Newspaper: President of Armenia discusses issue of defense minister’s
resignation

The issue of resignation of Defense Minister Seyran Ohanyan and
Minister of Territorial Administration, Vice Premier Armen Gevorgyan
was discussed at the Administration of the Armenian President Serzh
Sargsyan overnight, the Yerevan-based newspaper Zhoghovurd (People)
writes. Nevertheless, the paper writes, it is difficult to predict
anything so far.
According to some mass media rumors, alongside with staff reshuffles,
the country’s leadership plans to restrict Armen Gevorgyan’s powers
shortly living him the position of the vice premier only. The
country’s leadership needs an “insider” on the position of the
Minister of Territorial Administration in order to establish effective
control over the heads of the local self-government on the hreshold of
the parliamentary elections.
