ALIYEV VISITS AZERI ARMY STRONGHOLDS AT CONTACT LINE WITH …

Azeri President Ilham Aliyev visited Azeri army strongholds at the
contact line between the Azeri and Armenian armed forces during his
trip to the western part of the country.

Speaking with public activists in Agcabedi, Aliyev said, "Before
meeting with you, I visited the fighting positions, looked at the
enemy’s positions and talked with the soldiers."

Azerbaijan’s main problem these days is Armenia’s occupation of
Nagorno-Karabakh and seven other districts of Azerbaijan, he said.

"We will resolve this problem, I believe in this. The international
community supports Azerbaijan’s territorial integrity. The UN
Security Council has adopted four resolutions, and although they are
not being implemented, they serve as a legal basis for the settlement
process," Aliyev said.

The Council of Europe and the Organization for Security and
Cooperation in Europe (OSCE) have adopted similar documents
acknowledging Armenia’s aggression, he said.

"Our goal was to develop a firm position based on international law,
and we have accomplished this," he said.

The fact that Armenia is not insisting on Nagorno-Karabakh’s
independence shows Azerbaijan’s strength, he said.

Aliyev at the same time pointed to the need to further strengthen the
Azeri armed forces.

“I should like to see any power of the world destroy this race, this small tribe of unimportant people, whose wars have all been fought and lost, whose structures have crumbled, literature is unread, music is unheard, and prayers are no more answered. Go ahead, destroy Armenia . See if you can do it. Send them into the desert without bread or water. Burn their homes and churches. Then see if they will not laugh, sing and pray again. For when two of them meet anywhere in the world, see if they will not create a New Armenia.” - WS
