Turkish Media Misrepresent Charles Aznavour’s Words

TURKISH MEDIA MISREPRESENT CHARLES AZNAVOUR’S WORDS

Panorama, Armenia
Sept 8 2011

Turkish media is in panicked to spread Charles Aznavour’s footage
faking and misrepresenting his words. According to Turkish media
outlets Aznavour said in “France 2” TV show “the word genocide alarms
me. Another term should be used in Armenian-Turkish talks.”

Turkish media cheats its audience cutting Charles Aznavour’s words and
using the parts in favor to them. Determined fake and mispresentation
isn’t a new thing for the Turkish media, which, regretfully, sometimes
serves to the Armenian media.

According to French mass media, Charles Aznavour has made a very
important statement which has been cut by the Turkish media.

According to news site of France 2 Aznavour has particularly said:
“If the Turks are so honest to assume that they are alarmed by that
particular term, we’ll find another term to use in Armenian-Turkish
dialogue and to open the border.”

Military Aggression Condemned By International Law – Armenian MFA

MILITARY AGGRESSION CONDEMNED BY INTERNATIONAL LAW – ARMENIAN MFA

Armenia

YEREVAN.- Definition of military aggression has not lost its meaning
in the international arena, even if the object of military aggression
is unrecognized state, said Armenian Deputy Foreign Ministry Shavarsh
Kocharyan.

He noted that the major international documents do not create a
conflict between the right to self-determination and territorial
integrity. For instance, Article 2 of the UN Charter indicates that
the UN member states should not use force or threat of force against
the territorial integrity or political independence of any state or any
other purpose inconsistent with UN goals, the Deputy Minister stressed.

“However, the right of peoples to self-determination is in compliance
with the UN goals,” he said.

Other documents of international law indicate the priority of the
UN Charter in case of possible contradictions, Kocharyan recalled
speaking at a conference titled “New approaches to Karabakh issue”.

Kocharyan said the Helsinki Final Act of 1975 also makes reference
to this. The Act indicates that the right to determine internal
and external political status at any time and in any form is an
integral right of any nation. The Declaration on the Inadmissibility
of Intervention and Interference in the Internal Affairs of States
says that promotion of the right to self-determination is a right
and the obligation of states.

“Thus, Armenia had the right to promote self-determination of
Nagorno-Karabakh’s people. It can be considered an obligation for
other states as well,” Kocharyan stressed.

Finally, the UN resolution defines aggression as use of armed
force against the sovereignty, territorial integrity or political
independence of another state.

“However, I want to draw your attention to the fact that the definition
of the state in this case is not predetermined by the membership
in UN. Consequently, internationally unrecognized states also can
become members. Thus, our position in terms of international law is
impenetrable. As regards our opponent, they are simply distorting
internationally accepted thesis,” the official concluded.

Tell us what you think: Rate and review this albumTigran Hamasyan is
a 25-year-old Armenian-born pianist brought up in LA. He has already
won some big jazz-piano prizes, and the fact he looks like a young Bob
Dylan probably won’t do his prospects any harm, either. Listening to
his account of Someday My Prince Will Come on this mostly solo set
– a mix of Chick Corea’s gliding touch and his own darker melodic
atmosphere – it isn’t hard to tell why Hamasyan floored the judges.

That’s the only jazz standard on this set, however, the rest being
folk originals or pieces influenced by his Armenian childhood. Fans
of Avishai Cohen will warm to this newcomer’s song-rooted melodic
sense: he likes embroidering gentle folk melodies with dazzling
instrumental variations and lilting singing. The songs unfold over
rolling ostinato patterns or climax in chord clamours, and some
are wistful and mystical. A few are ecstatic dances, such as the
galloping Carnaval, and the vivacious Kakavik (The Little Partridge)
with its tireless left-hand propulsion. Hamasyan can be jazzier and
more improv-oriented than on this autobiographical journey, and A
Fable may veer toward the fey for some. But stories from this year’s
Montreux festival of his performance augur very well for his future.

TURKEY’S AND RUSSIA’S VIEWS ON KARABAKH CONFLICT COINCIDE: GUL

In the process of establishing peace in the South Caucasus and in the
region, as well as establishing cooperation and prosperity beyond its
borders, the normalization of Armenia-Azerbaijan and Armenia-Turkey
relations should not be viewed as a separate process, since it requires
consideration on a region-wide level, said Turkish President Abdullah
Gul in an interview with Moskovsky Komsomolets newspaper and MK-Turkey
news agency.

In his words, the Nagorno Karabakh conflict is the main obstacle in
creating a favorable climate for peace, security and cooperation in
the South Caucasus.

“I believe that Turkey’s opinion on this issue coincides with Russia’s
view. The progress that might be achieved on the path to the Karabakh
conflict settlement from this perspective will be crucial,” Gul said.

The Turkish leader then expressed his country’s readiness to fully
support the search for a solution to the conflict, “a process that
personally involves Russian President Dmitry Medvedev, and also to
do everything possible for further resolution of the conflict.

“The progress attained on this path will undoubtedly have a positive
impact on Turkish-Armenian relations.This is Turkey’s position
on normalization of ties with Armenia. We sincerely hope for the
successful completion of the normalization process,” he said.
