Armenia has taken a step towards participating in the European Union’s Customs and Fiscalis programmes, which provide for cooperation between customs and tax authorities, exchanges of experience, specialist training and the development of digital systems.
At its meeting on 5 November, the government approved proposals to sign the relevant agreements.
According to the documents, Armenia’s participation is envisaged for a one-year period in 2027.
The Customs programme aims to improve customs administration, promote legitimate trade and combat illegal trading activities. It is also expected to make customs procedures more transparent and predictable and expand cooperation with European partners.
Fiscalis is a tax cooperation programme. It provides opportunities to develop tax administration, exchange experience and information, and strengthen efforts to combat tax fraud and tax evasion.
According to the explanatory note, Armenia’s annual contribution would be €39,991 for participation in Customs and €36,528 for Fiscalis.
The State Revenue Committee expects the cooperation to help modernise the tax and customs systems and deepen Armenia–EU economic ties.
The government’s decisions concern the approval of proposals to sign the agreements.
