Egyptian Foreign Minister Badr Abdelatty held separate talks with his Bahraini, Armenian and Yemeni counterparts on Saturday on the sidelines of the 22nd IISS Manama Dialogue, discussing bilateral relations and regional developments, particularly the Iranian crisis and maritime security.
Abdelatty is participating in the three-day regional security summit, held in the Bahraini capital from 30 October to 1 November and organized by the International Institute for Strategic Studies (IISS) in cooperation with Bahrain’s Foreign Ministry.
Talks with Bahrain
Abdelatty met Bahraini Foreign Minister Abdullatif bin Rashid Al Zayani on Saturday, with both sides reaffirming the depth of their longstanding ties and their commitment to strengthening cooperation and coordination across various fields.
According to Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Nader Zaki, the two ministers expressed their interest in convening the third session of the Egyptian-Bahraini Joint Governmental Committee to advance cooperation, particularly in the economic and trade sectors.
The meeting also addressed regional developments, particularly the Iranian crisis.
Abdelatty reiterated Egypt’s rejection of any threat to the security of Gulf states, describing their security as a fundamental pillar of Egyptian national security. He affirmed Egypt’s full solidarity with Bahrain and other Gulf countries in confronting any threats to their sovereignty and territorial integrity.
The Egyptian foreign minister stressed the need to halt the current escalation, avoid steps that could widen the confrontation, and create conditions for a return to political channels and negotiations. He also underscored the importance of maintaining freedom of navigation through international maritime routes.
Talks with Armenia
Abdelatty also met Armenian Foreign Minister Ararat Mirzoyan on the sidelines of the forum.
The talks focused on strengthening bilateral relations and expanding cooperation in various fields, with both ministers highlighting the historic ties between Egypt and Armenia and the importance of continued consultation.
Abdelatty welcomed the sixth session of the Egyptian-Armenian Joint Economic Committee, held in Cairo last December, and expressed hope that the next session would take place in Armenia.
He also proposed organizing a business forum alongside the meeting to promote contacts between the two countries’ business communities and explore opportunities to expand trade, industrial and tourism exchanges, as well as economic and investment partnerships.
The two ministers also exchanged views on regional and international developments, stressing the importance of peaceful conflict resolution, regional stability and closer coordination within multilateral organizations and international forums.
Talks with Yemen
In a separate meeting on the sidelines of the summit, Abdelatty met Yemeni Foreign Minister and Minister of Expatriates Affairs Afrah Abdulaziz Al-Zouba.
The meeting reaffirmed Egypt’s longstanding position in support of Yemen’s unity, sovereignty and territorial integrity.
Abdelatty reiterated Cairo’s support for efforts to restore security and stability in Yemen and for political and diplomatic initiatives aimed at resolving the crisis in a manner that meets the aspirations of the Yemeni people, reinforces de-escalation and preserves the country’s state institutions and national resources.
The two ministers also discussed developments in the Red Sea, stressing the need to safeguard maritime security and navigation through international waterways.
They called for intensified efforts to contain regional tensions and prevent the conflict from expanding, in support of security and stability across the region.
