Vice-speaker: Azerbaijan to respond to Armenia’s attempts to raise
officer Safarov’s issue

Azerbaijan, Baku, Sept. 27 / Trend E. Mehdiyev /

Armenia’s current actions toward the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict can
come to a discussion of the elements of the problem, rather than its
essence, Deputy Speaker of the Azerbaijani Parliament Bahar Muradova
told journalists on Thursday.

Muradova is heading the Azerbaijani delegation to the OSCE
Parliamentary Assembly.
She said that if the Armenians raise the issue of Azerbaijani officer
Ramil Safarov’s extradition and pardon, they will receive a full and
reasoned response.

The deputy speaker said that the excitement raised in Armenia over the
issue is understandable.

“They are fully aware of their miserable state and Safarov’s pardon
was a slap in the face for them,” she said. “They raise this issue at
various international events, and I am sure this will continue.”

She added that despite everything, the Armenian lies cannot hide the
facts of their aggression and occupation of Azerbaijani lands.

The conflict between the two South Caucasus countries began in 1988
when Armenia made territorial claims against Azerbaijan. Armenian
armed forces have occupied 20 per cent of Azerbaijan since 1992,
including the Nagorno-Karabakh region and seven surrounding districts.

Azerbaijan and Armenia signed a ceasefire agreement in 1994. The
co-chairs of the OSCE Minsk Group – Russia, France and the U.S. – are
currently holding peace negotiations.
Armenia has not yet implemented the U.N. Security Council’s four
resolutions on the liberation of the Nagorno-Karabakh and the
surrounding regions.

“I should like to see any power of the world destroy this race, this small tribe of unimportant people, whose wars have all been fought and lost, whose structures have crumbled, literature is unread, music is unheard, and prayers are no more answered. Go ahead, destroy Armenia . See if you can do it. Send them into the desert without bread or water. Burn their homes and churches. Then see if they will not laugh, sing and pray again. For when two of them meet anywhere in the world, see if they will not create a New Armenia.” - WS
