ECONOMIC ACTIVITY IN ARMENIA RISES 7.7% IN APRIL 2011

Economic activity in Armenia rose 7.7% in April 2011, compared with the
same month a year earlier, and 4%, compared with the previous month,
National Statistical Service of Armenia reported on Tuesday.
In April 2011, the country’s construction grew 16.9%, compared with
the same month a year before, but contracted by 4.2%, compared with
March 2011, to AMD 23.3 billion.
Industrial output grew 11% in April 2011, compared with April 2010,
but shrank 1.5%, compared with March 2011, to AMD 75 billion.
According to the statistical report, agriculture sector accounted for
0.6% year-on-year growth and 42% month-on-month growth in April 2011
(AMD 35.5 billion).
Foreign trade turnover grew 17.7% in April 2011, compared with April
2010, and 2.9%, compared with March 2011, to AMD 167.9 million or
$449.4 million.
Services sector reported 9.3% year-on-year growth and 4.5%
month-on-month growth in April 2011 (AMD 68.2 billion).
In the 2011 government budget, GDP growth is projected at 4.6%. ($1=
