ARMENIAN GOVERNMENT AND GLOBAL MEDICAL SOLUTIONS SIGN AGREEMENT TO LAUNCH INVESTMENT PROGRAM TO BUILD ARMENIAN CANCER CENTER
YEREVAN, July 18. / ARKA /. The Armenian government and Global Medical
Solutions signed on Thursday an agreement to launch an investment
program designed to build the Armenian Cancer Center.
During a press conference the executive director of National
Competitiveness Foundation of Armenia, Arman Khachaturyan, said the
construction of ultra-modern oncology center will take 18-24 months.
This ~@35million worth project is implemented through the
public-private partnership principle.
The center will comprise three cutting-edge units: a laboratory
hosting a cyclotron for the synthesis of radioisotopes, a diagnostic
center with a non-prototype modern PET scanner to detect tumors in an
embryonic state and, finally, a clinic to provide the isotope-based
treatment of diseases.
Enabling the early detection of tumors, the center will help reduce the
number of fatalities and promote the development of nuclear medicine
in Armenia. Patients will have the possibility of choosing specific
method of treatment.
As a nationwide center for treatment and prevention of cancer with
the use of modern technologies, it will provide services for nuclear
diagnostics, radiation medicine, chemical therapy, in-patient and
outpatient surgery.
According to statistics, about 2,700 Armenian citizens get various
disabilities caused by malignant tumors leading to 75 million dram
economic loss annually. This figure may double from year to year,
should the disease keep growing at its current pace. While we only
had some 125 incidences in 1995 and 185 in 2000, now this figure
stands at about 235 cases a year. . –0—
