TURKEY’S AMBASSADOR TO RETURN TO SWEDEN
Taiwan News
March 25 2010
Turkey’s foreign minister says its ambassador to Sweden will return
to Stockholm by the start of the week.
Turkey recalled ambassador Zergun Koruturk earlier this month after
Sweden’s parliament narrowly approved a resolution recognizing the
World War-I killings of Armenians as genocide.
Ahmet Davutoglu told CNN-Turk in an interview broadcast late Wednesday
that Turkey was "satisfied" by Swedish government statements opposing
the parliament’s move.
Turkey also recalled its ambassador to Washington after U.S.
congressional committee approved a similar resolution.
Historians estimate that up to 1.5 million Armenians were killed by
Ottoman Turks. Turkey denies that the deaths constituted genocide,
saying those killed were victims of civil war and unrest.
