Russian Interior Minister Rashid Nurgaliyev has been replaced by his
Armenian counterpart Alik Sargsyan as chair of the CIS Council of
Interior Ministers in Yerevan today, RIA Novosti reports.

The Armenian police chief expressed hope that the organization will
start a new stage of development.

Nurgaliyev noted that they have a well-operating system of information
exchange and need to continue efforts to fight crime. He added that
the council prepared an Honorary Certificate and Symbol for members of
the CIS. The Russian minister believes that it may be used to honour
police officers as part of marking the 20th anniversary.

The council will hold talks on transnational crime, illegal trafficking
of arms, drugs and people and searches for criminals.

Sessions are held annually. Special attention is paid to cyber crime.

Armenian President Serzh Sargsyan attended the Council of Interior
Ministers.

“I should like to see any power of the world destroy this race, this small tribe of unimportant people, whose wars have all been fought and lost, whose structures have crumbled, literature is unread, music is unheard, and prayers are no more answered. Go ahead, destroy Armenia . See if you can do it. Send them into the desert without bread or water. Burn their homes and churches. Then see if they will not laugh, sing and pray again. For when two of them meet anywhere in the world, see if they will not create a New Armenia.” - WS
