Prime Minister of India Narendra Modi has congratulated Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan on the “impressive” victory of his Civil Contract party in the parliamentary elections, expressing readiness to deepen the historic ties of friendship and cooperation between the two countries.

“Congratulations to Mr. Nikol Pashinyan on the impressive victory of the Civil Contract Party in the parliamentary elections. The renewed mandate reflects the enduring trust and confidence of the people of Armenia in your leadership and vision. I look forward to working closely with you to further deepen the warm and historic ties of friendship and cooperation between India and Armenia,” Modi said in a post on X.

Civil Contract received 49.8% of the vote in Sunday’s parliamentary election, ensuring it will retain a majority in the next parliament.

“I should like to see any power of the world destroy this race, this small tribe of unimportant people, whose wars have all been fought and lost, whose structures have crumbled, literature is unread, music is unheard, and prayers are no more answered. Go ahead, destroy Armenia . See if you can do it. Send them into the desert without bread or water. Burn their homes and churches. Then see if they will not laugh, sing and pray again. For when two of them meet anywhere in the world, see if they will not create a New Armenia.” - WS
