NEWLY APPOINTED U.S. AMBASSADOR HANDS OVER COPY OF HER CREDENTIALS TO RA FOREIGN MINISTER

YEREVAN, SEPTEMBER 19, NOYAN TAPAN. The newly appointed U.S. Ambassador
to the RA Marie Yovanovich handed over the copy of her credentials to
RA Foreign Minister Edward Nalbandian. The Minister, congratulating
the Ambassador on the occasion of being appointed in that position,
wished her success in carrying out her diplomatic mission.

According to a report given to Noyan Tapan by the RA FM Press and
Information Department, during the meeting the interlocutors discussed
the prospects of the development of bilateral relations. E. Nalbandian
underlined that Armenia attaches importance to the deepening of
relations with the U.S. in various spheres and will pursue the
strengthening of friendly partnership and cooperation between the
two countries.

E. Nalbandian and M. Yovanovich have touched upon the latest
developments of the negotiations of the settlement of Nagorno Karabakh
problem. The Foreign Minister mentioned that the Minsk Group is a
working format of Nagorno Karabakh settlement process, which has
proved its vital activity and enjoys the support of international
community. He underlined that the negotiations based on the Minsk
Group format and Madrid suggestions can bring to the denouement of
the problem.

Referring to the latest events in the region, the Minister mentioned
that Armenia has always been for and continues to be convinced that
a military way of solving conflicts has no prospects.

Presenting the possibilities of the settlement of Armenian-Turkish
relations at M. Yovanovich’s request, E. Nalbandian reaffirmed
Armania’s readiness to establish diplomatic relations without
preconditions and to open Armenian-Turkish border.
