Aliyev signed a “historic” law regarding Nakhichevan

Azeri president Ilham Aliyev signed a “historic” law regarding Nakhichevan, Azerbaijani media reports.

According to reports, it is about the law “On Approving Amendments to the Constitution of the Autonomous Republic of Nakhichevan”.

Before the implementation of these changes, it was stated in the preamble of the “constitution” of Nakhichevan that “the foundations of the region’s autonomy were laid by international treaties: the Treaty of Moscow of March 16, 1921 and the Treaty of Kars of October 13, 1921.”

Those agreements confirmed that Nakhichevan is a part of Azerbaijan, and its territorial borders were specified.

In the new edition, it is emphasized that Nakhichevan is an “inseparable part” of Azerbaijan.

Thus, “references to international agreements” are removed from the “constitution” of Nakhichevan.

“I should like to see any power of the world destroy this race, this small tribe of unimportant people, whose wars have all been fought and lost, whose structures have crumbled, literature is unread, music is unheard, and prayers are no more answered. Go ahead, destroy Armenia . See if you can do it. Send them into the desert without bread or water. Burn their homes and churches. Then see if they will not laugh, sing and pray again. For when two of them meet anywhere in the world, see if they will not create a New Armenia.” - WS
