The Armenian National Committee has appealed to the members of the UN Security Council and the governments of member states, urging them not to support Turkey’s nomination of Feridun Sinirlioğlu for the position of UN Secretary-General.
The Committee expressed concern over Sinirlioğlu’s previous activities, accusing him of denying the Armenian Genocide and promoting Turkey’s political interests. The statement also referenced a letter he signed in 2020 as Turkey’s permanent representative to the UN, in which, according to the Armenian National Committee, he denied the Armenian Genocide and refuted reports regarding the involvement of foreign mercenaries during the Artsakh war.
The Committee has also questioned Sinirlioğlu’s political independence and impartiality, asserting that his actions do not align with the expectations for the UN Secretary-General position. The Armenian National Committee has called on UN member countries to reject his nomination and demanded that Sinirlioğlu publicly clarify his past stance on the Armenian Genocide.
