British Ambassador to Armenia Charles Lonsdale has summed up his
4-year diplomatic mission in Armenia.

The last four years have been a difficult period not only for Armenia,
but also for other countries. Armenia has had ups and downs as well.

With respect to Armenian-Turkish relations, Ambassador Lonsdale
noted considerable progress in the negotiations and results will be
appreciable soon.

Mr. Charles Lonsdale also noted that the Nagorno-Karabakh peace
process is progressing much slower.

The March 1 2008 events affected Armenia’s international reputation.

Then tragic events also had a serious impact on political life.

Ambassador Lonsdale hopes that fair and transparent elections
will really be held in Armenia, which will make the world to take
a different view of the country. Numerous investment programs,
particularly ones by the Council of Europe, will be launched. So
transparent elections are if paramount importance, Ambassador
Lonsdale said.

“I should like to see any power of the world destroy this race, this small tribe of unimportant people, whose wars have all been fought and lost, whose structures have crumbled, literature is unread, music is unheard, and prayers are no more answered. Go ahead, destroy Armenia . See if you can do it. Send them into the desert without bread or water. Burn their homes and churches. Then see if they will not laugh, sing and pray again. For when two of them meet anywhere in the world, see if they will not create a New Armenia.” - WS
