Armenia’s Anti-Corruption Committee announced on Monday that it had uncovered another alleged election-related crime involving members and supporters of the Strong Armenia party.

According to the law enforcement agency, individuals engaged in business activities in Russia are accused of exploiting the financial dependence of Armenian citizens working abroad, arranging for them to travel back to Armenia, and coercing them into voting for their party in the June 7 elections.

The authorities also released audio recordings purportedly obtained during the investigation, which appear to show individuals discussing the scheme.

“The Anti-Corruption Committee of the Republic of Armenia urges all citizens, including compatriots living abroad, to strictly comply with electoral legislation, refrain from any illegal influence on voters’ will, and avoid actions that could disrupt the normal course of the electoral process. The Committee assures that it will carry out a comprehensive and strict review of all information and will take all legally prescribed measures to ensure the full uncovering of criminal acts, regardless of where they were committed or who was involved,” the law enforcement agency said in a press release.

“I should like to see any power of the world destroy this race, this small tribe of unimportant people, whose wars have all been fought and lost, whose structures have crumbled, literature is unread, music is unheard, and prayers are no more answered. Go ahead, destroy Armenia . See if you can do it. Send them into the desert without bread or water. Burn their homes and churches. Then see if they will not laugh, sing and pray again. For when two of them meet anywhere in the world, see if they will not create a New Armenia.” - WS
