ARMENIAN PROCESSING COMPANIES PLAN TO PROCURE ABOUT 155,000 TONS OF GRAPE THIS YEAR

YEREVAN, June 10. / ARKA /. A deputy Armenian minister of agriculture
said today local wineries and canneries plan to procure about 155,00
tons of grape this year.
Speaking at a news conference, Robert Markarian said judging by data
of the processing companies, they plan to purchase up to 155,000
metric tons of grapes. The planned figure represents a rise from
135,000 tons procured by them in 2010 at an average price of 124.4
drams per one kg. Overall, last year wineries and canneries bought
16.8 billion drams worth grape.
Talking about the price of grapes this year, Markarian said this issue
will become clear after the signing of contracts between companies
and farmers. Reporting on plans for 2011, Markarian said the ministry
was developing a plan to provide farmers with low-interest loans. He
also said the canneries plan to purchase 66,300 vegetables, including
55,800 tons of tomatoes, as well as more than 21 tons of fruits.
In 2010 they had purchased about 29,700 tons of vegetables, of which
24,300 tons were tomatoes, and 3,600 tons of fruits, paying a total
of 2.1 billion drams. ($ 1 – 376.63 AMD).
