were unwilling
to testify and may have changed their decision.

Did Serge Sargsyan hint at definite persons or not? It is not clear but
it is obvious that there are a lot of people whom the court did not
involve in the case intentionally in case they might say undesirable
things. It is possible that they are police officers, bodyguards of
oligarchs, even high-ranking military and police officials who are
presently “permitted” to give some information.

What testimony does Serge Sargsyan expect from witnesses? It is
clear that it is going to be information which will distance him from
accusations of March 1. The witnesses will hardly testify against Levon
Ter-Petrosyan, were there such evidence, it would have been used 3
years ago. Consequently, the accusations will be addressed to members
of the government team. The other option could be a witness doctor,
for instance, who would testify that at the time of making the decision
to start shooting Serge Sargsyan was seriously ill and unable to work.

In brief, the fact that three years later new witnesses are mentioned
means that the law enforcement bodies have covered up the information.

And the fact that the president instructs to launch a new investigation
proves the dependence of courts which had closed the case.

The Book "The Armenian Genocide As Reflected In The Georgian Press 1

THE BOOK “THE ARMENIAN GENOCIDE AS REFLECTED IN THE GEORGIAN PRESS 1914-1918” PUBLISHED

12:52, April 21, 2011

On April 20, in the venue of the National Parliamentary Library of
Georgia “The Armenian Genocide as reflected in the Georgian press
1914-1918” edition was officially presented to the public. The
idea of the compilation belongs to “Armenian Community of Georgia”
and “Armenian Student Association of Georgia”, and the project was
fulfilled by these organizations. The project was sponsored by the
Georgian office of the European Armenian Federation (EAFJD) and
“Armenian Community of Georgia.”

This compilation contains the archive materials of the National
Parliamentary Library of Georgia, stored at the Georgian press
branch – all dealing with the issue of the Armenian Genocide. The
aforementioned publication contains materials of three Georgian
newspapers (“Sakartvelo”, “Samshoblo”, “Sakhalkho purtseli”) and the
“Klde” magazine – all dealing with the issue of the Armenian Genocide.

“Armenian Community of Georgia” Press service reports that the board
of “Armenian Student Union of Georgia”, which worked on bringing
the book together, consisted of Aleksandr Ohanyan, Artur Mirzoyan,
Razmik Badalyan, Gevorg Yagutov and Eduard Sahakyan, who researched the
archive materials for one year, and thereafter compiled this edition.

The preface to the publication was written by Dr. Otar Janelidze, a
history professor, who underlined, that the materials presented in the
publication express the attitude of the Georgian press and the Georgian
society toward the tragedy that the Armenian people faced in Turkey.

“The main purpose of the book is to boost the effort of the scientific
circles of Georgian in studying the vast materials base, that is kept
at the Georgian archives, and thereby to enhance the existing picture
of what is known about the Armenian Genocide,” says Aleksandr Ohanyan,
one of the initiators of the book project.

The chairman of “Armenian Student Association of Georgia”, Armen
Aghajanov, stressed that the aim of the publication of “The Armenian
Genocide as reflected in the Georgian press 1914-1918” is also
to familiarize the Georgian reader with the historical fact of the
Genocide, since this subject has been silenced and tabooed in Georgia
for several decades of years.

ARMENIAN PRESIDENT: UNIFIED ENFORCEMENT OF LAWS KEY OBJECTIVES OF JUDICIAL REFORMS

YEREVAN

YEREVAN, April 21. /ARKA/. Unified interpretation and enforcement of
laws, especially by courts, must become one of the key objectives of
judicial reforms, Armenian President Serzh Sargsyan said Wednesday
at his meeting with law enforcement officials.

“Examination of judicial practice showed that broadly-worded laws
give room for controversial practice,” he said. “I don’t say that
this began now. This fault existed forever, but we must combat it,
especially after adoption of changes.”

The president said that people, seeing such strange decisions or
verdicts, lose their confidence in judicial institutions.

He said that restoration of public confidence in the justice system
is one of the aims of these reforms.

Sargsyan said that imperfectness of laws is not the only problem in
judicial system.

The head of state also singled out faults in relations between law
enforcement agencies.

He said that despite some achievement, law enforcement institutions
have plenty to do to put things right.

Armenian Prosecutor General Aghvan Hovsepyan, Justice Minister
Hrayr Tovmasyan, Chairman of the Court of Cassation Arman Mkrtumyan,
National Security Chief Gorik Hakobyan, Police Chief Alik Sargsyan
and other officials attended Wednesday’s session.

ARMENIAN PRESIDENT URGES LAW ENFORCEMENT AGENCIES TO INTENSIFY EFFORTS IN INVESTIGATING MARCH 1 EVENTS

/ARKA/
April 21, 2011
YEREVAN

Armenian President Serzh Sargsyan has urged law enforcement
institutions to intensify efforts in investigating the March 1,
2008 events, the president’s press office reported on Wednesday.

After the 2008 presidential election, Armenian opposition headed by
the first president Levon Ter-Petrosyan, who lost the then race for
presidency, staged protests saying the election had been fraudulent
and the results had been rigged. The rallies ended in clashes between
protesters and law enforcements.

As a result, ten were killed and 200 injured. Many were arrested.

“I’ve repeatedly said and reiterate now that expectations were
great,” Sargsyan said Wednesday at his meeting with law enforcement
and judicial officials. “I mean the Match 1 events. I expect a new
impetus and intensification in investigation.”

The president stressed that he new about all objective problems,
which hobbled investigation.

“Perhaps, nobody is informed about these problems better than I,”
the president said. “But I should stress again that the matter is
very important to our state and our nation,” he said adding that the
case must be cleared also to leave no room to some people for reaping
fruit from this situation.

The head of state demanded the meeting participants to consider all
the circumstances in details again. He doesn’t rule out that new
details can be found.
