ARMENIAN TRANSPORT MINISTER MEETS DIRECTOR GENERAL OF SOUTH CAUCASUS RAILWAY

Arminfo. Armenian Transport and Communication Minister Manuk Vardanyan
held a working meeting with Director General of CJSC "South Caucasus
Railway" Shevket Shaydullin, press-service of the Ministry reported.

Over the meeting they discussed several problems of Armenian railways
development, in particular, the course of the concession obligations
fulfillment by SCRW, the investment programme of the company, raising
of the quality of transport services as well as the legislative
settlement connected with the railway regulations.

Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan held a trilateral meeting
with French President Nicolas Sarkozy and German Chancellor Angela
Merkel in Washington on the sidelines of Global Nuclear Security
Summit.

Turkish PM had a 1-hour meeting with the Chairman of the U.S Senate
Foreign Relations Committee John Kerry at The Willard InterContinental
Hotel. After the meeting Kerry told the journalists that Armenia-Turkey
relations were not on the agenda. The officials touched upon Turkey’s
significant role in Afghanistan, as well as developments related to
Israel, Palestine and Syria.

Thereafter, before attending the summit, Erdogan was welcomed by U.S.

President Barack Obama at Convention Center Hotel in Washington.

Turkish Premier also held short meetings with Presidents of South
Korea, Kazakhstan, Brazil, as well as Prime Ministers of Norway,
Italy, Argentina and Pakistan.

Erdogan-Obama meeting is scheduled on April 13.

Spain supports Turkey’s accession to the EU, said at today’s press
conference in Yerevan Spain’s Minister of Foreign Affairs and
Cooperation Miguel Angel Moratinos.

"If Turkey meets the Copenhagen political criteria, then it will join
the European Union," he said.

According to Miguel Angel Moratinos, Turkey’s accession to the EU
is beneficial for whole region. However, Turkey should normalise
relations with all neighbors, he added.

"Chairing the EU-Turkey ministerial dialogue, we hope will succeed
to open a new page," Spain’s Foreign Minister said.

SKA-Energia beat Khimki FC 1:2. Goal keeper of Armenian team Roman
Berezovsky and Arsen Hovhannesyan of Armenia played in a team.

Khimki will play the final match against Rostov on March 2.

create favorable conditions for Armenian Genocide recognition,
" Robert Getikyan film director, author of "The Criminal Army"
said. Robert Getikian advised to memorize a poem of Louis Aragon
about national hero of France Misak Manushian.

Misak Manushian – French anti-fascist of Armenian origin once wrote
"I don’t hate the German people. For me it is a very important aspect,
because my mother is a German".

Born in the city of Adiyaman (Turkey), September 1, 1906 Misak
Manushian witnessed the Armenian Genocide. Then Misak was an orphan
in Syria. In 1925 he emigrated to France and lived in Marseilles and
Paris, worked at the Citroen factory. With Armenian compatriots he
published a magazine advocating left ideas and Armenian culture among
emigrants. Together with his wife Meline Manushian he participated
in French Resistance against the invaders, he was an activist of the
Immigrant Labor’s Armenian section. In August 1943 a group under
Manushian command made almost thirty successful attacks against
the German occupiers. The notorious Nazi "Red Poster", published in
15,000 copies, portrayed Manushian: "Manushian, an Armenian, a leader
of the gang, 56 attacks, 150 killed, 600 wounded".

He was arrested by the German command, tortured and executed after 3
months, along with 21 members of his group ("Group of Manushian"). He
was posthumously awarded the Order of the Legion of Honor. Streets,
squares in Paris, Valence, Marseilles, Gardanne, Yerevan and other
places were named after Manushian.

On November 19 President of the National Assembly Mr. Hovik Abrahamyan
received the Director of the Office for Democratic Institutions and
Human Rights of the Organisation for Security and Co-operation in
Europe (OSCE/ODIHR) Ambassador Janez Lenarcic.

Welcoming the guest RA NA President expressed his conviction that the
cooperation with OSCE/ODIHR promotes the strengthening of democratic
institutions and protection of human rights in Armenia. Mr. Abrahamyan
underlined that the wish of the authorties of the country was to see
the Republic of Armenia in the family of the progressive European
democratic countries and the necessary political will existed in order
to reach that goal. In that context RA NA President presented to Mr.

Lenarcic the developments following the elections of 2008 and the
undertaken actions in overcoming the consequences of the March 1-2
tragic events.

Expressing his gratitude for warm reception, the OSCE/ODIHR noted that
the goal of his visit was to strengthen the atmosphere of mutual trust
in the relations with the authorities of the Republic of Armenia. In
that connection Mr. Lenarcic underscored that the organization led by
him did not pursue the goal of giving lessons or imposing anything,
but it simply proposed its specialized assistance.

During the meeting the sides also touched upon the issue of
normalization of the Armenian-Turkish relations, as well as the
process of peaceful regulation of Artsakh problem.

Heritage Party Founder Raffi Hovannisian, who had submitted an
application, later withdrawn, to resign from his mandates, came to
the National Assembly of the Republic of Armenia to participate in
the National Assembly’s regular four-day session. In his presence,
Parliamentary Speaker Hovik Abrahamyan announced that Raffi Hovannisian
had withdrawn his application to resign from his mandates.

Today, along with Raffi Hovannisian, two new MPs appeared at the
National Assembly. Ruben Gevorgyan was registered as a member
of parliament at the Central Electoral Commission and came to the
legislative body today instead of Rubik Harutyunyan from the Prosperous
Armenia Party. As already reported by Tert.am, Rubik Harutyunyan was
appointed Deputy Minister of Emergency Situations by decree of the
Armenian prime minister.

Hovhannes Sahakyan was registered as a member of parliament at the
Central Electoral Commission instead of Myasnik Malkhasyan from
the Republican Party of Armenia. Sahakyan also came to the National
Assembly today.

The National Assembly Speaker announced the old and new members of
parliament, and the other MPs welcomed their colleagues into the
National Assembly with applause.

YEREVAN, SEPTEMBER 10, NOYAN TAPAN. The PACE Monitoring Committee
at the September 9 sitting in Paris did not have time to discuss the
issue of fulfillment of PACE Resolution N 1677 by Armenia.

According to head of PACE Armenian delegation David Haroutiunian, the
reason was that there were very many issues on sitting’s agenda. The
issue will be discussed at the Monitoring Committee next sitting,
during the PACE last session to be convened in late September.

Foreign Minister of Armenia Edward Nalbandyan had a telephone
conversation with Foreign Minister of Greece, the OSCE Chair-in-Office
Dora Bakoyannis, Armenian MFA PR department reports.

According to the source the Armenian and Greek FM-s have discussed
the recent developments in Southern Caucasus region. Mrs. Bakoyannis
expressed support to the efforts contributing to the regional peace
and stability.

to take part in the international tournament to be held in Khasavyurt
city under the aegis of Russian Prime Minister Vladimir Putin on May
7 and 8.

The Armenian team includes 7 sportsmen led by coach Karen Simonyan.
