Yerevan, 15 April: Deputy Defence Minister Yuriy Khachaturov today
was appointed chief of the Armenian General Staff and first deputy
defence minister under a decree of President Serzh Sargsyan.

Under another decree of the Armenian president, Yuriy Khachaturov
was awarded the military rank of colonel-general, the presidential
press service reported.

The new chief of the Armenian General Staff is 56, he is a career
serviceman, he has been serving in the Armenian army since 1992 and
participated in the Karabakh war. Yuriy Khachaturov was a deputy
Armenian defence minister since 2000.
