countries round Iran.
Azerbaijan meets this principle. It is a Muslim country, we receive
30% of oil profits. Moreover, they are succeeding in advocating their
interests in Israel, which Armenia is, unfortunately, failing to do,
Alexander Zinker, Director of the Institute of Eastern European and
CIS countries in Israel, said in an interview with Armenia’s Public TV.
“I think that the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict is similar to the
Israeli-Palestinian one. I participated in relevant discussions in
Armenia. I have not yet been to Artsakh despite the fact that Pargev
Martirosyan, head of the Artsakh diocese of the Armenian Apostolic
Church, invited me,” Zinker said.
According to him, “Artsakh has status quo – no matter recognized
or not.” However, the expert is concerned over Azerbaijan’s
sabre-rattling.
“It is not clear why they think the conflict can only be resolved in a
military way. No one can gain victory in this conflict. A compromise
is needed. I hoped that, if such major actors as the United States,
France and Russia tried to take the same view of the problem, they
would possibly try to propose a common thesis and reach an agreement
in a political and diplomatic way. One more problem is that Artsakh
is not a negotiator. I am sorry, but I do not think the problem will
be resolved soon. Elections are soon to take place in the countries
and they will be dealing with their domestic problems,” Zinker said.
