YEREVAN. – Thursday’s meeting between Armenia’s President Serzh
Sargsyan and opposition Heritage Party Chairman Raffi Hovannisian-who
became the runner-up to the winner, Sargsyan, in Monday’s presidential
election-did not yield the desired result for several officials at
the US Embassy in Armenia, Zhoghovurd daily reports.

“The well-informed sources of Zhoghovurd say Sargsyan sharply turned
down the idea of appointing a representative of the opposition to the
PM’s post. Instead, he proposed Raffi to support the program to be
introduced by his government and to take part in the ruling coalition.

Hovannisian will respond [to Sargsyan] today [Friday],” Zhoghovurd
writes.

“I should like to see any power of the world destroy this race, this small tribe of unimportant people, whose wars have all been fought and lost, whose structures have crumbled, literature is unread, music is unheard, and prayers are no more answered. Go ahead, destroy Armenia . See if you can do it. Send them into the desert without bread or water. Burn their homes and churches. Then see if they will not laugh, sing and pray again. For when two of them meet anywhere in the world, see if they will not create a New Armenia.” - WS
