“They say that Serzh Sargsyan will come back from the meeting with
Aliyev with mourning news of war. Do you have such expectations?, to
the Aravot.am, today, the Republican Party faction MP, Khosrov
Harutyunyan responded, “No, I do not think so. No matter how hard
Aliyev tries to swagger, the war is not profitable to anyone, both the
people in the region, including Azerbaijan, personally to Aliyev, and
the major players, in general. If we consider the tense situation
created in Syria, on the one hand, Ukraine, where the situation is
seems to be explosive, and if we add another tense situation on the
Iranian border, it is not possible. It’s that at least the President
of Armenia has answered very clearly and unambiguous that we are not
afraid of war, but we do not want to resolve the problem by war. We
realize all the consequences of conflict settlement by military
actions. Armenia in no case will initiate such steps. I am deeply
convinced that such position by the President of Armenia is greatly
perceived by the international community and major players. Secondly,
this is the regional leader’s behavior with perspective. The President
of Armenia will spare all his efforts, will add to the efforts by the
international community, the efforts by the President of Russia to
make, however, the border tension significantly mitigated and
weakened. To what extent he will be successful, it’s hard to say.”
According to Mr. Harutyunyan, Russia taking on the initiative to
organize such a meeting of presidents, will promote that the
international community would recognize Russia’s strategic interest in
the region. Caucasus is an important region for Russia, therefore, it
is supposed that Russia should be able to ease the tension in that
region. I think that this meeting is very important for the President
of Russia. And if we add its international prestige-related problems
because of the Ukrainian problem, I think that the outcomes of this
meeting are very significant not only for Armenia, Karabakh and
Azerbaijan, but above all, perhaps, mostly for RF.”
