FRENCH ARMENIANS REMIND PRESIDENT OF HIS PROMISE

On Sunday, in Trocadero Square, the Armenian community in France
held a protest at French President Francois Hollande’s official visit
to Turkey.
Ara Taronyan, Coordinator of the French-Armenian organizations,
told Tert.am that France agrees to the resumption of negotiations
over Turkey’s admission to the European Union.
“We took advantage of the occasion to remind Mr Hollande of his
own words. He had promised Armenians to respect his own words,”
Taronyan said.
During his election campaign, Francois Hollande promised to do his best
for the adoption of a law criminalizing the denial of the Armenian
Genocide. As a result, the Armenian community was divided between
the socialist candidate Francois Hollande and the then president
Nicolas Sarkozy.
On Saturday, the Armenian community held protests in Lyons and
Marseilles.
